Goose Island State Park, Rockport, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Oh my god, the mosquitoes! I've never seen so many in my life and I live in Central Texas where we have plenty of them. Even with bug spray, they just don't care. We have a folding camper, so it was a big issue, but I guess regular RVs wouldn't care so much. The other main issue with this park is that it's on an inland area, so if you thought it was going to be next to the beach, you're wrong. (Mustang island is still closed, so we thought this would be similar, but it is not). It's not facing the sea. The loops and turns are impossible to navigate and don't make any sense when you're trying to find your site. We ended up leaving early and just getting a $12 beach permit nearby dry-camping directly on the beach. No mosquitoes there. =) We camped at Goose Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Palmetto State Park, Gonzales, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Heavily-shaded, beautiful trees. They make the camping bathrooms much better than the regular bathrooms. Amazing mountain biking trails. Lake is kind of a joke, don't take your kayaks there. For some reason this month all the mosquitos were gone? Not sure where they went (it did rain a lot). The sites are very well paved. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rockaway RV Park, Burnet, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Clean park, nice people, just located in the wrong place. If you're a fisherman or kayaking, you'll have a wonderful time. If you're going there for peace and quiet, the price is way too high for that --- you're right next to the highway and you just hear traffic all night long. Grounds are well-kept, though. Didn't find any ant-piles. For a price this high, it's probably better to go to the state park nearby if you're not specifically interested in immediate riverside access. Not a great location for children.... more for water activities. No wifi repeaters - must be near office to get a signal. Tents are only allowed at two sites, so you can't really bring your buddies along. None of the sites have fire rings - was a little confused by that. We camped at Rockaway RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Big Chief RV Resort, Burnet, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Great for full-size motorhomes, but not so great for A-frames/Popups: There is a large light at each spot which was probably designed to be helpful, but attracts all the flying insects when you are unfolding your camper at night time. They also have this sign up at the front desk telling people not to put stakes in the ground for canopies/awnings for those of us that do not have built-in awnings - which means they didn't run the water lines according to code and don't want to get them fixed. Bummer. The campground itself is pretty good, just a little bit of a nuisance for folding trailers. They only accept one day of Passport America even though we were there for two days. (It wasn't a holiday either). We camped at Big Chief RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.
