JBSA Fort Sam Houston RV Park (Military FamCamp), Fort Sam Houston Army Post, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived in San Antonio from the south east via I-10 and with help over the telephone with the co-pilot. We eventually maneuvered our way onto post via the Walters Street gate. Once on post, there is absolutely no signage for the campground. Much of this is due to major road construction both on and off post. Consequentially, many of the temporary roads are in bad shape, and it is a busy post. We eventually found our way to the campground and we checked into our site. A good map emailed ahead of time with the available entrances and recommended approach would be a great help. We visited the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) and the Ft Sam Museum, both on post, both free and well worth a visit. Although we do not utilize them, we visited the restroom/shower/laundry facilities (2ea), they are in need of a good deep cleaning. Cobwebs abound, evidence of the lack of cleaning. And in the two weeks we were there, the grass was never mowed. The grass was about a foot high when we pulled out. The trains are about one or two an hour, and love to use their horn... otherwise the area is quiet. We enjoyed our stay in San Antonio, we'd return to this campground, however, the management needs to give up on the apparent hands-off, sit in the office, approach and perform daily inspections of the facilities and campsites. We camped at JBSA Fort Sam Houston RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Corral Drive-In RV Park, Guymon, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Our first visit to the Corral Drive RV Park. Arrived on a Friday, departed on Monday. We had made reservations via email some months ahead of our trip. Check-in was uneventful, staff was friendly & helpful. We were informed if you are staying in the RV Park you are still required to purchase Drive-in tickets to watch the movie and receive the FM frequency for the sound. We couldn't clearly see the screen from our site, and the movie didn't sound like something we were interested in, so we didn't partake. Park was well maintained, site was pull-thru and large. Surface was crushed stone surrounded by grass. Train nearby, with an occasional blast of the horn. No picnic table or grill. We enjoyed our stay and we'd return. We camped at Corral Drive-In RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sea Rim State Park, Sabine Pass, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We booked on-line, arrived on a Tuesday and departed on Friday. Check-in with the Park Manager was pleasant enough, he informed us of the rules, told us to go pick a site and return with the number. Suggested we'd appreciate the windy sites, as that keeps the mosquitoes away. The sites were large enough, although the high weeds could have been trimmed back a bit more. Nice boardwalk to the beach area. The road that once allowed your to drive onto the beach, had been washed out during recent storms, they created an alternate route that unfortunately brings all that traffic through the campground area. We seen a great deal of wildlife while visiting from rats, to cotton-mouth snakes and alligators. There is a very nice nature trail in the park, which is worth a visit. We enjoyed the seclusion of this park, we'd return. We camped at Sea Rim State Park in a Motorhome.

Goodfellow AFB Recreation Area (Military FamCamp), San Angelo, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived at Goodfellow Rec Camp on a Wednesday afternoon for a two-night stay. We had made telephonic reservations 45 days out. However, the Office is closed on Wednesday, so when we arrived the Camp Host directed us to a couple 50A FHU back-in sites from which we could select. We parked and connected. Sites were concrete, however they had not been swept or edged in some time. Trees had not been trimmed, grass mowing, weed-eating, edging and cleanliness through-out the park was not a priority. An oddity was the enormous cast steel ground box with lid that covered the water hook-up. It had to be manipulated to access the water hydrant. No idea why that was there, it was so hot from the sun, when we arrived that you couldn't lift it without gloves. Trash cans had overflown near the restrooms. Camp host was very friendly and offered his assistance several times. I visited the Office the next morning to pay, they were not welcoming nor informative. Just took my payment. No welcome, do you have any questions, here is what we offer, etc. This park is in an excellent location, and with some work could be an outstanding park, however, currently it is not. We camped at Goodfellow AFB Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Oasis RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived at the park on Friday afternoon for a week-long stay. We had made reservations via email, months in advance. The reservation process was easy. they asked the dates and provided me a courtesy hold on a site till 6pm on my date of arrival. No credit card required. Facilities are clean, well maintained and quiet, considering the interstate is not far away. We enjoyed our stay, visited the local attractions, e.g. Cadillac Ranch, Palo Duro Canyon, RV Museum... etc. We'd return. We camped at Oasis RV Resort in a Motorhome.

