Sunset King RV Resort, Defuniak Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second stay at Sunset King. Like many others, we were dodging hurricane Irma and ended-up staying for longer than we anticipated. The management went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and did a good job despite being at near 100% capacity. We were given a couple of free meals, a bag of ice from time to time, and one elderly couple (who only had a pop-up camper) was allowed to sleep in one of the buildings the night the storm passed through. I highly recommend Sunset King; good people and nice amenities. We camped at Sunset King RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Southern Comfort Campground , Cross City, Florida

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

When you pull-up to the office you may get an immediate feeling that perhaps you made a mistake. Don't worry, it gets worse. As you follow the golf cart to your lot you will see that the majority of units in the park are long term and haven't been moved in years. Lots of roofs covered with tarps and plenty of clutter; dogs and cats running free. The park is very close to the main road and the noise from it was only abated by some guy who had to rev his motorcycle from time to time. The men's restroom was terrible ... half of the commode stall walls were missing, the main door wouldn't lock, and the shower curtains had so much mold on them that I swear one of them moved. No cable TV despite advertising that they had it. The pool was closed until further notice. We camped at Southern Comfort Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Silver Springs State Park (formerly Silver River State Park), Ocala, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Silver Springs State Park turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. Beautifully maintained with modern facilities, the CG is nevertheless rustic with an old Florida feel. The restrooms are spotless and laundry facilities are available. The sites are large with reasonable privacy. No WiFi or cable TV, but plenty of TV stations are available using your antenna. Verizon cell was very strong. Only a few sites have sewers, but a free dump station is available as you leave. There is a museum on site which is open Sat and Sun. Walking trails are plentiful. The nearby water park unfortunately is closed, but the glass bottom boats are still operating. We would definitely return. We camped at Silver Springs State Park (formerly Silver River State Park) in a Travel Trailer.

Birmingham South Campground, Pelham, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was level and shaded but many others were not. About half the campground appears to be for permanent residents. The restrooms were clean. Showers also clean but quite small; getting dressed was a chore. I didn't use the WiFi, but the cable TV and cell service was adequate. Lots of room to walk your dog. Pool area looked inviting, but we did laundry instead. On-site convenience store. Overall OK, but a little pricey even with the Good Sam discount. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Travel Trailer.

John Tanner State Park, Carrollton, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

A great park to spend a couple of days or more. Family oriented with a beach, boat rental, fishing, volleyball, miniature golf and paved walking trails. Lots of day users, especially on the weekends, but not overly so. The restrooms are clean but Spartan. The actual camping area is in a gully, so getting TV with antenna is difficult. Because of all of the trees, satellite users may have a similar problem. No sewers at the sites, but a free dump station is available on the way out. Lots of shade, but sites are tight, and with only a couple of exceptions, offer no privacy. Big Rigs might do better elsewhere. WiFi is available on the office porch, as are large, comfortable rocking chairs. Dogs are OK. BTW, this park is now owned and operated by the County, not the State. Would return. We camped at John Tanner State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Grants / Cibola Sands KOA, Grants, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Small CG conveniently located next to the interstate. Friendly staff. Continental breakfast included in the rate, but nothing special; I passed. Restrooms are getting old and funky. Dog friendly with lots of room to walk a leashed dog, as well as a small fenced area to let Fido run. OK for one night, but a little pricey despite the free cookie. We camped at Grants / Cibola Sands KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated), Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Much has already been written about the beauty of the Grand Canyon, so this review is strictly for Trailer Village which is the only RV park within the Grand Canyon National Park (south rim) with electricity, sewer, water and cable TV. There is no WiFi, but it is available nearby; though we didn't really need it as our Verizon cell service was quite adequate.

The location of the RV park is its strong point, as it is an easy walk (or bicycle ride) to the South Rim and Visitors Center, as well as to a grocery store, deli, post office and a bank. While Trailer Village has clean, heated restrooms, it does not have showers or laundry, however, they too are nearby (both being coin operated).

If you don't wish to walk, you may use the free bus service which comes to the entrance approximately every half-hour. These buses loop all around GCNP and there are few places you can not access. Dogs are welcome at GCNP and Trailer Village, but not on the buses or in most of the buildings. We used the dog kennel located within the park on a day we knew we couldn't take Fido, and that worked-out just fine.

