Lake Casitas Recreation Area, Ventura, California

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Sadly, this place has gone downhill. We have stayed here before, about once a year. Probably even an old review here. But after last year and this time, no more. There are better places in SoCal. Stayed in Bass this time. Water and Electric, but over-run by partiers, even mid-week. The young couple in the tent next to us were quite proud of their wide-ranging tastes in music, and were quite willing to share. Our children (14 and 8) have "outgrown" most of the water park, and were bored within 1 hour. The restrooms were atrocious, some campers thought it was appropriate to throw used toilet tissue in the corner of the stall instead of flushing it. Despite last winter's heavy rains, the lake is still low. All in all, a very disappointing experience. Lake Casitas, we wanted to give you one last chance, but you failed us. We camped at Lake Casitas Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

As others have said, big park. We moved through check-in at a good pace. They sell big rolls of reflectix in their shop and it helps! Site faced the setting sun and my existing shades couldn't cope. The only down-side for us was the family pool. By 4 PM it was so cloudy and murky you couldn't see the bottom. Kids didn't even want to stay in it. We camped at Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Fillmore KOA, Fillmore, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here before, and liked it. This time it was harder to rate. It was clean. Grass was green because they set up a portable sprinkler that also watered the side of my rig. They had a fun evening activity for the kids. They had a youthful worker that loved to zoom through the park in a golf cart. The big downside to us was that this is now an ATV base camp. We were one of the very few who weren't there to ride trails. ATV's putted (nicely) into camp late at night, and left before dawn. ATVs clustered in groups around their mothership motorhomes. Leaving the park was a slalom course of zigzags around vehicles parked everywhere. I would stay here again, but perhaps not during riding season. We camped at Fillmore KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

When coming from the North, my GPS wanted me to exit the first Fillmore exit. This routes you through town, and a lot of road construction. The campground is more easily accessed by the South Fillmore exit.

Antelope Island State Park - Bridger Bay Campground, Syracuse, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This is the first park we stayed at based solely on RVParkReviews recommendations. It was worth it! Sites are huge, views are incredible. It's dry camping, but no problem. We were there the end of June and the breeze was just right to keep everything cool. Didn't need to run a generator. The flies ("brine flies") were in the millions down on the shore, but they stayed there. The bay was smelly (sulfuric) from normal life. No problems up in the camp. It is a long walk down to the shore (lake is lower level than past years). Visitor Center is easy to get in and out of in a big rig, and was interesting even for the kids. The sunset was incredible. I actually got up at 4 AM and went outside just to look at the stars... Not only would I stay here again, I would make this a destination campground from California. Very surprised to see most sites taken by tenters, not RVers. We camped at Antelope Island State Park - Bridger Bay Campground in a Motorhome.

Rawlins KOA, Rawlins, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

OK as an overnighter, not much more. Not the best place to stay with kids - small playground, no pool, game room was a couple board games that we already had on board. And the windbreaks on the patio are there for a reason, this is on a ridge and gets the wind! A bit tight getting out with the park full, but made it without mishap. We camped at Rawlins KOA in a Motorhome.

Sleepy Sunflower RV Park (formerly Open Corral Campground), Ogallala, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Gave me the military discount for "former" military. Sites were large enough, slightly bigger than some KOA's I've been in. Freeway noise was not an issue. Kids had great fun with the karaoke machine in the game room. Even had exercise equipment! Nice and easy on and off from the freeway, I would stay here again. We camped at Sleepy Sunflower RV Park (formerly Open Corral Campground) in a Motorhome.

Newton KOA , Newton, Iowa

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Missed the turn into the CG because one of those giant windmill blades was coming in the other direction. There is a church down the road with a huge parking lot to turn around. Once inside, the park looked nice. But WOW! These are the closest, tightest spots I have ever seen in a KOA. If the park had been full, I could not have extended my slide. It hung halfway over the next site's table. Only about 1 in 3 sites had room for a fire ring. We camped at Newton KOA in a Motorhome.

West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA, Gretna, Nebraska

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $68.00

As others have reported, hairpin turn getting in, tight roads in the camp, and sites are right on top of each other. Lost power during the night for just a few minutes, but that was during a heavy thunderstorm. We camped at West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The home-made pizza was very good, and you can't beat delivery to your camper door! However, the size description is misleading. Their "Large" pizza would be called medium everywhere else. Still a fair deal at the price, but we wish we had known, would have ordered 2.

Crawfordsville KOA, Crawfordsville, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We had reserved a 50-amp site, but due to another tenant mixup none were available. We received a slight discount on a 30-amp site, which was no problem. Site was slightly unlevel, but could compensate. This KOA could be beautiful, but is showing its age. Needs several loads of gravel dumped on each site; mine was more mud than stone. I like big trees and don't need satellite reception, so the grounds were good that way. Laundry room is old, machines are dated, but it was very clean. We camped at Crawfordsville KOA in a Motorhome.

Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA (formerly Heritage Hills Campgrounds, Thompson, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We actually stayed here twice, on the outbound and return legs of our trip. The first was planned, the second a last-minute change of plans due to weather. Both times the visit was pleasant and serene. On the second visit, a "computer error" put us in a new area of the campground that wasn't supposed to be open yet. The owner honored the online reservation, however, and personally escorted us to the site, and helped us set up. Gravel was still loose, needed final fill around sewer, etc. Leveling was slightly difficult, but I'm sure this would be fixed by the time the site was officially available. The brand-new bathrooms next door were sparkling clean. Yes, I would love to visit again. We camped at Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA (formerly Heritage Hills Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

As others have said, follow the GPS and use Mosely road, not the KOA sign. Cuts out almost all of the gravel road.

Indianapolis KOA, Greenfield, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

This park deserves the high ratings. Laundry was clean, horses outside were a petting bonus. The "pool" is a full-scale water park. We could not drag the kids out until hunger forced them. No extra charges for children on this Father's Day "kids stay free" weekend. Was able to get one of the last 2 available spots only 12 hours in advance on Father's Day weekend. When we were set up, noticed they were making extra room to fit in a late arrival instead of turning them away. Definitely would stay here again, and not complain about the price. We camped at Indianapolis KOA in a Motorhome.

Stanton / Meramec KOA, Stanton, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We were unhappy with the condition of this KOA. Much more run down than most. There was 1 of 4 washing machines open, but chose not to use it. The laundry room was quite musty and dank. Even the main office was musty. We were charged extra for the kids, even though nationwide KOA was advertising "kids stay free" for Father's Day weekend. The "game room" consisted of a single pool table (extra cost, of course). This is the only KOA we have been to that we would not return. We camped at Stanton / Meramec KOA in a Motorhome.

Stayed 2 nights while visiting Carlsbad Caverns. Huge gravel sites. We were right next to the pool, which the kids appreciated. Even being right there, kid noise was not noticeable. Clean laundry room. Good game room. Kind of sharp exit from the highway, but manageable. Hosts were very nice. Would stay here again. We camped at Carlsbad KOA in a Motorhome.
