Meadville KOA, Meadville, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We went here with less than 24 hours notice due to our other destination being flooded. They had site available for us and friends and were very accommodating on such short notice. Sites we a bit dirty with lots of leave and branches down on the ground. Surface was a mix of gravel, dirty and grass. Our picnic table was very weathered and dirty. We were escorted to our site and offered assistance to back in. Campground is large compared to the number of sites. Lots of room to walk, including a trail that goes out around the back of the campground. Campground is close to many local attractions if you want to get out for a while. We were not given a print out of weekend activities at check in and learned after the fact of the wagon rides, bingo, fishing contests and jump pillow. Mini golf course is in disrepair and should be $1 or free considering. We camped at Meadville KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Waterside Campground, Lewistown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

I was leery of this place based on the previous reviews, but decided to give it a try since most reviews were older than 2 years. We were not disappointed. Our sites were level and clean and quite spacious. Even the fire pit was cleaned out. Yes there were trains, but they are not that close to the campground and not that noticeable. Maybe 3 or 4 pass per hour. If it bothers you, sleep with the fan on. Most sites are seasonal. Everyone was friendly and there were numerous golf carts, but not obnoxious. We had no problem with noisy people past quiet time. Pool looked clean, but we did not use it. If you have a slide, it may take some maneuvering to back in so that you have close access to the hookups and still be able to put the slide out. We would definitely return to this campground. We camped at Waterside Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Go on the canal ride. It is not mentioned, but you get off the boat and walk down a path to view a 250-300 year old Sycamore tree that is about 28ft in circumference. Ride takes less than an hour and is free to campers.

Woodland Campground, Woodland, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a smaller park. All sites are on a slight hill, but the sites themselves are nearly level. Sites are gravel with some grass. A lot of the sites are buddy sites where you are awning to awning with your neighbor so, unless you are camping with a friend, it could be a little awkward. Pond was clean and bluegill were easy to catch. Dog park was clean. Water was probably the best we've experienced, no odor or off color. There is a nice hiking trail in the woods around the grounds. We camped at Woodland Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Hickory Hollow Campground, Rockwood, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Hickory Hollow is a nice little park. Transient sites are separate from the permanent sites. It was fairly quiet, but we were here off season. The bathhouse was very clean, though a bit of a hike uphill from the lower sites. The entire campground was clean, even the dog park. Water was clean. Our initial site (105) had the water too far from our fresh water hook up and we did not have enough hose. They were kind enough to let us pull across to another site. All sites seemed to be pretty level. We camped at Hickory Hollow Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground is close to 2 covered bridges, state parks and the Great Allegheny Passage. 2 miles down the road is an excellent pizza place. We had to drive there to order as we had no Sprint service. There is also a Family Dollar near the pizza place.

Austin Lake RV Park and Cabins, Toronto, Ohio

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Yes there is so much to do here. We stayed 3 nights and did not get to do all that we wanted. My GPS had no issues getting us there. There are several signs directing you which way to go. Yes the road to the campground is not ideal. It is paved, but bumpy and windy. This is a public road and no fault of the campground. Leaving, we encountered a big rig coming in. No problem if you both pull over and let the other pass slowly. In the campground itself, the roads are narrow so again, pull over and let the other pass. The owner was super nice and appreciative that we stayed at his campground. Our site sat back off the road and had plenty of grassy area in front. Site was level with gravel where you park the trailer and a stamped concrete patio. Negatives - Bathhouses are spaced out. Each loop has a bathroom, but they are like outhouses. There was air in our water line so the pressure was not the greatest. The other couple with us in the next site had the same issue. Sometimes the cold water would come out hot for a bit. None of this would keep us from returning. We camped at Austin Lake RV Park and Cabins in a Travel Trailer.

Dogwood Acres Campground, Newville, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

Dogwood Acres is a small campground, I think about 100 sites. The owners are very nice and helpful. You can tell they really take pride in the campground. We were escorted to our site then guided into backing in. That was nice! The site was fairly level. This was the first time we camped on gravel. I did not mind. It was clean as was the entire campground. Most sites are well shaded. It was so hot they kept the pool open later and even had an adult swim so that was an added bonus. We camped at Dogwood Acres Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Friendship Village Campground , Bedford, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

This was our first trip to the campground and we will definitely return! Even though it is a big park and full this weekend, it never felt crowded. The staff is very nice and they are very laid back. Everything was clean and well kept. There are plenty of activities. This is the first campground where prior to quiet time, hardly anyone is to be seen, so it was very quiet. Except there is a major highway overpass near the section that we were in. The road noise and truck traffic was awful, but it would not deter us from coming back to the same site. Next time, we need to run the a/c fan all night to drown out the noise. I was afraid there would be a lot of golf cart traffic, but that was not the case. Checking in was a bit crowded as there is no where to park except on the entry road. I recommend using their express check-in so you can go right to your site first. Our site was very flat so there was little leveling to do. And it was easy to back in to. There is a grassy parking area across from the site that made it easy to back in. We camped at Friendship Village Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Wolf's Camping Resort, Knox, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Before staying, I had read the reviews about all the golf cart traffic and dismissed them since the reviews were old. But nothing has changed. We could not go more than 90 seconds without a golf cart whizzing by. Many were driven by underage children. The traffic continued past quiet hours. This was off season so I can't even imagine how bad it is during peak. There is lots of road noise from I-80, but it seemed to be quieter at night and on the weekend. Only half the pond is accessible shore line and you feel like you are in the backyard of the permanent sites. You have to back in sites 66-58. The permanent sites across the road have fences and other barriers up that you have to maneuver around to get in site. Our TT is 24ft and we where across from a side road so we could easily back in, but the people in sites around us in bigger rigs had a heck of a time backing in. There was lots of room to walk the dogs. The view from on top the hill near the entrance is amazing! We camped at Wolf's Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Pioneer Park Campground, Somerset, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here twice in 2016. I believe our sites were 106 and 13. 106 is way in the back of the campground and 13 is near the pool. Both site were on a slight grade. 106 was a bit trickier to set up on. There is plenty to do on site and in the area. Laurel Hill State Park is a short drive as is Somerset PA. At the campground, the hiking trails are hilly, but secluded so a nice place to walk my dogs as was the rest of the campground. Mini-golf was nice as was the pool. And they have a nice fenced in off leash dog area. You have to buy a permit daily to fish in the ponds. I think it was $7 and you are not allowed to fish past 8 PM so that was a negative. We camped at Pioneer Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

On Saturdays, there are a few local produce stands and a farmers market in Somerset. We ate a diner in Somerset that had excellent food. Be sure to check out the discount store in Somerset also. There is also an RV dealer not far from the campground should you need something. If you like to hike, Laurel Hill State Park is close by and has all sorts of paths.