(BTW there are two Blue Beacon truck/RV washes in Amarillo, ask me how I know...LOL)

Ashland City RV Park (Kreher Park), Ashland, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We called the office about availability - the lady said: "we are really very wide open". So we arrived about noon on a Thursday. We learned they "lady" in the office really doesn't know what is available. The host informed us, that his estimation was: somewhere in the park, 4 sites were unoccupied. He said all the sites would accommodate our 43' motorhome. So we drove around, 2 of the 4 available sites, were too short, 3 of the 4 had only 30 amp. We ended up on the one double site. Luckily we had an extension cord to make our electrical connection. So we talked with our neighbors a couple sites away and learned they were leaving in the morning. So we made plans to move in the morning. Our new site was much better, 50 amp and water. None of the sites have sewer hook ups. Be aware that adjacent to the RV Park is a large Superfund hazardous clean up site, which is active 7 days week and on a few days put off fumes that were rather nasty smelling. The clean up will likely be active for a couple more years. It blocks the Lakeside Walking path, and forces a detour into the town and back to maneuver around the Hazardous cleanup. Certainly not a plus. We camped at Ashland City RV Park (Kreher Park) in a Motorhome.

Lakehead Boat Basin, Duluth, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This RV Park is all about location. We enjoyed our stay because there are so many interesting and enjoyable places within walking distance of the RV park. It was difficult to get reservations, as the RV Park is very popular. We arrived early afternoon, went into the Marina office across the street to register. We had full hookups & a back in site. Be aware that Duluth has numerous taxes targeted at travels. Sales Tax = 7.8750% Hotel Tax = 3% Sales Tax City = .5% adding about $5 per night to our rate. They are in the process of building a Fairfield Inn on the Marina property which will certainly make the area more congested once it opens (currently projected to open early in 2018). The current construction made the marina noisy and caused delays for those wish to enter or exit as the construction often blocked the single access driveway. Glad we visited. We camped at Lakehead Boat Basin in a Motorhome.

Vermilion Sunsets RV Park, Cook, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

My search for a camp site large enough for our 43' MH and with full hookups taught me one thing: full hook up campgrounds in this part of Minnesota are rather rare. And those you do find are a bit pricey. Our goal was to visit the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary and this campground was close enough. It was about 30 minutes to the Sanctuary. We arrived while it was raining, went to the Marina next door to register. They told us to select any available site. Half the sites were unoccupied, we found one large enough and just level enough to accommodate our coach. Hookups were fine, it was very quiet. Grounds could have been better maintained, however, they had about 7 days of rain when we arrived so that probably impacted their mowing schedule. We'd stay here again. We camped at Vermilion Sunsets RV Park in a Motorhome.

Leake County Water Park, Lena, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice campground, no permanent residents, however, several that appeared to be long-term folks. Nicely wooded location, pool, playground, riverfront facility with boat dock and a rather large fish cleaning station. There were many open, all concrete pad sites when we arrived and it's basically a self-service arrangement. Pick your site, and if the management doesn't come visit and collect the rent during your visit, you are asked to drop it in the drop box at the office. We found a site with SW DISH satellite access, and we had AT&T 4GLTE at about 6MB. We arrived early afternoon on Friday, by 1900hrs that evening the campground had filled up with weekenders and watercraft. However, other than a gigantic cloud of smoke from all the campfires, everyone was well-behaved and relatively quiet and respectful, even the kids, which seemed to be having a great time. We'd stay here again. We camped at Leake County Water Park in a Motorhome.

We arrived as a storm was brewing and the Operations Manager, Bud came to our rig and said just go get set up in any available site, and come to the office whenever it's convenient. So we selected the lower campground, site 11. We very much enjoyed our stay. We visited the museum, the park displays, and the other areas near the river. We were able to receive DISH satellite, and Verizon 4GLTE at about 3mb, which was acceptable. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Motorhome.
