Rushing River Provincial Park, Kenora, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

A few kilometers south of the intersection of Highway 71/17. Stunning location, and taking about a 2km hike will provide even more picture opportunities. Do not confuse the Ontario Parks system with the US State Parks system - they have different goals, and different pricing. Mix of site types from treed to open. Washrooms are clean, as are showers. As per all Ontario Provincial Parks, fill your rig with water on the way in, and dump on the way out (although water is also available throughout the campground) We camped at Rushing River Provincial Park in a Travel Trailer.

Thunder Bay KOA, Shuniah, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Park was closer to Trans Canada than I had expected, although it was quite enough at night. Fantastic-looking playground for kids, but due to weather, we were unable to let the kids play. Showers and laundry were clean, and of sufficient quantity. Sites were a little close together for my liking. We camped at Thunder Bay KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Superior Provincial Park - Agawa Bay Campground, Wawa, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed one night in the North Campground, in a site that backed onto the highway (yes, it's the Trans-Canada and trucks do go by throughout the night). Site was large, beautiful and private. Thankfully had extension cord for my 30AMP as the plug was at the front of the site - but I knew this when I booked online. The park itself is stunning, right on Lake Superior. The site was on the side "away" from the lake, but it was still only 100 steps to the Lake. In terms of view, this park is a jewel, and worth every penny. Like all Ontario Parks, you need to fill your with water on the way in if you want, and dump on the way out - but that's not an issue whatsoever. We camped at Lake Superior Provincial Park - Agawa Bay Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Best to do your shopping well before you get to the park, as there are a few camp stores somewhat nearby, but they're pricier with fewer total conveniences. Do not try to equate the Ontario Park System with US State parks - they're very different in goals, and also in price.

Cedar Grove Trailer Park, Whitefish, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed one night. Park isn't highly technical - no email, no credit card machine, and had some challenges contacting them. They advised in advance that they were a cash-only place, so I was prepared for that. They had somewhat "lost" my reservation when I arrived. There is an EXTRA fee for dumping, which I did not know about - some sites appear to have sufficient location for grey water at a trickle, at least. Facilities are VERY old, but washrooms and showers were functional and as clean as possible. The lake looked very good. There were a few swings in the "playground" although one of the infant swings was missing a part. The park could use at least 1 more sign on the way in to advise you that you're on the right road. Appears to be mainly seasonal campers, and as such, we never felt truly "welcome". We camped at Cedar Grove Trailer Park in a Travel Trailer.

Willow Lake Campground and RV Park, Woodstock, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This park became a Good Sam's partner after we booked, and the owners were fantastic about the retroactive discount. The majority of the roads are gravel, and that's fine. There's a mix of pull-through and back-in sites, all of good size. A number of the sites have a raised and bricked "patio" - which was a blessing after the wet summer we have had. Pool was sparkling, and wonderfully warm. Washrooms and showers were well taken care of - there's a real pride of ownership here. We checked in after the office closed, and the owner popped over about 30 minutes later to ensure everything was okay. Would stay here again. We camped at Willow Lake Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

There's not a lot to do in Woodstock, but it's a big enough city to have most things that you need - multiple grocery stores, Walmart, etc.

Sand Lake Campground & Cottages, Elgin, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Sand Lake is a fairly small campground, right on Sand Lake. It's a short 700m down a gravel road so no issues there. Owners were able to get us fairly last-minute into a site for a long-weekend. It's mostly seasonal campers, with about 8 overnight spots. The owners are fantastic - helpful and friendly. Sites are fairly close together, separated by a wooden fence and a tree here and there. Our site was WET: in their defense, it's been raining almost non-stop since spring, so that was not a huge surprise. Showers were clean, washroom was filled with bugs as people seem to leave the door open overnight. Overnight sites do not have sewer, but there is dump station on the way out. I did need to pick up a second freshwater hose to reach. I would stay here again. We camped at Sand Lake Campground & Cottages in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

You're about 30 minutes from either Smith's Falls or Kingston. Yes, there's a village close (either Elgin or Portland) but shopping there is limited. Being right on the lake is fantastic, and there are 2 docks if you're bringing a boat.
