Quail Ridge RV Resort , Huachuca City, Arizona

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is for weekly with electric metered for each site at $.16 per kwh. Sites are level packed gravel. Excellent community building with full kitchen and big screen TV, games, book exchange. Used nearly daily for an activity. Wifi was too slow to be effective even though there were several boosters. OTA reception was only NBC. Office closes at 4:30 and any arrivals after that park at clubhouse and boondock until morning. Rarely saw any park personnel; manager spent time behind desk in office. 4 washers and 6 dryers worked well; limited area for folding however being next to clubhouse it was easy to fold clothes there. We camped at Quail Ridge RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Huachuca City has gas stations and Dollar General. Sierra Vista is 15-20 minutes and has plenty of places to shop - Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, Bealls, PetSmart, to name a few. Tombstone and Bisbee are easy day trips. Tucson via Nogalles is a nice drive with stops at the missions at Tumacacori and San Xavier del Bac, Old Tucson Studio, and Saguaro National Park.

Sun Valley RV Resort (formerly Root 66 RV Park), Sun Valley, Arizona

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a family owned RV park, not a resort, located between old Route 66 and I40. It is a work in progress. The new shower house was not yet completed. All the electrical has been replaced throughout the park. The clubhouse is more like a large living room with big screen TV and comfortable couches. It was available all night using the code. The laundry was accessible through the the clubhouse. Two washers/dryers plus the families washer and dryer were available for use. Passport America discount was available for the entire stay. I40 noise blocked by building in the back row but when we moved to the front you could hear the traffic. We stayed 2 weeks and will go back and watch their progress. We camped at Sun Valley RV Resort (formerly Root 66 RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Within easy driving distance to the Petrified Forest/Painted Desert and to Winslow to "stand on the corner". Jackrabbit Trading Post was a fun stop to look for souvenirs. Another family trying to keep Route 66 alive. No Walmart but Safeway near the WigWam Motel in Holbrook.

La Mesa RV Park, Cortez, Colorado

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Although entrance is marked with a large "RV Park" sign, it was difficult to distinguish between that entrance, the one to the gas station, and the road just passed it. It was easy to circle back to the entrance however. Owner was very nice and provided information about what to see while there. She gave us the site because it was longer and did not have cable (which we don't use anyway). She advised us about the tree in the back of the site but failed to warn us about the large one in front. In positioning the RV to miss the rear one, we hit a large branch and tore a chunk out of the front corner of our rig . It was the off season so we were able to extend our stay with no problem. We were able to get 82 channels off our antenna which included the news and weather from Salt Lake City, Grand Junction, and Albequerque. The Passport America discount was only good one night. The other two nights we got a 15% veterans' discount. The rate listed is the average of the 3 nights we were there. We camped at La Mesa RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mesa Verde NP is a full day trip, especially in the summer when Weatherill Loop is open. The Anasazi Museum is very kid friendly with hands-on activities. The volunteers working the day we were there were very knowledgeable about sights to see on our way south. Four Corners Monument is about a 40 minute drive.

OK RV Park & Canyonlands Stables, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Park is about two miles off the highway on the edge of the residential area. The manager on duty was friendly and very informative about the area. The laundry room was open 24 hours; washers were $1.75 and dryers $1.50 with 4 commercial washers and 6 dryers. The outside common area looks very appealing for the summer season with grills and patio furniture to enjoy the spectacular view. We camped at OK RV Park & Canyonlands Stables in a Fifth Wheel.

