Rivers Provincial Park, Rivers, Manitoba

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Had a wonderful stay @ Rivers! A week turned into 2. Now, reservations are a must, as this is a very active park, what with a lake, beach, playgrounds, walking trails, etc., but it is worth it. Because it's Canada's 150th, firewood was free & in abundance. We will stay here again. The town of Rivers itself also has a kick-ass bakery. We camped at Rivers Provincial Park in a Motorhome.

Pipestone RV Campground, Pipestone, Minnesota

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Overall, was a nice park. Camp host not on duty when we arrived, so it was self-check in. And since it was a Thursday, no issues. But they do take reservations, & the park was full for the weekend. We were lucky enough that they had 1 electric/water spot left that was able to accommodate us for the weekend. We ended up in in the center "island", where you share a central water & electric locaction with everyone else on the "island", which made it feel closer than it probably was. We camped at Pipestone RV Campground in a Motorhome.

R Campground Inc, Charles City, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

OK.....snuggled up against the Cedar River, we really enjoyed our stay here. There are pull-thru slots, as well as back-in & camping sites. If your site has water & electric, it also has sewer. The gracious & friendly host piped in sewer to the rest of the sites last year. We saw bald eagles during our stay. Kayak or canoe the river. Sit by a fire as the stars come out. To be fair, not all the sites are "dead level", but the overall experience was one we are GOING to repeat. We hope others do the same. We camped at R Campground Inc in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

For a "sleepy" little Iowa town, there are actually things in town to see. Go see the Mooney collection of etchings from as far back as the 1200s. Go see the museum.

Burnidge Forest Preserve, Paul Wolff Campground, Elgin, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park is a first come, first serve kind of park. Pull in, find a spot to your liking, go pay. No reservations are taken. We were in a pull-through in what seems to be a newer part of this park, and while it was asphalt, wasn't dead level, which seems to be the case with most of the spots here. Not a big deal. Power and water only, with 2 spots you can dump. 1 in the camping area, 1 just outside. Place was clean and well maintained. Firewood 5$ a bundle, and they deliver. The trees in this part were still fairly new, so majority of spots in this section were full sun. When they mature, this will be a must-stop location. It was windier than a mug when we were there. Also, there seemed to be a lot of ticks floatin' around, so be aware. Overall, really liked this park. Quiet, close to the Big City, great for star gazing! Will stay there again. We camped at Burnidge Forest Preserve, Paul Wolff Campground in a Motorhome.

Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard, Chicago, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This place is, after all, a truck yard. You do have to plan (& call) ahead. But, you're only a couple miles down the lake front from the Navy Pier, & dead across Lakeshore Dr from the 31st St beach. For the money, this close to downtown, Urban Boondocking works for this camper. Will stop here again. We camped at Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The guy said this lot is available year round, but I'd definitely check during football season, as Soldier Field is less than a mile up the street, & this lot may be used for game day parking.
