Tilly's American Travelers RV Resort, Oronoco, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

No complaints, mind you. But the "Resort" in the listing's name is a misnomer. Tilly's is a "park" in the strictest sense of the word - as in, almost all that is there is a place to park your camper. BUT it DOES have the essentials. Power, water, sewer. It also has a pay for use shower, two washing machines and one dryer. It is unattended and you pay on the honor system or the threat is they'll switch off your power and lock your power pole with your cord attached. That seems to inspire people to pay up. Campers are parked on sites of gravel mixed in with the sod. But it works. We stayed through an all day rain and neither our jacks or tires left an imprint. The access roads are mostly asphalt. There seems to be plenty of room to navigate within the park, however, entry is gained through the parking lot of the unassociated Tilly's Bar and Grill. Don't worry. Although it was a popular spot each night it never got loud or roudy. IF YOU USE THIS PARK - Basically it is first come, first served. Unless you have communicated with the management and they have told you to park in a certain lot. Don't stop at the bar. They are not part of the park. Proceed to enter the park and find a spot. If there aren't any chairs or traffic cones "saving" a site, go ahead and take it. Then go inside the park building, find the office, fill out the paperwork and stuff it and your cash payment in the envelope. Then slip the envelope under the office door. That's it. You are registered. From all the research we did July 2017 of RV parks near Rochester, MN it appears that Tilly's is fairly priced for the convenience of being the closest with full hook ups to all of the services available in Rochester. Would we stay there again? "You Betcha!" (It's a Minnesota phrase) That is if our purpose as with this trip was to be as close to Rochester services as possible. We camped at Tilly's American Travelers RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Winterset City Campground and RV Park, Winterset, Iowa

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We were looking for a place to plug our A/C in overnight and this city park filled the bill nicely. Only draw back was that we were told it was full by the camp host. Turns out one slot was reserved and prepaid for the next night. Not the night we needed it. So we took it, paid the honor box and watched four other rigs drive by, no doubt wishing they had beat us to it. The community is a nice quiet Iowa city. The entrance to the city RV park is not well posted and "Miss Garmin" led us down a dead end street requiring us to unhook the toad and back up a block. Then we cruised through the city park and found no signs for the entrance to the RV camp we could clearly see from our slow drive through the park. Finally my bride of 32 years took off with the car and searched out the entrance a couple of blocks away. Of the 34 sites 20 are full hookups. The site we got was one of the 10 with admittedly limited services. No sewer. Water spigot was shared between two sites. But the power pole had 20/30/50 amp service. Parking was on a firm base of gravel. All roads were good gravel with plenty of room to turn. The site was deep enough to back our 36 ft class A into and still have room to park our Chevy Equinox in front of the RV. The park itself is quiet. All you hear is crickets. We would stay here again if we were passing through the area, and our arrival was early enough in the day to be able to grab a spot. We camped at Winterset City Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Watch for signs for the Ball Field. The RV Park shares the entrance off the county road heading North out of town.

Tiell park Campground (formerly St. James City Park Camp), Saint James, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We have been impressed by how much effort my home town has put into making this small campground a great value for the traveling and visiting public. Since there are so few, let me list the CONS first: 1. No reservations. First come, first served. Since we were coming all the way from KS I sent a relative an extra night's payment and they filled out the paperwork and parked one of their vehicles in a spot for us. We feel it was a legit move as we paid for the spot for three nights. 2. No WIFI, No Cable. PROS: 1. It is on the lake! Our windshield and side windows had a great view of the peaceful vista. 2. It had all the necessary services - Good water pressure, choice of 20/30/50 amp 120v which was phased correctly and steady, sewer (what can you say about sewer? It worked). 3. Had a half dozen free airwave channels. 4. Lot's to do within walking distance Community Pool. Fishing Dock. Boat Launch Ramp. Short walk around end of lake to huge city park with volley ball pits, playground equipment, picnic shelters and tables. 5. Did I mention? It is right on the lake! Okay. I moved to Kansas and I miss Minnesota's 10,000 lakes. We camped at Tiell park Campground (formerly St. James City Park Camp) in a Motorhome.
