This is the second year we have visited Spearfish City Campground. The park is beautiful with a creek running through it. The wi-fi is almost non-existent. The man in the office told us that we're not losing anything as we didn't pay for the wi-fi. However, when it is advertised, it should be something that works. Just about every night there are kids (teens or early 20's?) that hang out in the parking lot across from the City Park. Every night you hear the bass from their music. Sometimes they race through the campground, but not often. What surprises us is that this is happening right down the road from the Police Department. It's a shame, because it seems like such a nice town. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed at this KOA in Sept. 2016. When we extended our stay a few times, we noticed an "amenity fee" on our receipt. When we questioned this charge, we were told it was for an easement that the owners had to access a walking trail. They said KOA didn't let them increase the nightly charge, so they charge a separate "amenity fee". Which...we probably wouldn't mind, IF we were told about this when we checked in instead of a random charge that we weren't expecting. Also, we were going to do our laundry and ran into one of the owners. They said, "laundry room is coming down tomorrow." We asked if the washer and dryers were still inside and were told they weren't. We had NO idea. My husband called and spoke to the other owner and how they could do this without letting their guests know. She said something about not seeing us for a few days. They had been sending us our receipts via email...they could/should have sent an email to guests to advise that one of the amenities they had would now be gone. My husband asked if they would be taking a few dollars off of the rest of our stay. She snapped at him and said, "Obviously you've never run a campground before." With that, we had to go to the Spearfish public laundromat. And, we left the KOA and went to another RV resort. We camped at Spearfish / Black Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

Very crowded sites. No cable. Some full time residents, many sites very cluttered. Our neighbor had lived there for 4 years and their trash was coming under the chain link fence into our site. Quiet time (barking dogs, extremely loud neighbors and people drinking and partying until midnight) and dogs on leash not observed by all guests (which can turn very badly in seconds). Many nights people were drinking and loud until midnight. Washing machines were ok, but had to keep feeding quarters into dryers as they took forever to dry clothes. Wireless worked at first, had wind and rain one night, wireless was out for 4 days. Water pressure was not enough for our on demand hot water heater to get hot water in bathroom sink. Called office twice and were told someone would come check it out, nobody showed up. Website says they have security, but never saw a security vehicle, so might just be person in the booth that collects money since the park is open to the public. Stayed 2 weeks instead of the 3 months we reserved. Emailed park about being refunded $45 cancellation fee since our visit was terrible, and they knew that. In my opinion , they don't care to make any changes to make people's visit more enjoyable. Most businesses care about keeping their customers happy. We were told that they put a copy of our email in our records, in case we ever try to make a reservation there again. Not good customer service in my book. We camped at Pleasant Harbor RV Resort in a Motorhome.
