Guist Creek Marina and Campground, Shelbyville, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

A little bit out of the way for an overnight stop, but it filled the bill. It must fill up in the summer with campers who enjoy boating and hanging out on the weekends. The sites are in a grass field with good hookups for each. Since the sites are on grass, there is some rutting at the sites and the dump station. The man doing the check in was friendly and helpful. The restroom/shower room was clean. We avoided the first turn to that leads up to the campground from the marina (a bit steep and between trees) and went the long way around towards the back of the campground. We camped at Guist Creek Marina and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Outflow Camping COE, Confluence, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground next to the dam and outflow station. We just found an open site and then booked it online. There was a person camping there that noticed we were looking for a spot and was very helpful. He may have been the campground host, but never notice a sign stating such at his site. Bathrooms and showers were cleaned everyday. Would stay here again. We camped at Outflow Camping COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We road our bikes on the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) trail which is very close to the campground. The town of Ohiopyle is nearby (can there by car or the GAP trail) and is worth a visit.

Timbercrest Camp and RV Park (formerly Kandels' Camping & RV Park), Millersburg, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Park was very full and had to settle for a back-in site which was very adequate. Nice and helpful young woman at check-in. Our "faithful" GPS took us on a wonderful, if a bit convoluted, route to get there through the Amish countryside. The only complaint about the park was the not so great (to put it mildly) water. Unfortunately, we took on a full tank of it and suffered through drinking it for the next few days (even using it for tea didn't cover up the taste). Maybe it's just a matter of us being used to a different type of water at home (in Colorado). That said, it was a great experience and we'd gladly stay here again. We camped at Timbercrest Camp and RV Park (formerly Kandels' Camping & RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

As others have suggested, the nearby Yoder Amish Home is a worthwhile visit. We also drove to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. It's an excellent place to visit if you're a super pro football fan. I'm glad I visited it, but don't know that I'd go back again. We found Millersburg a bit too busy and touristy for our taste.

Illinois State Fair Campgrounds, Springfield, Illinois

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the electric/water section of the park where there was electric/water only. It was a nice, grassy area with some shade. The sites were fairly level, but the recent rains meant there were some ruts (and the grass needed mowing). If you want full hookups, you'd need to use the front part of the campground which is a large, asphalt parking lot type area. Great place to stay when visiting the various Lincoln historic sites in and around Springfield. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Lincoln Museum was very interesting and worthwhile, but we particularly enjoyed the old State Capitol building in which Lincoln spent much time as lawyer and legislator. Springfield is a nice sized town where we walked to most historic sites and had lunch.

Grand Lake St Marys State Park, Saint Marys, Ohio

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Large, grassy, well treed state park. Easy to navigate inner roads with well spaced sites. We stayed right next to the lake with a great view. Clean, well kept up park with helpful person to check us in (didn't have reservations). We didn't use the shower or bathroom facilities, but the looked clean. We camped at Grand Lake St Marys State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Went to the Bicycle Museum of America in nearby New Bremen as well as the visitor center there in the old lock keeper's house. Saw interesting history of the Miami/Erie Canal there (as well as in St. Marys). Went to the Armstrong Space Museum at Wapakoneta. It was OK, but kind of dated. We aren't real "space buffs", so the museum may be worthwhile if you're really into space exploration history.

Mountain View RV Park, Bowie, Arizona

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Great value for full hookups. Some train noise, but not enough to make us not want to come back. Friendly service. We'll be back. (Note for editor of site: Campground address should be 1120 WEST Business 10, not east. Had trouble finding it with our GPS when approaching from the east.) We camped at Mountain View RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bonham State Park, Bonham, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Nice, quiet state park by a small lake with trees. The back-in sites were easy to manage with our small 5th wheel trailer. Great place to stop over for a night or two. More relaxing that staying at a commercial park. We camped at Bonham State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great place to walk around the small lake and check out the roosting black vultures and spot other birds (we also saw a great blue heron). There's other hikes that start and end near the campground.

Four -K- Stables, Bassfield, Mississippi

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This gentleman was the gracious host and owner of the stables/camping area near the Longleaf Trace. Just 5 back-in sites near the barn and next to a pasture with goats and horses. We were the only ones here. It would have been a tight fit for our small 5th wheel if there were other RV's present. I can't say that it's "big rig friendly," but from my understanding, the sites aren't used very much.

It was great for us because we were here to ride bikes on the Longleaf Trace, which is only a couple of blocks away. Very beautiful and quiet here. You'll most likely have the place to yourself - nice! We camped at Four -K- Stables in a Fifth Wheel.

Perfect launching point when doing the Longleaf Trace. We rode both north and south from the campground and saw a lot of the Trace. It was also fun feeding the goats and horses at the stables. There's a couple of cool, old buggies in the barn that were fun to check out.

Pioneer RV Park, Hermiston, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Nice surprise to find this super clean and tidy RV park. Lots of semi-permanent residents, but all with larger, newer 5th wheels and trailers. Nice laundry and shower facilities. Made a nice stopover place on our way back to Colorado from the Astoria area. We camped at Pioneer RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Peak View RV Park, Wheatland, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Convenient place to stop when we were returning to Denver. Not far off of I-25 on the road to Guernsey. Mostly semi-permanent residents (10 of 14 available spots looked like they had trailers that had been there for some time). Friendly owner. Sites were gravel and mostly level. Nothing fancy, but filled the need for a convenient, reasonably priced park. We camped at Peak View RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We stopped at Peak View because we wanted to avoid getting to Denver during rush hour (or should I say "rush hours"?). Since we had the afternoon to get out and tour around, we drove east to Guernsey and out to Fort Laramie National Historic Site. Great place to visit!! Highly recommended. Register Rock in Guernsey also worthwhile if you're interested in Oregon Trail history.
