Carl G Washburne Memorial State Park, Florence, Oregon

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is a FCFS park so we had our choice of sites. There were several sites long enough but obstructions across the road made backing into some difficult. We did not have any interaction with the camp hosts. No cell service, wifi or OTA channels. The beach is easily accessible across Hwy 101. You can hear the roar of the ocean. We camped at Carl G Washburne Memorial State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Friendly RV Park, Weed, California

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Staff was friendly on check in and the escort to our site knew exactly how far to pull forward for our utility hook ups. Wifi was excellent but only 4 OTA channels with no networks. Management offered to let me borrow a cable so I could watch the Final Four. The laundry room was clean with 2 washers and dryers. They were not coin-op so for $2 you could manage the dry time. Intended as only an overnight stop, it was easy to extend so we could see a couple of the nearby sites. We would definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at Friendly RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Weed is an interesting little town to explore with few shopping opportunities. A big Petro truck stop has propane and easy access pumps for RV's. We drove up Mt Shasta as far as the road was open. There's a very interesting Sculpture Garden honoring veterans past Lake Shastina.

Silver City RV Resort, Minden, Nevada

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Most of the 200 advertised sites are fulltimers but are separated from the transient sites. They were clean and well kept though so did not look trashy. The park is under new ownership effective March 1, 2018 and the website does NOT reflect what is available. Formerly a Passport and Good Sam park, no discounts are offered. The gas and diesel pumps were being removed while we were there which made it a little tricky to exit the park. The park map they hand out also has the GS logo and the office hours listed there are not accurate. The convenience store and activity room are not available after the office closes at 6:00. When you take over a business, it seems all that should be in place or at least noted on the website that changes are coming. I wonder about those people who made reservations prior to the sale whether the discounts were honored after March 1. There was some confusion at check in whether we had paid for the site and it took 3 employees to figure it out. The gentleman who escorted us to the site was extremely helpful in explaining where the various facilities were which no one in the office had done. He also checked with us the next day to see how things were going. Otherwise the sites were large with plenty of room to park our truck next to our rig. The rig sat on concrete steps while the rest of the site was gravel. OTA was great but the wifi was not consistent. We camped at Silver City RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Beatty RV Park, Beatty, Nevada

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This rate is at the monthly rate then add electric at .12kwh used. Parking looked a little odd because the sites were all pull through and staggered in the two rows but everyone managed to get their rigs in and out. Sites 1-12 in the front row were of course the easiest to maneuver in and out. Two unisex bathrooms were large and clean and included the showers that had ample hot water and pressure. The laundry room had 3 washers and dryers with $1.50 to wash and 50 cents to dry but that time was not ample so I had to dry the loads twice. While it sits on Hwy 95 heavily used by truckers, the traffic slows down at night and was not very noticeable. There are also wild burros across the highway you can see and hear at all hours. OTA was nonexistent and their wifi was spotty. We were warned about each when making the reservation so we were not blindsided by the lack of those amenities. Both staff members were extremely friendly and helpful. We camped at Beatty RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Beatty is a small town with little to offer. Two gas stations and one only accepts debit cards. The Family Dollar carries a good supply of cold food in addition to their standard supply of dry goods. That is the only place to buy groceries. Another campground in town advertises a "market" but I didn't find much there. There is a nice local museum with Rhyolite, a deserted gold town, and Death Valley as easy day trips.

Fletcher View Campground, Humboldt-Toiyabe NF, Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Being early in the season we were the lone outfit besides the camp hosts. They were very friendly and helpful. The site we originally reserved was not user friendly in that we could not successfully back in a 40' rig due to trees across from the site. The camp hosts helped us change our reservation so we could have Site 1 which was much easier to back in. The downfall to the campground was the narrow one way loop at the end that you have to maneuver through to turn around and exit the CG. We were there 2 weeks and saw other smaller rigs come in with no apparent problem. The CG is at about 6500 feet and we did wake up one morning to 4" of snow. Host was out and plowed the road and shoveled a path to our door. We would stay here again only if we could get site #1. We camped at Fletcher View Campground, Humboldt-Toiyabe NF in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We were initially charged the Passport America rate for two nights. We decided to stay a third night and was charged a different discount. Average charge was $77/3=25.60. Four washers and dryers with $1 to wash and $1.25 to dry. Permanent campers left their laundry in the machines and did not remove timely. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. OTA- TV was good. Emerald Cove Resort, Earp, California

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

As guests of a member we only paid $10 per night. Streets were wide allowing for backing into the sites if vehicles were not parked in front of campers. We were surprised to find only 30 amp available. Picnic table needed repair. We took advantage of happy hour at the bar but did not use any of the other resort amenities. We camped at Emerald Cove Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Wild West Ranch and RV Resort (formerly John Wayne RV Ranch), Maricopa, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Daily rate is calculated on monthly discount and electric deposit which after a month we have not received our refund. $500/ 21 days = $23.80. Level gravel sites with plenty of width between sites. Although when I called I was told there were picnic tables, we had to ask to have one moved to our site. The clubhouse was locked except when used two nights. The trash dumpsters were at either end of the park, a nice hike either direction. The laundry room was large but several of the washers and dryers were down the three weeks we were there. Maintenance man and office staff were friendly. We didn't use the shower but I wouldn't have because it was located so far from the campsite. We camped at Wild West Ranch and RV Resort (formerly John Wayne RV Ranch) in a Fifth Wheel.

