Vogel State Park, Blairsville, Georgia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

What a wonderful park this was! We were on site 82 with our 25 ft travel trailer. This upper Loop is reserved for tents, pop-ups and vans only ( stated on a big sign). The interior road to get to the upper loop is pretty windy and narrow, but we pulled our camper up without a problem. Some of the sites are pretty small, but 82 was plenty long for our camper and truck. We camped at Vogel State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Cherokee Campground, Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park is very conveniently located near Helen, GA (about 6 miles to town) and about 3 miles past Unicoi State Park. There are full hook ups and WiFi/ cable at each site. The bath house is clean but definitely dated. The toilets are private only behind shower curtains. The owners live on site and are readily available if needed. He is very helpful and VERY friendly (would stop by for a 20 minute chat every time we were outside). We took several day trips to Black Rock Mountain State Park and Moccassin Creek State Park from this location (all within 35 miles from here). We camped at Cherokee Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Petit Jean State Park, Morrilton, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful state park! The hiking was fantastic. We were in B Loop, site #48, and it was not a good site. The pad was dirt, with some ruts from the previous camper. The water connection was on the awning side. The picnic table was on the sewer connection side and the patio was behind the camper. We couldn't sit under our awning because the site slipped down right where you step out of the camper. Most water connections in Loop B were on the wrong side. This Loop has wooded sites, but most pads were broken asphalt. If you have a larger camper, stay away from this Loop - good only for pop ups and tents. We rode around Loop A and it was gorgeous. Hard to get a reservation there! Also, no laundry facilities. Nearest laundromat is in Perryville, about 12 miles down the mountain. Of course, there is nothing else in Perryville! We camped at Petit Jean State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Don't miss the Cedar Creek Trail, which starts at the Pioneer Cabin. Awesome fudge at the country store right outside the park.

Lake Ouachita State Park, Mountain Pine, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful State Park in Lake Ouachita. We did not have reservations and were given site #24 in Loop A. This is the biggest Loop and has full hook ups. Half the sites are on the water and the rest on the interior. Ours was on the water. We moved to site #17 after 2 days to extend our stay by 3 days. Again, a great site on the water. All sites have a nice picnic table, fire ring and bbq pit. Large pads for your chairs or canopy. The bathrooms were so clean you could eat off the floor!! Our bath house had 4 individual areas that were all inclusive meaning, private bathroom/ shower and dressing area that had a door. Very nice! Lots of hiking in the park also. Highly recommend! We camped at Lake Ouachita State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Houston East RV Resort, Baytown, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed overnight on a Wednesday. The location is right off of I-10, so very convenient. That being said, it is very noisy with interstate traffic. You need a fan or some type of white noise to drown it out. The spaces were all pull through and long enough for our 20 ft camper and truck without having to unhitch. The bathrooms/showers were very nice with modern tile work. The ladies showers had a door ( instead of a curtain) and even a built in ledge to place your foot on for shaving your legs. Good WiFi, cold water bottles upon arrival. Water pressure was a little low. There was a black dog roaming the park all night. We had to keep our dog locked in the camper. Would stay here again if passing through. We camped at Houston East RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

F. D. Roosevelt State Park, Pine Mountain, Georgia

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights in # 304 with the grandkids. What a wonderful area and park. Very shady spots, great hiking and very close (7 minutes) to Callaway Gardens. The park itself has lots of stuff to do for kids and adults alike. A beautiful pool is nearby ( although it's too far to walk). We are definitely coming back. We camped at F. D. Roosevelt State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Callaway Gardens has a wonderful beach and swimming. The best deal is to get an annual pass ($129 if you aren't local) and that gets you, and 5 guests in the same vehicle, in for free the entire year.

Cloudland Canyon State Park, Rising Fawn, Georgia

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful park with great hiking trails. We originally planned to stay 2 nights and ended up staying 5. The sites are shady and very roomy. Grocery store is 8 miles into Trenton. The camp store has a nice selection of camping gear and souvenirs. Not much food though! There is a small " library" with some novels near the bath house. We stayed in the west rim campground. We camped at Cloudland Canyon State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We went to Chickamauga to visit the civil war battlefield. Very nicely done, outdoors! You drive through the national park and call a phone number on the site posts and you get a recorded message telling you all about the battle fought at that stop. Took about an hour to drive through the park and listen at the stops.

Noccalula Falls Campground, Gadsden, Alabama

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights on site A36. They don't rent out #35 so we could use it to park our truck. We were in the back of the park, right near the trails. Nice shady spot with plenty room for our chairs. Site had a picnic table and fire ring. The park has wifi, but we couldn't pick it up. Too far from the source I suppose. We really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back. We camped at Noccalula Falls Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The hiking trails are great. Definitely try a few of the color coded trails. They are mostly flat and not very difficult, but completely in the woods.

Natchez State Park, Natchez, Mississippi

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights in the middle of the week. We were the only campers in the park, which was a little creepy. The park has 2 campsites and we stayed in B. All spots were very shady, with lots of trees. The sites themselves had a concrete pad but there was no area next to the pad to put your rug or chairs. The sites either sloped down, or they were covered with tree roots and holes. It rained a lot and that made for a muddy mess. The park had no reception for AT&T. Nice biking as it is very hilly! Because of the issue with the narrow pads and no room for chairs, we will probably choose another park next time. We camped at Natchez State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Timberlake Campground, Brandon, Mississippi

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night in spot N3, which is on the water. The pads are concrete and very wide. It will accommodate your camper and all your chairs/rug. It seems that at least half the park are longtime residents as we saw many travel trailers with real lawn furniture and attached wooden porches. There is a nice big laundry with plenty machines. Most sites have at least some shade, if not completely shaded. They paved the roads and some have a very big drop- of. We had to pass up our first choice spot because we couldn't back the camper in without running the risk of slipping the truck off the pavement. Grocery store and gas station are across the street. There is also a tennis court and a basketball court. We camped at Timberlake Campground in a Travel Trailer.
