Chimney Park RV Resort, Mission, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We booked a winter stay but when we arrived, we were disappointed. The pool was no bigger than a large jacuzzi, the levee was stained concrete which backed half of the sites, Border Patrol helicopters all night long plus Border Patrol vehicles driving back and forth on top of the levee all night long right above the sites. Very narrow sites with cracked small patios. We did not stay and would not recommend. We camped at Chimney Park RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Jim Hogg Park COE, Georgetown, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Really a nice COE. Could use a bit updating but as is the case today, funding has been cut for some government agencies. Sites are nicely spaced and about half have nice water views. Even though the campground is right outside of town, you still feel like you are in the woods. Will definitely return when in the area. We camped at Jim Hogg Park COE in a Motorhome.

Wilson H Fox COE, Granger, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Great spacing between sites but no views of the lake at all even though we booked a site next to the lake. Swimming beach was closed, fishing dock was closed. We booked a 2 week stay but with nothing to look at and very far from town, we left after 4 days. Maintenance was just ok. A long drive into the campground. Would not return. We camped at Wilson H Fox COE in a Motorhome.

Cedar Ridge COE, Temple, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Nicely maintained park. This campground is on a finger of the lake which is very quiet. No access to the lake from the campground and the swimming beach was closed. Plenty of deer roaming the campground. Very secure place with each loop having its own gate. Level sites with nice spacing. Will definitely return when in the area. We camped at Cedar Ridge COE in a Motorhome.

Lofers Bend West, Whitney, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This COE campground is not very well maintained. It appears to need a good mowing with tall grass/weeds growing throughout the park. Even the playground area was in dire need of mowing. The sites which are gravel and grass are fairly spacious but a lot of them are uneven. Our campsite 67, beside the lake along with 5 others, were in a fenced area which was a bit mysterious. In looking at the other sites in this area, ours appeared to be the most level with a nice big tree which offered some shade There is no swimming beach as of this review although the day use area close to the park entrance was under construction so would assume there will be a beach in the future. Lots of nature watching here with white egrets making a nightly journey to bird island just up the lake from the campground, cranes, turtles and deer running through the park. We were invaded by ants in our motor home, something that we have never experienced. While the maintenance was disappointing, we did enjoy our site by the lake watching the egrets and the beautiful sunsets. Not sure we would return. We camped at Lofers Bend West in a Motorhome.

Burns Run West, Cartwright, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is the biggest COE campground on Lake Texoma. The grounds are very well maintained but the sites are very close together except the full hookup sites away from the lake in the trees. Our site, B11, was right on the water but with no direct access. It was somewhat shaded and although very close to our next door neighbors, was very nice with table and fire pit. The swimming beach is very nice near the entrance to the campground and there is another beach area near the sites, although its location on a major part of the lake would make it difficult to swim due to boat traffic and waves. We were there for Labor Day weekend when the campground was full but once folks left, there were very few campers and it was very quiet. We would return to this campground again when in the area. The sites along the road in the B area are very close together but right on the water. One complaint was that people drove their vehicles way too fast on that stretch of road by those sites. Would suggest the campground put in some speed bumps. We camped at Burns Run West in a Motorhome.

Tall Chief Cove COE, Skiatook, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great COE. Besides most of the campsites in all 3 loops either being lakeside or across the road with a lake view, it has tons of things to do. Loads of well maintained green space, horseshoe pits, basketball court, playground, baseball diamond, volleyball net, boat launch, swimming beach along with frisbee golf. Most lakeside sites had direct entry into the water and the sites were nicely spaced. Some sites had loads of shade while others had some shade. Most sites had covered patios and all had a fire pit, grill and picnic table. Lake is clean and great for swimming, boating and fishing. We will definitely return to Tall Chief Cove when returning to the area. This campground is right up there in our favorite COE's. We camped at Tall Chief Cove COE in a Motorhome.

Great shopping in Owasso only 20 miles away with every store imaginable. Best laundromat we have ever used on the road...the Owasso Laundromat...sparkling clean, new machines, nice attendants. Tulsa is only 35-40 minutes away.

