Nakatosh RV Park, Natchitoches, Louisiana

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped ahead of bad weather rolling in on our way home, less than 80 miles away. We called ahead a few miles out to ask about vacancies, and were told to pick any site, and pay with a self pay envelope. Seems to be a nice enough small commercial campground, though it is located behind a truck stop, so there is potential for truck noises during the night, particularly on the row of sites closest to the truck stop (there are 3 rows of pull through spaces). Spaces are wide, with some shade thanks to semi-mature trees, pull throughs are reasonable long, but may be too short for some big rigs. There are 3 or 4 restaurants (casual dining / fast food) options within easy walking distance (1/4 mile). Laundry room looks nice, though only 2 sets of machines, there is also a BBQ pit, and common pavilion room. The night we were there about half the sites were vacant, a few were apparently occupied by long term residents, the power pedestal showed some wear, though nothing excessive, all sites are 30/50 amp. We camped at Nakatosh RV Park in a Motorhome.

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, Fredericksburg, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Overall a nice public RV park, there are some renovations going on during my visit at the first of May, it appears about 1/3 of the back in rv sites are closed while work is going on (apparently getting new utility hookup posts), there are some mounds of dirt and back hoes are around the park. There is also a large (public?) dog park under construction next to the pull through sites, estimated completion date is posted as summer 2018. For those that have been here before, note they have recently renumbered the sites. We camped at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in a Motorhome.

Lake Livingston RV Park, Livingston, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nice little RV park, very nice landscaping, trees, very park like, lots of seasonal (snow bird) residents, many with their own permanent structures (carports, decks, etc.) I am just here for one night, but so far everyone seems friendly, can't beat the price with their $25 overnight, 9 am check out deal( $35 with 3 pm checkout). There is some highway noise from the state highway, at least there is in the site where I am parked, which is one of the closest ones to the road. This back in site is narrow, but is paved, works fine for smaller without slides RV's, though backing in at dusk was a threading the needle experience as there is a privacy fence comes within inches of the edge of the concrete pavement at this site, which is only about 10 feet wide, thankfully I stopped before my side view mirror had a chance to clip it. There is also nice looking small in ground pool, with deck furniture and a communal fire pit. Overall if not for the narrow site I would give the place a 10. We camped at Lake Livingston RV Park in a Motorhome.

Texarkana KOA, Texarkana, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

I generally only post reviews of campgrounds that have no recent reviews, however after reading the last few somewhat negative reviews I felt I should comment on this KOA Journey park. While I feel the price of this KOA does not provide a good value for its level of amenities, I do feel that is a reasonably nice looking location for a roadside overnight rv park. There are a number of pine trees, giving it a bit of a park like feel, and while there is some road noise being near a busy interstate highway, I never felt the road noise was extreme. There is also a mobile home park located behind the KOA which shares access through the same driveway, in fact it appears the KOA was once part of the mobile home park. The park seemed to be clean, but could stand a bit of upkeep, the power post at my site had been hit at some point and was damaged, overhanging limbs brushed my roof, and the gravel rv space could have been more level, and had slight ruts. Generally I would have no issue with this park if it were priced $10-$15 lower. We camped at Texarkana KOA in a Motorhome.

Marvel City Park, Parsons, Kansas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Spending one night here, previous reviews are still accurate though it has been 5 years since the last one was posted. Price is still $10 per night, I am here on a Sunday night and most of the spaces were taken when I arrived at sunset. It looks like some have been here for a long time (tank totes and lawn furniture set up) even though the sign at the payment drop says max stay of 10 days out of every 30. Sites appear to all be back in, I found it somewhat challenging getting into the space I selected due to sharp turn and narrow gravel roadway. We camped at Marvel City Park in a Motorhome.

