OK RV Park, Holbrook, Arizona

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Easy on and off from I-40. We have used this park for overnights from our home in SW CO to Southern Arizona several times. Nothing fancy just easy pull-thrus with dependable utilities with level sites. Cable has ESPN and over 50 channels. We camped at OK RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Graceland RV Park & Campground, Memphis, Tennessee

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Good location to see Memphis. Graceland is right next door while downtown is about 20 minutes to downtown. No cable but OTA was excellent, real weak wifi and weak water pressure. We felt very safe in the campground. We camped at Graceland RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Graceland was way over priced for what you got. We did the basic tour. However, the Civil Rights Museum was excellent and shouldn't be missed. We parked our dually pickup at the Civil Rights Museum and walked to Beale Street and the downtown (about a mile) during the day. We ate at Gus's Famous Fried Chicken for lunch which was great. The Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid was fun to check out. Finally, we took the pink limo from the campground to Marlow's which had great BBQ.

Kentucky Horse Park Campground, Lexington, Kentucky

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is a good location for all the attractions around Lexington. The only major weakness of this park is the lack of sewer but with care on water usage, we stayed 6 nights. Good OTA tv as no cable. The cell service at our site was poor. Sprint had one LTE. Other sites might be different. Wifi was poor. We also found the angle of the spaces to be hard to back into as they are not at the correct angle. We camped at Kentucky Horse Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Lexington in October is great. There are discounted tickets ($16 instead of $20) to the Kentucky Horse Park and free parking for people that stay in the campground. We went to Keeneland for a horse race which was great and classy. We took the Unique Farm Horse tour which besides showing a horse farm with expensive thoroughbreds, visited a tobacco farm, and the Fasig-Tipton horse auction. Also the Toyota Factory Tour was amazing. (make reservations early for this free tour).

Tips for other Campers:

Good bike path to get to the beach and the boardwalk. The park also had a private parking lot very close to the beach. Naval Base Cruises from Norfolk was great as was the bus tour of the Norfolk Navel Base. We parked our dually at a park and ride and took the light rail into downtown Norfolk.

American Heritage RV Park, Williamsburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

The park is very well kept. Most sites had grass beside their site however our site didn't have grass due to the trees (which dropped a lot of leaves and acorns). The sites are tight to maneuver but manageable if you go slow. Cable was very good including ESPN. WIFI was good. We stayed here 10 nights and would stay again. Location to the tourist attractions were within 15 minutes using I-64. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We purchased the Fall Bounce ticket that we used two times at Busch Gardens and 3 times at Colonial Williamsburg for $99.00. This was a great deal and we didn't have to rush touring Colonial Williamsburg. The American Revolutionary War Museum in Yorktown was also very interesting at $12.00. The Virginia Capital Trail was a great bike path. We went from both Jamestown and Charles City. Both bike rides were different.

Loft Mountain Campground (NPS Campground), Elkton, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

National Park Campground made for smaller RVs. We had a 31' 5th wheel and didn't have any problems finding a good spot. We arrived on Sunday afternoon after everyone else headed home. The great thing about NP campsites is that you are located in the park and don't have to waste time driving to hiking trailheads. We surprisingly got 75 OTA channels so had choices of all of the major networks. The cell service (Sprint) was almost non existent. Generator hours didn't start till 8:00 AM. After October 15th, the hours were 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM instead of 7:00 PM We camped at Loft Mountain Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Great hikes can be completed starting from your campsite. Watch out for ticks as our dog had many after our hikes. Please remember that the maximum speed on the Skyline Drive is 35 MPH, therefore staying in the park is much more desirable.

Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground, Beckley, West Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

This is a city park with full hook ups. You have to travel a couple of miles from I-64 on some narrow streets and sometimes steep streets which would not make this an easy on and off. However, the streets are paved and don't have a lot of traffic. Very doable. We have a Ram dually and a 31' foot 5th wheel and had no problems at all. This park has back in spots and didn't have trees at the road making backing in easier. There were only 6 out of 17 spots occupied being mostly 5th wheels and only one motorhome on the night we were there. We visited the coal mine tour by walking from our site to the tour and museum. We only got ABC and PBS on OTA TV due to the hills. The park was well maintained as the city crews were blowing leaves from the sites. We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The coal mine tour was very interesting. The tickets were discounted to $14 instead of $20 each because we stayed at the campground. It was a short walk from our camp site to the tour and we never had to disconnect our 5th wheel. The toll from Beckley to Charleston on I-64 was only $5.00 for our truck and 5th wheel.
