Letchworth State Park, Castile, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

This is the best State Park you will ever stay in. The sites are all wooded and spacious. While it does not have full hook-up it does have electrical, which for us was great. They are redoing all the bathrooms. Loops 100, 200 and 700 have been redone and all have new individual shower/toilet/sink bathrooms, it's like having your own private bathroom. So far the bathrooms are immaculate, hope the campers keep them in that state. The campground is redoing each section of bathroom in each loop one loop per year. The staff is great and they keep the grounds of the whole state park as if it was a private home. I can't say enough good things about it. This is the second time we camped here once in 2015 and now in 2018. It was great then and great now. Lots of activities for everyone within the state park. We camped at Letchworth State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a well furnished camping store just past loop 700 with a rec hall and a nice playground for children. Go visit Glenn Iris house, now a lovely hotel, summer home of William Letchworth in the 1900's. Enjoy a lovely lunch or dinner at the Inn. Walk the trail and see all three waterfalls, they are fabulous and very impressive. They call this park the Grand Canyon of the East and there is good reason why it is called that.

Beacon Hill Campground (Ages16+), Intercourse, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We camped at Beacon Hill Campground for two nights. The campground is very small but lovely. Very well kept and very clean. The sites are tight and close together but the beauty is that you are nestled between two beautiful Amish farms that are breathtaking. The area is very quite, the only sounds are the clicking of the horse and buggies that go by or the sounds of cows mooing while looking down into the farm The bathrooms, showers and laundry area are spotless. Even though the campground feels a little crowded you are also walking distance to the lovely town of Intercourse. We had full hook-ups and wifi (wifi a little slow but ok). We really enjoyed our stay and would return. The best sites are on the upper level. Sites 1 to 9 are the best. The lower level looks more like a crowded parking lot but it can take the bigger rigs. Our site was just long enough for our 28ft. trailer. You are unable to also fit your vehicle, but you can park your vehicle in parking area right across the sites, just a few steps away. We camped at Beacon Hill Campground (Ages16+) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Many things to do in the area too many to list. Visiting nearby towns a real treat. The Amish farms and people are extraordinary. We did a tour of the Amish Farmlands with the Amish Experience. Visit Kitchen Kettle Village in Intercourse quaint little shops with local shopping. Also many shops along main road. Go have dinner at the Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant & Smorgasbord, excellent food at reasonable price. For us this was a wonderful vacation just sorry we did not stay longer.

Shawnee State Park, Schellsburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful state park with walking trails, biking trails and a beautiful lake with a nice beach and lots of fishing. Unlike most state parks, this park now has a new section (Loop B) that offers full hookups; electricity, water and sewer. Sorry no WIFI. The only negative is that this new section is very close to the PA Turnpike so the noise from the highway is rather loud. Maybe when the trees are in bloom it might be a bit better. The sites are very large and not too close to each other. Most of the sites are pull-through. The forest rangers and park office employees were awesome and very helpful. We camped at Shawnee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

About 15 minutes from the campground there are many little towns. The best of them is Bedford, a real charming little town with nice restaurants and very historical. Worth a trip. Also not too far is the Flight 93 National Memorial. The whole area is just beautiful and worth exploring.

Rustic Barn Campground, Corinth, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is very nice, lots of wooded sites and very pretty pond. Grounds are kept neatly and well groomed. The owner is very nice and helpful. I would have given this campground a much higher rating but.....99% of the campground is seasonal. They only have 2 sites for "transients" (I just learned that is the new terminology for campers that are not seasonal). Some of the seasonal campers are nice but some are rather run down. Our site was very tight for our 28 ft. camper. Difficult backing in. Not much room for our car. Between the camper and the fire pit there was approximately 6 ft. plus the picnic table. We were hoping for a nice weekend in the woods but it did not feel like camping. We camped at Rustic Barn Campground in a Travel Trailer.
