Hoot Owl Hollow Campground, Dubuque, Iowa

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Great small park. Good hook ups. My site was a back in and only used a couple of leveling blocks. . pretty level. Rained the entire time, most unusual for this time of year. The owner/manager was a pleasure to deal with. Will definitely stay here when I return to Dubuque, unless it is full. We camped at Hoot Owl Hollow Campground in a Motorhome.

Rio Chama RV Park, Chama, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Located by the Chama river and the C&TS railroad bridge over the river amid cottonwoods. It is a basic, no frills park in a beautiful setting with friendly, helpful staff. This is not an "RV resort" experience kind of rv park, but I gave it a 10 because it has all I need and is an excellent value and the ambience can not be beat. I had a level, 30 amp site and didn't use showers/restrooms. First time back for me in many years and it is still the wonderful place I remember. Chama is all about scenery, outdoors and coal fired narrow gauge steam railroading and this is the best park, by far, to experience that. We camped at Rio Chama RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Go down to the rail yards in the evening after the train has returned. Walk around among the steaming locomotives and rolling stock and equipment and experience the sights, smells, sounds and feel of a bygone era and ride the train.

Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA, Bernalillo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This is the finest KOA value for the money I have found. I have a KOA card and am retired military so I'm not sure how much of a discount I got but it was significant. On a weekly rate for the last 5 days I was there it was about$37/night. For the preceding 30 days the monthly rate with discounts came out to around $16/day. It doesn't get better than that. The staff was friendly and helpful, as was the owner. The location is north of Albuquerque in the town of Bernalillo, where I used to live which made it an excellent location for me. Definitely will be my "go to" location when I return to the area. The space was long enough for my short RV with a side space for my jeep. We camped at Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Range Café in Bernalillo is an excellent place to eat close by. The Rail Runner makes two stops in Bernalillo and goes to Santa Fe or into Albq. Blakes on Hwy 550 is a good place for breakfast burritos and burgers. Best breakfast burritos bar none are in Albq at the Frontier and Golden Pride. Up scale northern NM cuisine is El Pinto on the north end of 4th street.
