Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground, Yuma, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is about 30 minutes from our home. We decided to just go up there for an overnight stay for a little getaway. We were looking for something close by and with full hookups and easy to get in and out of it. This campground fulfilled all of that. The campsites are nothing special, just concrete and gravel with no trees. This is not the sort of place you settle into for a week or two to enjoy nature. But the groundskeeping is immaculate and what is lacking in actual campsite ambience is available in the community areas of the park. You can carry your cup of coffee to one of two pavillions overlooking a lovely little pond and enjoy the antics of the resident geese. You can cool off in the clean, clear swimming pool. You can walk all the way around the lake as the grass is well mowed. Throughout the park you'll find pots of flowers and other landscaping features. The proximity of the park to the I-40 makes it a great place to stop for a night or two on your travels, but call ahead for reservations because they stay pretty well booked up. You'll find most of the sites easy to pull in and out of and even keep your towed vehicle hooked up if you wish. We camped at Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Buchanan Resort, Springville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed from Wednesday May 24 until Monday May 29. We were in a self contained class A motorhome with a towed behind Jeep. We traveled wth our two dogs. I cannot say anything negative about any of the staff or about the cleanliness of the facilities. The rv area is all gravel. There is no grassy areas around the rv sites at all. The sites are very close together, so close together that sitting out in your own campsite feels like you are sitting in your neighbor's campsite. There are no fire rings. If you like a little space, a little natural beauty, and the option of a campfire, this is probably not going to be your kind of place. The wifi was fantastic until the camp filled up, then it was nearly non-existent. That is to be expected of course. We were there on a holiday weekend so it makes sense that the wifi would be sporadic. From what we saw before the big crowds arrived, they seem to have a pretty good wifi signal. We had some problems with the cable hookup and the staff worked diligently to solve the problems. We could not have been happier with how hard the staff worked to take care of the needs (and wants) of their guests. The facilities are clean and well maintained. There is a restaurant, a store carrying gear for boaters and watersports, a small hotel, cabins, a playground, a large picnic pavillion, and a beautiful saltwater swimming pool. The campground is connected to a well maintained marina with boats for rent and facilities for privately owned boats as well. They also rent out kayaks. We camped at Buchanan Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The resort is close to everything good about Kentucky Lake. It's a very short drive to Paris Landing where you can cross the bridge to be in the Land Between The Lakes area.

Natchez Trace Parkway / Meriwether Lewis Campground, Hohenwald, Tennessee

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here from April 27-May 1st. There is no charge to stay here. The campground is absolutely beautiful. The sites are large, well spaced, allowing for a great deal of privacy. There are no services, but water is available, though not at the individual campsites. There is very little light, so you can enjoy the natural night sky through the trees. There is plenty of shade at each site as well. The grounds are well maintained, and heavy metal trashcans with well fitting lids are scattered throughout the campgrounds. In the short time we were there we saw staff empty the trash twice, though they may have come more often and we missed it. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring. The restrooms were very clean. We camped at Natchez Trace Parkway / Meriwether Lewis Campground in a Motorhome.

We did not tow a vehicle on this trip, so we were not able to do much sightseeing. We enjoyed just relaxing in this peaceful setting. Next time we will tow so we can see the sights.

Shabbona Lake State Park, Shabbona, Illinois

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

The bathrooms and grounds could have been better maintained, but we were there off season so that might explain it. We came in after dark and both of the campground hosts were out to dinner. We had a hard time finding our campsite and would have appreciated help. However, the park is so beautiful and peaceful that this more than made up for the poor maintenance. Our campsite was on the beautiful lake and the view was just wonderful. We camped at Shabbona Lake State Park in a Motorhome.