Quail Ridge RV Resort , Huachuca City, Arizona

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is for weekly with electric metered for each site at $.16 per kwh. Sites are level packed gravel. Excellent community building with full kitchen and big screen TV, games, book exchange. Used nearly daily for an activity. Wifi was too slow to be effective even though there were several boosters. OTA reception was only NBC. Office closes at 4:30 and any arrivals after that park at clubhouse and boondock until morning. Rarely saw any park personnel; manager spent time behind desk in office. 4 washers and 6 dryers worked well; limited area for folding however being next to clubhouse it was easy to fold clothes there. We camped at Quail Ridge RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Huachuca City has gas stations and Dollar General. Sierra Vista is 15-20 minutes and has plenty of places to shop - Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, Bealls, PetSmart, to name a few. Tombstone and Bisbee are easy day trips. Tucson via Nogalles is a nice drive with stops at the missions at Tumacacori and San Xavier del Bac, Old Tucson Studio, and Saguaro National Park.

Sun Valley RV Resort (formerly Root 66 RV Park), Sun Valley, Arizona

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a family owned RV park, not a resort, located between old Route 66 and I40. It is a work in progress. The new shower house was not yet completed. All the electrical has been replaced throughout the park. The clubhouse is more like a large living room with big screen TV and comfortable couches. It was available all night using the code. The laundry was accessible through the the clubhouse. Two washers/dryers plus the families washer and dryer were available for use. Passport America discount was available for the entire stay. I40 noise blocked by building in the back row but when we moved to the front you could hear the traffic. We stayed 2 weeks and will go back and watch their progress. We camped at Sun Valley RV Resort (formerly Root 66 RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

La Mesa RV Park, Cortez, Colorado

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Although entrance is marked with a large "RV Park" sign, it was difficult to distinguish between that entrance, the one to the gas station, and the road just passed it. It was easy to circle back to the entrance however. Owner was very nice and provided information about what to see while there. She gave us the site because it was longer and did not have cable (which we don't use anyway). She advised us about the tree in the back of the site but failed to warn us about the large one in front. In positioning the RV to miss the rear one, we hit a large branch and tore a chunk out of the front corner of our rig . It was the off season so we were able to extend our stay with no problem. We were able to get 82 channels off our antenna which included the news and weather from Salt Lake City, Grand Junction, and Albequerque. The Passport America discount was only good one night. The other two nights we got a 15% veterans' discount. The rate listed is the average of the 3 nights we were there. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mesa Verde NP is a full day trip, especially in the summer when Weatherill Loop is open. The Anasazi Museum is very kid friendly with hands-on activities. The volunteers working the day we were there were very knowledgeable about sights to see on our way south. Four Corners Monument is about a 40 minute drive.

Park is about two miles off the highway on the edge of the residential area. The manager on duty was friendly and very informative about the area. The laundry room was open 24 hours; washers were $1.75 and dryers $1.50 with 4 commercial washers and 6 dryers. The outside common area looks very appealing for the summer season with grills and patio furniture to enjoy the spectacular view. We camped at OK RV Park & Canyonlands Stables in a Fifth Wheel.

Camperworld Lakeside Park, Duchesne, Utah

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Do not use the address on the website. We ended up on the opposite side of town using our GPS. We called the park and they stayed on the phone with us until we found the place. Potential for very shady in spring and summer. Our site was level and long enough that we did not need to disconnect . Arriving from the east the entrance is not well marked but we did see good signage to the west of the entrance. The managers were very nice and accommodating. We were able to get 32 channels off the antenna. Although we were off the highway, there was no noticeable highway noise. We camped at Camperworld Lakeside Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rock Springs / Green River KOA, Rock Springs, Wyoming

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We were given a Deluxe Patio site in the off season. It had a two-sided privacy fence with fire ring and table on concrete. The weather was not conducive to using either. The sites and roadways are densely packed gravel. We were able to get 2 networks and PBS on our antenna. The staff person was very nice at check-in. The dog loved the K9 park. It was grassy and he had plenty of room to explore. The downfall is the entrance is difficult to find off the frontage road. The park sits behind a complex of possible gas storage tanks. We were far enough off the interstate not to be disturbed by the late night traffic. We camped at Rock Springs / Green River KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