Coon Creek COE, Ponca City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the nicest, quietest COE's we have stayed at. The sites are level, spacious, grounds immaculately kept with huge expanses of open space for kids and adults to play. All the sites are either on the water (although the water level was down at the time of our stay) with huge trees for shade or with views of the water. Restrooms and showers were immaculate and cleaned daily. The host/maintenance team was outstanding, helpful and friendly. The campground gets full on weekends but during our 2 week stay, there were only a handful of campers. Ponca City, only a few miles away, has everything you need and has a history of its own. The only negative about this campground is that there are a lot of spiders, but of course you are in the great outdoors and that is their playground! We will definitely return when in the area for another great stay. We camped at Coon Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Elk Creek Campground , Gunnison, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

The campground sits on the largest reservoir in Colorado and easily accessible from the highway. Sites are somewhat spacious and only those in the D loop have electric, no water. Water spigots are available by the restrooms or the dump station. The best sites are those without electric which sit closer to the reservoir although almost all of the sites have a view. There are showers near the launch ramp but they are $3.00 for 10 minutes and some stalls were out of order (did not use). Landscape is mostly scrub with very few trees. If you boat and/or fish, this is a great place. No swimming as elevation is well over 7,000 feet. We camped at Elk Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Beautiful part of Colorado. Crested Butte is only 27 miles away, Black Canyon on the Gunnison is about 50 miles away, town of Gunnison has tons of restaurants and shops. Really a nice downtown area. Great grocery shopping at the City Market? Walmart is very small but adequate.

Riana Abiquiu Lake COE, Abiquiu, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the nicest, if not the nicest, COE campgrounds we have ever stayed in. The location is awesome and the scenery breathtaking. This is a magical, mystical place with tons of places to visit. First and foremost, the host is wonderful, accommodating, helpful and friendly. She truly is the best! The campground sits above Abiquiu Lake and all the sites have a great view of the lake. Sites are paved, large and well spaced with picnic table, fire pit, grill and gazebo. There are only 15 sites with electric and water and the remaining sites have no hook ups. Hiking trails are numerous and easy to follow. Because the lake was lower than usual, entrance to the swimming beach was rocky. We originally had 9 days booked but once we arrived and settled in, we extended our stay for another 5 days. If we could have stayed beyond the 14 day limit, we would have! We will return again and again. We camped at Riana Abiquiu Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Tetilla Peak, Pena Blanca, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older COE on the opposite side of Cochiti Lake from the main Cochiti Lake campground. The view is beautiful but this campground needs some long required TLC. In addition, the long ride into the campground has many huge potholes on both sides of the road. The town of Cochiti Lake has a golf course but only a convenience store, gas station and laundromat so the only shopping is in Santa Fe, some 35 miles plus away. The roads in the campground are all gravel as are all the sites. This could be a really nice quiet place if some clean up was done and the road repaired. We camped at Tetilla Peak in a Motorhome.

The Palms RV Resort, Yuma, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 6 months starting 11/1/17 and took advantage of their first timers discount of 6 months for the 3 month rate. This is the nicest RV resort we have ever stayed in. The sites are spacious with a paved patio, the grounds are immaculate, tons of things to do, a restaurant and bar poolside, designated lap pool plus large pebbletec play pool, barbecues every other weekend with bands, concerts...just a spectacular place. We will definitely stay again for the winter months! We camped at The Palms RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Yuma is a great city. We had stayed in Surprise the previous 2 winters and Yuma has it beat hundredfold. Close to Los Algodones for dental and vision work, great places to eat including a little fish taco stand in the Yuma Foothills on Fortuna Blvd right off I-8. Walmart is close by, other chain grocery stores including Sprouts which we love.

Cattlerest RV Park and Saloon, Willcox, Arizona

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We just did an overnight at this campground. Located on the outskirts of Willcox close to I-10. The manager was friendly and accommodating and apparently it is known for its saloon but the campground is nothing much. It served its purpose for one night which is what we needed. We camped at Cattlerest RV Park and Saloon in a Motorhome.

Leasburg Dam State Park, Radium Springs, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This is a little gem in southwestern New Mexico. Nice spacious campsites, covered picnic tables, concrete pads, water and electric, nice hiking trails. The camp hosts are friendly and the campground is well maintained. The only problem we had was at the dump station when we left. It was full and we could not dump. Other than making sure the dump station worked, our stay was very nice and if in the area again, we would definitely return. We camped at Leasburg Dam State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Only 30 miles to Hatch, the pepper capital in the country. Had a wonderful lunch at The Pepper Pot which was featured in The Food Network Magazine. Cute town with pepper fields as far as the eye can see plus interesting shops that sell some incredible salsas. Definitely a "go to" destination.

Monahans Sandhills State Park, Monahans, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

This is probably a great place for kids to slide down the sand hills as a novelty, but as a campground it's little more than a road with motor homes and travel trailers parked alongside it. Very little spacing between sites, no privacy. The posted rate is $15.00 per night but there is an additional $4.00 charge for each person in your motor home or travel trailer as a day use charge. You can hear traffic from the interstate and railroad. You cannot reserve a specific site on the state park website but you are assigned a spot when you arrive. One of the pull through sites had standing water but no one corrected it as it was assigned the 2 days that we camped there. We would not return to this campground. We camped at Monahans Sandhills State Park in a Motorhome.
