Dead Horse Point State Park, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Yes, $40 a night for an electric only site is high but this park has so much going for it. I would have given it a 10 if they had water. The park has paved roads and sites that are wide enough for bigger rigs. We stayed in #32 and it was more than long enough for our 43'er and truck. The staff at the visitor center is excellent. You have a covered picnic table and fire pit at every site. We are going back again in the spring and will stay longer. There are too many great parks within driving distance to list. We only hit Arches and Dead Horse Point in this 2 days stay. Note that if you stay here, you must come with water on board. It is scarce at the park. We camped at Dead Horse Point State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pony Express RV Resort, North Salt Lake, Utah

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

We are halfway through a month long stay here. We have found this to be a well managed and cared for RV park. As others have said, it is not a quiet rural location. You'll hear traffic and airport noise. We did not find it annoying or bothersome. The Park's road are well paved and wide making navigation easy. We had a premium pull thru and we're glad we did. It fit our truck on the parking pad and our 43' tour hauler and both motorcycles with ease. WiFi was OK but we upgraded to the premium service dues to telecommuting work needs. There is a full array of stores just to the north plus a Flying J. We'll be back when in this area. We camped at Pony Express RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Prairie Oasis Campground and Cabins, Henderson, Nebraska

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Traveling I-80 has made me wary of highway campground. This was different. While still very close to the highway it was set back so that the road noise was very muted inside our unit. Hosts were wonderful folks who made us feel welcomed and appreciated. All sites appear to be pull thrus including ours which had to be 80' long. We were able to park our 43' toy hauler, disconnect and park our truck in front and drop our rear patio without blocking the road at all. Site was level and reasonably spaced to the next spot. Wifi was fast and reliable. I had 2 bars of Verizon LTE service. We camped at Prairie Oasis Campground and Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.

Newton KOA , Newton, Iowa

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here overnight on a trip down I-80. Like many campgrounds along the highway, it was close. I could have thrown a stone onto the highway. The campground was set up with mostly pull-thru sites. We were assigned a site at check in but was advised to use a different site when we got into the campground so we would have more space. Sites were close and there was a neighbor on the front of our assigned site so changing was good. The campground was empty enough that this was possible. If it were full, campers would be terribly close. Verizon service was good. The campground wifi was adequate. The login page continue an note about bandwidth usage being limited. We did not test the policy. Out rig is a 43' fifth wheel and we got in and out easily. There is fuel service at a truck stop at this exit as well. We camped at Newton KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

South Bend / Elkhart North KOA, Granger, Indiana

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a few days while my truck was serviced at a local dealer. Staff was excellence and friendly. Always pleasant and helpful. Sites were clean and well organized. While the sites were not spaced a great distance apart the space was very well used and made for pleasant camping. Campground was only about one third full while we were there I believe even if full the space would be adequate. Laundry on premises was handy as we had been traveling for a week. Roads were fairly well maintained and wide enough that maneuvering my fifth wheel was not a problem. There is a nearby train track that is somewhat busy during the day but traffic stops at night. We will keep this campground in mind and will likely return. We camped at South Bend / Elkhart North KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Rustic Acres RV Resort and Campground, Shippenville, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I will preface this by saying I have large rig (43' 20,000 lb. fifth wheel). When I called I advised them of my size and was told I could be accommodated. We arrived and we taken by cart to our intended site. Due to recent rains access was difficult (no fault of the campground-we all must deal with the elements). We made a plan but ended up on a different site when we were unable to navigate some of the backing maneuvers due to clearance. We actually took up two back in sites but used them as a pull thru. The staff was completely accommodating and good to work with. We had a pleasant night despite even more rain. When we went to leave we were able to make the turns to get to the road out however there was a very steep grade. Road surface was asphalt with loose stone covering it. I had my truck ( a dually) in 4WD and still managed to spin tires. I was concerned for a moment that we'd need a tow but we made it. They say they are big rig friendly but proceed with care if you are large. Smaller rigs would do fine. We camped at Rustic Acres RV Resort and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Timothy Lake Campground South - Thousand Trails, East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here to start our winter escape from New England. As Thousand Trails members our site we free. There were a fairly large number of sites to pick from and they were plenty long. However several park roads were very tight for maneuvering our 43' fifth wheel. We were saddened that the attendant in the office at the time of our visit was less than helpful. All in all, we'll stay here again on our return. We camped at Timothy Lake Campground South - Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

Megunticook Campground, Rockport, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This was the second year we had stayed here during the North Atlantic Blues Festival. We had reserved pull thru site #5 after walking around to pick a site last year before we left. In general the sites are a bit small and close for larger trailers and coaches. Site #5 offered a small plot of greenery on the front side of our camper giving us a bit of extra space. Length of the sites was adequate but not spacious for our 35 foot 5'er. The location is terrific. They are right on the ocean with cabins and tent sites that nearly overlook the water. Pull thru sites were on the front side and close to Route 1. There was a lot of traffic noise. My wife showered in the rest room. They were free and clean and this had been a busy weekend (near capacity). I noted that the roads in the campground were tight. We had challenges a couple times getting in and out due to parked cars. We were there for a festival weekend so this probably is not typical. We camped at Megunticook Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Owls Head Transportation Museum or come for the Blues Festival. On the coast of Maine, don't leave without Lobster & Clams. If you are a beer geek considered the Rock Harbor Brewery in Rockland or Threshers Brewing in Searsmont.