Camperworld Lakeside Park, Duchesne, Utah

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Do not use the address on the website. We ended up on the opposite side of town using our GPS. We called the park and they stayed on the phone with us until we found the place. Potential for very shady in spring and summer. Our site was level and long enough that we did not need to disconnect . Arriving from the east the entrance is not well marked but we did see good signage to the west of the entrance. The managers were very nice and accommodating. We were able to get 32 channels off the antenna. Although we were off the highway, there was no noticeable highway noise. We camped at Camperworld Lakeside Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rock Springs / Green River KOA, Rock Springs, Wyoming

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We were given a Deluxe Patio site in the off season. It had a two-sided privacy fence with fire ring and table on concrete. The weather was not conducive to using either. The sites and roadways are densely packed gravel. We were able to get 2 networks and PBS on our antenna. The staff person was very nice at check-in. The dog loved the K9 park. It was grassy and he had plenty of room to explore. The downfall is the entrance is difficult to find off the frontage road. The park sits behind a complex of possible gas storage tanks. We were far enough off the interstate not to be disturbed by the late night traffic. We camped at Rock Springs / Green River KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Ruby Valley Campground and RV Park (formerly Virginia City KOA), Alder, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Common areas were watered but the sites did not have any grass. Sites were so close I could see into the neighbor's rig on one side and the other side had the sewer and water hookups in our yard. We could not use our picnic table due to proximity. All sites were pull-through. We camped at Ruby Valley Campground and RV Park (formerly Virginia City KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park, Cardwell, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $38.00

Due to the terrain there were very few trees. Montana has been in a drought so there was no green grass. We were only there for a night because it was convenient on our route. Rate was higher because we were nonresidents. We camped at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Eagle Nest RV Resort, Polson, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

We did not use any of the amenities at our first resort experience. Staff was helpful and friendly. The roads were narrow so it was a little difficult parking the 40ft rig. Luckily when we left the site ahead of us was empty making it easier to leave. We camped at Eagle Nest RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The drive through the National Bison Range is well worth the trip. Take a picnic lunch. The road is gravel throughout and I would not recommend taking a low riding vehicle. Also visit St. Ignatius Mission. The drive around Flathead Lake is beautiful. I would not recommend the local "Miracle Museum"; we found it dirty and disorganized.

Rainbow Point Campground (USFS), West Yellowstone, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first experience with a Forest Service Campground. Campground hosts were visible and seen working often so the sites were well maintained. There is plenty of room between the sites to afford some privacy. The road coming off the highway is paved but not well maintained...too many bumps and potholes. The two miles into the campground is gravel with many potholes and bumps. Despite the road conditions, we would stay there again. We camped at Rainbow Point Campground (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

Only 5 miles from West Yellowstone if you need groceries, fuel, or just to sightsee. We did a day trip to Mammoth Hot Springs. Hebgen Lake is in easy walking distance for fishing or there is a boat ramp. Quake Lake should be visited en route if coming from Ennis or make it a day trip if you come from the south.

Spruce Park on the River, Kalispell, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

We had reservations for a week and liked it so well after two days we extended to two weeks. Our site, while long enough for the RV, was not long enough to drop the tailgate on the toyhauler without being in the roadway. The laundry had 5 washers and 4 dryers and was always clean when I used it. The desk staff was very friendly and helpful. There was no one to lead us to our site but we managed to follow their directions. My husband was able to fish from the bank of the Flathead River. Wifi was adequate and we did not use their cable. It was an easy drive to the east entrance of Glacier Park. We could not use the fire rings since there was a burn ban due to all the fires in the area. We would definitely stay again if we make another trip to Glacier Park. We camped at Spruce Park on the River in a Fifth Wheel.

Johnson's Campground and RV Park, Browning, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Office staff was extremely friendly and helpful when the dog locked us out of the running truck. Sites were close together and it was difficult pulling into the site with campers on either side especially since one was too close to the road. If they had staff escorting to the site, he should have been told to pull farther into the site. Sites are on a hillside above the office and amenities. Sites are "stairs" going up the hillside. Pad was not level and the yard was uneven making it awkward to even walk around. Dump station was easily accessible. Probably would not stay here again. We camped at Johnson's Campground and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Concrete picnic table and fire ring were towards the rear of our site and we did not use them. We arrived early and were able to choose a great spot in the nonreservable loop. We had plenty of shade although some sites were not as lucky. There are two shower houses for 3 loops; we used the one on the most distant loop since fewer campers were using it.
