Lake Arrowhead State Park, Wichita Falls, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

An older Texas State Park with very little shade other than from mesquite trees. The sites are fairly level, with a concrete patio and covered picnic table which did provide some shade. It was too hot to walk any of the hiking trails, but we did enjoy watching the prairie dogs and looking at the birds on the lake. The rangers were very helpful and friendly. We camped at Lake Arrowhead State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Twin Fountains RV Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Easily accessible to I-35 and I-44, but the close proximity to I-44 does mean quite a bit of noise, however this was muted by the AC fan. The pads are all concrete and pretty level, but the park is quite hilly and our tow vehicle was on a steep upward incline, so backing up to the hitch was not as easy as usual. We did use the pool, which was very clean, as are the restrooms and shower. Check in was very efficient, and all the staff were very helpful. We had some issues with our trailer and asked the concierge for recommendations for a mobile RV service; we were pleasantly surprised to learn that the park has an on-site technician, who was with us within 15 minutes and diagnosed the problem quickly, but was unable to undertake a major repair. His charge was very reasonable. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay here again if in the area. We camped at Twin Fountains RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Natural Falls State Park, West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great state park with pull through and back in sites that can accommodate big rigs, but not many with full hook ups. The sites are level, concrete pads with plenty of shade. The park has several hiking trails, a disc golf course and a pretty terraced garden, but the main attraction is the 77' waterfall and dripping springs. It is easily accessed from Hwy 412. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and there is a park host in the camping area for after-hours concerns. We camped at Natural Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Branson Shenanigans RV Park, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This park is a true gem! Located on the Yellow Route, minutes from the main drag, the park is an oasis from the madness that is Branson. We were greeted at the gate by the owner, who escorted us to our site and even offered to help set up. The park is set on a steep hill, but the terraced, gravel sites are level and very accessible. We enjoyed sitting on our shady deck, watching the birds, and relaxing. The bathroom and laundry facilities, like all other aspects of the park, are spotless and well maintained. The hosts are perfect and go the extra mile to ensure their guests have a perfect stay. We camped at Branson Shenanigans RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Be wary if you buy show tickets from a Visitor's Bureau in Branson or online; most of these ticket outlets are high pressure sales pitches for timeshares. The owners of the park can get discounted tickets and if ordered earlier enough, they will be delivered to your site.

Lebanon/Bennett Spring KOA (formerly Oak Hills Campground), Lebanon, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This is listed in the KOA book as a new park. While it may be new to KOA, it is a very old park and needs lots of work to get up to scratch. The roads and sites are gravel, but many are grassed over and hard to see. The office was closed when we arrived at 1pm and we got no response from the telephone number taped to the door. We waited about 20 minutes until someone showed up and we were given our site and got set up, only to have to move after the electric power was severed during sewer repair at an adjacent site. We were relocated to a supposed pull through site right by the road with lots of traffic noise and could only get out by backing up because a bounce pad was directly in front of the site. The bath house has been recently renovated, was very clean and a pleasant surprise. Our reservation was only for 1 night; had it been for any longer, we would have moved on. We camped at Lebanon/Bennett Spring KOA (formerly Oak Hills Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA, Eureka, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This park is easily accessible from I-44 but a good 30 miles southwest of St. Louis. The staff were very friendly and helpful, providing an escort to our site. Some of the roads and sites are gravel and they produced quite a bit of dust, also the park is quite hilly. That said, our site was pretty level. This is a family friendly park, with a nice pool that can get quite crowded at times. The fresh baked cookie on arrival was a nice touch! As noted on other reviews, there is a lot of train noise. We camped at St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We were disappointed that there is so much construction around the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The museum is closed, but many exhibits have been relocated to the Old Courthouse until renovations are complete. The trip to the top of the arch is not for the faint-hearted or claustrophobic! Get tickets early or online.

Double J Campground and RV Park, Chatham, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a really nice park, easily accessible to I-55 and close to downtown Springfield. The registration staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us literature to help plan our visit to the area. We were escorted to our site and given help to position the trailer to access all the connections as the sewer was set back. The site is packed river rock and was level. The bath house in the center of the park is brand new and spotless. Although quite close to the interstate, any traffic noise was well masked by our AC. The store carries extensive RV accessories. We would stay here again without hesitation. We camped at Double J Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Abraham Lincoln museum was very good and well worth a visit. Walking through his tomb was quite moving. Whilst in Springfield, we also visited the only home he ever owned, which is now managed by the National Park Service, and again worth a visit. Lincoln's New Salem is about a 30 minute drive from the Double J and we would highly recommend going there if your time allows. We had an excellent meal at Bella Milano, an Italian restaurant about a 15 minute drive from the Double J

