Twin Lakes RV Park, Cumming, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a strange park. Half the park is in a wooded area on a hill, and those sites are well-spaced, shaded and very attractive. The other half is more like a WalMart parking lot with hookups. Unfortunately, we were in the latter. Our site was gravel, and if we opened our awning, it hung over the driveway that provided access to our site plus two others. The park seems to cater to a lot of semi-permanent or permanent residents, and there is a school bus that comes into the park to pick up kids. Staff was friendly. Propane and ice available and reasonably priced. We camped at Twin Lakes RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Manatee State Park, Bradenton, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Only a one night stay for us. The park is fairly small, and the main feature is bordering upon Lake Manatee. The park is well-kept and clean. Our site was easy to back into and fairly level, making set-up quite easy. Park staff quite friendly. We camped at Lake Manatee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Fall Creek Falls State Park, Spencer, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice state park. Excellent as a destination. Our site wasn't very level, and required some effort to get set up properly. Very difficult to get large rigs into some of the sites in the "D" loop...don't know about the other loops. Lots of trees, but tight turns. Had a neighboring pull-thru site that was so close that the rear of the neighboring fifth wheel was literally only six feet from the rear of our travel trailer. 30 Amp service showed reverse polarity. We camped at Fall Creek Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Wonderful state park. Incredible scenery and waterfalls. Lots of hiking trails, but the trail maps are horrible. Excellent general store.

Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park, Saint George Island, Florida

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park, excellent beach. Campsite easily accommodated our camper and tow vehicle, plus our flats boat and tow vehicle. Sand/gravel, fairly level, but with enough slope to rear for drainage (had rain every day). Enough foliage between sites to be private. Use bug spray...lots of mosquitos. Campground hosts have firewood and ice available. We camped at Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Silver Springs State Park (formerly Silver River State Park), Ocala, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in site #31. Large site, gravel surface and more than enough room to be comfortable. Partial shade, and limited foliage to separate the site from other sites, but the nearest neighboring site had to have been at least 100 feet away. Back-in site with full service, and had enough driveway room to park our tow vehicle in front of the camper. Also had room for two more vehicles along side our tow vehicle. Had an active gopher tortoise about 30 feet from the site. We camped at Silver Springs State Park (formerly Silver River State Park) in a Travel Trailer.

Make sure you take one of the glass bottom boat tours. The Cuban Wrap from the Spring Side Cafe was delicious!

James Island County Park, Charleston, South Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Great destination campground. Lots of trails and activities within the park. Positives: Clean, friendly staff, shaded sites. Negatives: some of the sites are "double sites", basically one driveway servicing two sites. It was great for us, as we paired up with my brother. But if you go it alone and get paired up with a stranger, there's no separation between the two sites. We camped at James Island County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Easy drive into Charleston, or out to Folly Beach. If heading out to the beach, traffic can get intense. Don't miss spending time at some of the area plantations, and take advantage of some excellent low-country restaurants in the area.