Unless you are visiting in the dead of winter, reservations are a must! We camped at Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated) in a Travel Trailer.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Canyon, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Texans call Palo Duro Canyon the "Texas Grand Canyon" for good reason. While it may not be as large as the better known Grand Canyon, it is equally as beautiful. And, unlike the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the Texas Grand Canyon allows you to drive and camp right down inside the canyon! We stayed at Palo Duro Canyon State Park for two nights - the first at the Juniper campground, the second at Hackberry. Juniper is almost new with spacious sites and beautiful, spotlessly clean restrooms. It is definitely worth the extra couple of dollars to stay there. Hackberry was older, with the RVs closer and average restrooms. Both locations have abundant wildlife (roadrunners, turkeys, etc.) and fantastic views. While there are plenty of campers at Palo Duro, the park is also used by many locals during the day. Weekends are particularly busy, but not overly so. Make reservations and bring your dog. Remember, you 're in a big hole so there is limited cellphone and no WI-Fi or cable TV. If you are anywhere near the Texas panhandle, though, spending a couple of days here should definitely be on your bucket list of things to do. Highly recommended! We camped at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Poverty Point Reservoir State Park, Delhi, Louisiana

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We spent two nights at Poverty Point while traveling west. The grounds are in great shape and very well maintained. Paved roads and big rig friendly. The restrooms were newer and extremely clean. The park is family friendly with plenty to keep the kids busy including a small water park! The hiking trails were in kinda rough shape, but perhaps it was because of all the rain they had been having. Bring a boat, there is a great marina and boat ramps. Pet friendly. We would definitely return. We camped at Poverty Point Reservoir State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Consider using the camping area without sewers. Its cheaper and the spacing between RVs is greater. You can dump on the way out.

A+ RV Park, Alvord, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

A great place for a one night stop-over. Everything is neat and clean and the CG is carefully attended to by an owner who apparently lives nearby. The only drawback is the two rest-rooms. Yes, they are spotlessly clean, but they only accommodate one person at a time. If the CG is full, you may have to take a number. To make matters worse the laundry is in the rest-rooms. BTW, the laundry is free to paying guest. Pets OK with plenty of room to walk them. Would visit again. We camped at A+ RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sunset King RV Resort, Defuniak Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We used Sunset King as a one night stop-over on our way west. It's about 10-15 minutes off of I-10, which is a bit of a draw-back. Friendly staff was able to direct us to a nice pull-though for the night. Cable and Wi-Fi worked just fine. No transient spots on the lake; this seem to be for cabins and full-timers. Small store sells essentials, ice, etc. Pets OK. A good place for a longer stay, but you could probably find something more cost effective if you are looking for just one night. We camped at Sunset King RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tenkiller State Park, Vian, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nicely maintained state park with reasonably clean restrooms and showers. Several different camping areas within the park - some with more services and higher cost than others. Premium sites are even more, and the quoted rate does not include a utility surcharge which can almost double your cost, in some cases. The park is surrounded by water but, unfortunately, except for a handful of places, you would hardly know it. The State has apparently decided to allow the foliage to grow wild along the shorelines, and in most places, it totally obscures the view. No water views from the campgrounds. Plenty of walking trails and a good place to visit if you bring a boat. Swimming, Frisbee golf, etc available. Very family friendly; pets OK. Bring bug spray - we were there in May and the ticks were horrible! We camped at Tenkiller State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Delta Ridge RV Park, Inc., Forrest City, Arkansas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

A good spot for a quick over-niter, but bring your own restroom and shower. None available here. What this nothing fancy park lacks, however, its location makes up for in spades. Easy walking distance to a full service grocery store, auto parts store, restaurants and gas stations. Easy on/off the interstate and big rigs fit just fine. Friendly, helpful owner. Call ahead as the park is small and they often fill-up. Would return. We camped at Delta Ridge RV Park, Inc. in a Travel Trailer.

Sky City RV Park, Acoma, New Mexico

Overall Rating:

A great overnight stop. The clubhouse and facilities look like brand new and are extremely neat and spotlessly clean. Contrary to other postings the facility now seems to have an attendant - at least during the day. Enjoy the restaurant and facilities at the hotel/casino if you wish; it's an easy walk or they will send a van to pick you up. Sit outside and enjoy the mountain views to the north. Oddly, there are not picnic tables at the sites. A great value. We camped at Sky City RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great stop-over location for the night, especially if your tired and don't want to cook. The RV park is at the side of a restaurant that specializes in catfish - and the food is excellent!