Kansas State Fairgrounds, Hutchinson, Kansas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

It appears the rate is now up to $30, I am parked here on a non-event weekend in August along with a handful of other RV's. Sites are mostly level back ins gravel and a lot of grass, spacing is tight, but at least they are full hookup 30/50 amp, a few with picnic tables. There is also a dump station at the entrance, however I have not been able to locate a dumpster. Restrooms are typical public park concrete block building, I would describe as functional, not particularly clean or dirty. Sign also says this is the rate excluding Sept when the fair is going on. We camped at Kansas State Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Hoisington RV Park, Hoisington, Kansas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

As the others have said this is basically water and electric hookups on the back edge of the recreation center parking lot. Site is mostly level with slight paved parking lot slope. location is next to the water tower so easy to locate, very quiet being next to a field, and a few hundred feet from the highway (a block or two), there is a Dairy Queen fast food restaurant and a small grocery store at the highway close enough to consider being in walking distance. We camped at Hoisington RV Park in a Motorhome.

Bonham State Park, Bonham, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

I spent one night at this small state park, it is locate 2-3 miles outside Bonham down a small secondary state highway, there is not much there other than a small lake and small campground with about a dozen rv sites, all but one are back in. It is a quiet secluded location, sites are fairly close together by state park standards, though more spacious than most commercial campgrounds. I arrived after 5 pm, so check in was self service, there was a sign at the gate to go to the main office if no one was at the gate, then a self check in envelope at the small main office. I did not use the on site restrooms, which are located between the main office and the camp ground, they did however look dated on the exterior. Overall a nice quiet place to spend a night, though I am not sure I would want to spend a lot of time here. We camped at Bonham State Park in a Motorhome.

Hot Springs National Park KOA, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We spent 3 nights at this KOA, it is somewhat hilly, but with mostly shaded level sites, most sites are back in, and are comfortably spaced. Overall a nice KOA, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and store seemed to be well supplied with everything from t-shirts to toilet paper, although few food items. This KOA offers a $5 per person round trip on demand shuttle van service to the downtown bath house row tourist area (and perhaps others), which is nice even for those with their own smaller vehicles given the lack of free parking downtown. The only things keeping me from giving this rv park a 10 were a couple of issues with the hook ups, the cable TV connector was loose, cable TV picture was poor, sewer connection was poorly placed, and mounted at an angle so hose would not stay connected. Also wood picnic table was showing its age. We camped at Hot Springs National Park KOA in a Motorhome.

Ajax Country Livin' RV Park at I-49, Marthaville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We spent one night mid week, arrived about an hour before sunset, left by about 9 am the next morning. The RV park was mostly empty with only 5 or 6 other RV's there, most appeared to be long term. Wifi worked surprisingly well for being such remote location (fast enough to stream a short youtube video), this RV park is located about half a mile off I-49 and a hundred feet off the nearby highway. We had no over the air TV reception even though handout claimed 3-4 channels available. Traffic noise was minimal given the proximity to the highway. We heard no sawmill sounds that others reported. Roads and sites are gravel and grass, spacing for the pull through sites are a bit close, or could be if they were full. Each site has a white synthetic picnic table with integrated benches, it appears a few shade trees have been planted for the pull through sites, but it will still be a number of years before they are large enough to offer any shade. Some of the back in sites are shaded or partly shaded One odd rule is they require 50 amp RV's to use slightly more expensive 50 amp sites, no 50-30 amp pigtails allowed. We will certainly consider staying here again if we are passing through and need a place for the night. Overall a great place to stop for the night, and good enough to stay for a few days if you want to tour the area, friendly owners live on site. We live about 100 miles away and stopped in on our way to Arkansas, after a mid afternoon start departure when my wife got off work. We camped at Ajax Country Livin' RV Park at I-49 in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Small truck stop at the interstate exit has large sign that claims they sell fresh shrimp. Very rural location, with minimal nearby shopping options, nearest grocery, wal-mart, etc. would be either Mansfield or Natchitoches about 28 miles away. Natchitoches is one of the oldest cities in Louisiana founded in 1714, and has a scenic downtown area, these days it is mainly known for its big christmas celebration and being a small college town.