Kankakee South KOA, Chebanse, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Spent one night here because of the easy off/on to the interstate, to break our journey. Nice, quiet park. Escorted to our site, a level concrete pad with hook-ups easily accessible. The laundry facility was good and the pool clean. We camped at Kankakee South KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Shipshewana Campground North Park, Shipshewana, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Located at the corner of SR 5 and SR 120, with easy access from I-80/90 and roughly 4 miles north of Shipshewana, this park is a good place to stay while exploring the area. The Flea Market on Tuesdays and Wednesdays attracts a lot of visitors, creating gridlock on the town's roads, so we were glad we hadn't opted for the south campground. There are nice shaded sites, but the electrical post is shared, which can be awkward if both RVs need 30 amp plug ins. The host kindly lent us a 50 to 30 amp adapter so we could safely hook up. There is quite a lot of traffic noise, day and night, from the intersection, as this is heavily traveled by trucks going down to Elkhart. We camped at Shipshewana Campground North Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The frozen custard/ice cream stand on the property is positively addictive! The Das Dutchman Essenhaus restaurant in nearby Middlebury has the best Amish food and bakery in the area. The German Chocolate pie is to die for.

Harbortown RV Resort, Monroe, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

With easy access from I-75, this is a nice park. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and while there are lots of rules, (as previously mentioned) they are for the good of the park and help maintain the overall neatness. The back-in spaces are tight for large 5th wheel rigs, and we were delayed getting to our site by someone who had got his rig hung up in a tree while trying to park and had to be extricated by the staff. Ours was a pull-through, concrete pad, and we had no problem setting up. The roads are paved, and the laundry, pool, bathrooms etc. were very clean. It seems to be a very family oriented park. The only negatives: the park does not accept discounts (Good Sam, Passport America) in July and August, and there is quite a bit of train noise from the railroad tracks at the back of the park. We camped at Harbortown RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Streetsboro / Cleveland SE KOA, Streetsboro, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice KOA. The registration staff were very friendly and helpful, and we were escorted to our site. We didn't use any of the amenities, but the park seemed very family oriented. Our site was gravel and fairly level, but it rained every day we were there, so it got quite muddy. The park's proximity to Cuyohoga NP makes it an ideal base. There is a bit of train noise from the nearby rail line. Watch out for the large, pink painted rocks when pulling into and out of your site! Tips for other Campers:

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is well worth the drive. If you are not from the North East, look into opening an E-ZPass toll road account, which is good for several states, and acquiring the necessary transponder before leaving home. It saves time and money when traveling through Ohio on I-80. The Giant Eagle grocery store, about 2 miles east of the KOA, is great, and you can also purchase a transponder there and then open an account online.

Butler / Mohican KOA, Butler, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We were traveling along I-71 and needed to break the journey for 1 night. While this KOA is nice, it was quite a distance from the interstate, along small roads, and not as convenient as we had hoped, but that is certainly our fault! The campground is set in a beautifully forested area, and we enjoyed walking the camping loops. I would love to return and spend longer exploring the area. We camped at Butler / Mohican KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Olive Branch Campground, Oregonia, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Having read some of the other reviews, I was a little hesitant about staying here, but ours was a very different experience. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our gravel site was fairly level and across from a large grassy play area, so we had no neighbors on the right side. The area around the park is heavily wooded and set well back off the road. The park is well maintained, and the owners are renovating some of the older amenities. Our main reason to stay here was the close proximity to I-71 and also to visit Dayton, so this was a perfect place for us. The park was quiet, and while there are some seasonal campers, everything was neat and tidy. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Olive Branch Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Louisville South KOA, Shepherdsville, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

We were unable to get into the pull-through FHU site assigned to us because the people in the next site had parked a vehicle in ours and were not around to move it. While this was aggravating, it turned out to be a blessing, as we were able to upgrade to one of the few patio sites and this would certainly have been worth the extra money had the office not waived the additional fee because of the inconvenience, which we very much appreciated. The site was a fairly level, gravel site, and the concrete patio was very nice. We camped at Louisville South KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Nashville KOA, Nashville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $76.00
Overall Rating:

We arrived during a prolonged, very heavy downpour and some of the roads in the park were flooded, which made getting to our site difficult for both our escort and ourselves. We had a gravel pull-through, but could not position the trailer to avoid getting into it or out of it without going through mud. While the park cannot control the weather, it did rather spoil our visit. The staff were efficient and helpful, and the amenities available were very family friendly. The roads close to the park are very busy, especially going towards Opryland, but we didn't notice much traffic noise, probably because of the incessant rain beating down on the roof! Under better weather conditions, I think we would have enjoyed both this KOA and Nashville, but we felt the price was a bit steep. We camped at Nashville KOA in a Travel Trailer.
