Elkhart County Fairgrounds, Goshen, Indiana

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Campground was not easy to locate using our GPS. It is outside of town, which is common for Fair Grounds. Unfortunately is 20-30 minutes from the Interstate. As other reviews mentioned, there are a lot of trains working 24/7 and although you can tune them out, can be heard. Staff was very nice and friendly. We had our choice of sites. Perhaps a dozen other campers. Water and sewer is available throughout the year even though we opted for just electric. The Wifi is good and stable to use. The showers and restrooms are nice and clean. The sites are back in, but you can pull through open sites if you are careful. The website states Cable TV, but is meant to sat TV channels easily available with antenna. We were able to get all major networks and several other channels with good signal and clear picture. We camped at Elkhart County Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Would be a great place to stay while visiting the area. A bit out of the way for an over night stay while travelling. The Fair Grounds are nice and clean and very friendly.

Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Resort, Joliet, Illinois

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The visit started with a terrible first impression ! The agent at the registration desk was very rude, cold and acted very uninterested in our needs or stay. Very argumentative about every question leaving us just wanting to get out of there and in our assigned RV spot. Out of the entire campground, there were only 3 (including us) staying. Not sure why it was such a big deal to have our site so specifically assigned. Forget anything you see on their website in regards to amenities or features. They failed to mention pretty much everything was under construction/renovation through the winter months. The Campground building for restrooms, showers, laundry, etc was closed and all water was shut off and no sewer connections were allowed. Due to all the lack of advertised features we were told we were getting a special winter rate of only $20. The website also states FREE WiFi, Complimentary Hot Breakfast this was only offered with a mandatory $10/night resort fee. After looking back through their website, I did see the extra resort fee associated with the hotel, but nothing mentioned in the RV section. We were told we could use the fitness center to shower if needed, but would have to ask the desk representative to let us into the room as they do not issue cards to RV guests. The first surprise when we did go to utilize the fitness center was again the terrible customer service attitude from the desk representative/agent. Again felt like we were putting them out or disturbing them (despite no other customers or guests anywhere around the area). We were escorted down a long hall of hotel rooms and then the last room was opened. We were shocked to find what they consider a "fitness center" was actually just a hotel room with 3 exercise machines facing a wall with 3 TV's which operate from the same remote (so you are at the mercy of the first person using the machine and watching the TV's). The "shower" was a small unclean bathroom and no towels. We camped at Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Perhaps a stay in warmer weather when all the construction and remodeling is completely would be more pleasing. We felt mislead and cheated and treated like a lower class visitor. You do have to pay for the so called (and very weak and unstable) Wifi. The FREE hot breakfast.

Meskwaki RV Park, Tama, Iowa

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

We were very happy with all aspects of our recent stay. We arrived early and was met with friendly staff who was very attentive to our needs and stay. Access to the RV Park was easy and easy to navigate and hook up. Restrooms were clean and updated with a nice hotel style. Access to the casino was easy. Much like many other casinos, many visitors are smokers, so for those sensitive to cigarette smoke will find this unappealing. Wish we had more time to enjoy the park and area. Will visit again We camped at Meskwaki RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tower Campground, Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Despite having reservations, the park was Closed. While the sign of the office said, "will return at 2:30" no one was ever in the office. We looked at the boards and signs and found a note for assistance to call a number or see the camp host. No one answered the number and kept just getting a recording of no use. Went to the specified site number to contact the Camp Host only to find a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the camper door. We took an envelop from the box for late check in (even though we arrived early afternoon). The information on the envelop was not accurate and none of the codes worked. We drove around the campground for a while before finding a spot we could get into. Most were ice/snow covered or very muddy or flooded. We were finally able to talk with someone on the phone who seemed to be put out we were there and asked for correct codes, remote for the TV, etc. He came to our spot with a TV remote and several little paper slips with updated codes. He said they were changed the first of the month and guessed "no one changed out the envelopes in the late check in" The Ice was so bad a our entry door we had to go through an entire bag of ice melt just to avoid slipping and prevent falling. We finally were able to get into the bathrooms only to find them in terrible condition. Not sure when the last time they were cleaned or trash emptied. This is on the most expensive RV Parks we have stayed and found to be one of the worst. The WiFi was very infrequent and unstable. The picture of the provided cable TV was terrible. At least during this time of year, the park is not kept up and friendly for overnight visitors. Most campers were older and setup for monthly longer term use. Do yourself a favor and do more checking and find a better campground and avoid this unfriendly and run down park. We camped at Tower Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Good to another campground. Even in the winter months, there are a couple others open and most likely better maintained and managed.

Pea Patch RV Park, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Stay here at the last minute as the park we wanted was not able to handle a large 5th wheel. This park is not able either and shouldn't have accepted our booking. There are only about 20ish sites total and most very small, unlevel and hard to maneuver about. Despite the website claims of Cable TV and Free WiFi, it is not available. Was told on check in there is no cable tv at all and they had just installed a new WiFi which was located inside the building (not outside on a pole, roof, etc) We were not able to get on the WiFi much of the time and when we could it was very poor and not stable. The area is very busy and noisy. The bathrooms and showers were not very clean and outdated. Actually had a hair dryer mounted to the wall to dry off your hands. The sites are surrounded by railroad ties for barriers which prevented full extension of our super slides. Had to use a lot of blocks to finally get level which took over 30 minutes (usually takes less than 5). Not sure how safe the area is, but felt uncomfortable as people would be walking around all hours of the night, etc. I will avoid this park at all costs and never stay again, despite new owners and trying to make a go of things. Stay at your own risk... We camped at Pea Patch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great Escape RV Park & Campground, Higginsville, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice owners and staff. Have stayed at this park in the past and have noticed drastic improvements, especially regarding the grounds. Nicely kept and clean with 2 fishing ponds which can also be used with kayak, small boat, etc...(no motors). Clean restrooms and shower and laundry. There is a nice selection of books an games for use from the laundry room. The pool is open and refreshing salt water. Most sites are pull through with 50 Amp service, water and sewer. Free WiFi is available throughout the park. The upper sites have nice shade with tree coverage. There are 2 club houses for rent. The upper is large for big groups and events. The lower deck is good for RV Clubs, Group, etc... The park can accommodate large RV's as well as smaller back in sites for smaller travel trailers, popups, tents, etc. The sites are close to each other but the staff does well spacing RV's for added space unless they are full. Each site has picnic table and fire pit. Firewood can be purchased from the office at a very reasonable price. Ice is available at the office and soft drink machines are located at each level. We camped at Great Escape RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The park is right off I-70 and easy access. There is a truck stop across I-70 as well as a McDonalds and Casey's. There is a small Wal-Mart in Higginsville (about 5 Miles from the Park). Mainly fast food type of restaurants. Large shopping and eating is only about 20 minutes West on I-70. Enjoyed this stay and plan to come back.
