Mountaindale Cabins & RV Resort, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

Friendly staff at the campground. Most sites are somewhat shaded and have decent space plus table and fire ring. Full hookups at all. Unfortunately we had to move 5 times over 3 weeks. There is negligible cell service at the campground. Wifi is hit or miss. During the week there is tractor trailer traffic to and from the quarry 6am to 5pm. Heard/felt artillery or tank rounds from Ft Carson during some nights. My main beef is the price is comparable to a KOA, but there is no pool, jumping pillow etc. We camped at Mountaindale Cabins & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

San Luis Valley Campground, Villa Grove, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed overnight on the way to CO Springs. The owners are friendly and were responsive to the issues we had (clogged sewer & water pressure). However, the price was way too high for what we got. We camped at San Luis Valley Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The Views RV Park & Campground, Dolores, Colorado

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice folks who own the campground as well as the hosts. New bathhouse and laundry. Very quiet at night. I would choose a site in the inner lower loop. They have trees and appear to be more level. Prices are high for what you get, but that seems to be typical for Colorado. We camped at The Views RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The views from McPhee campground are very nice. There are MTB trails in Cortez. Fishing in the reservoir. Mesa Verde NP of course. Maverick fuel station had the best diesel price.

Williams / Exit 167 / Circle Pines KOA, Williams, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Nicely laid out big KOA with concentric circle arrangement of the sites. There are 3 fenced dog areas plus trails behind the campground. Pool is in good shape. Clean bathrooms with push button showers and sinks. Our kids enjoyed the pillow, pool and trikes. We stayed at the Flagstaff KOA as well and preferred this one. Cost was 45 during week and 50 on the weekend. We camped at Williams / Exit 167 / Circle Pines KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are trails behind the campground including a short, steep one to the top of the ridge. ADOT are currently working on the freeway (May 2018), and the westbound exit is closed. You'll need to get off at Williams, get back on 40 going east, and exit on the eastbound side.

Alamogordo/ White Sands KOA, Alamogordo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Really nice owners and employees. Very friendly and helpful. Nice bathrooms and pool. Watch your awnings when the winds kick up. Sites are close but I've had tighter spots with other KOAs. Concrete pad with concrete table and partial wall for a little privacy. Would prefer more space and shade. We camped at Alamogordo/ White Sands KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Borrow sleds and check out White Sands. I don't think the missile museum was worth the drive, but it's free. Wish we had seen the space museum but had to do some repairs during our stay. We walked our dog to Griggs park to throw the ball. There is a dog park near there as well.

Friendly staff at this KOA. Reasonable shade. No issues with hookups. Parked the pickup sideways to fit. Big and clean laundromat. Dryers worked very well. Bathrooms clean. Pool was very nice. Overall one of the nice KOAs we've seen. We camped at San Antonio KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Bike path to nearby parks is nice. Enjoyed Pletz park with fitness stations and open fields to throw the ball with our dog. Alamo was very good, but we preferred seeing the missions. The western art museum was a nice surprise, and it's free Tuesday evenings. Pick up the bus at the campground. Pleasant and cheap.

Cedar Breaks Park COE, Georgetown, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park. Sites range in length, terrain, and sunny vs shady. My site is level side to side but slopes down some back to front. Was able to level it with minimal hassle. Nice shady area with lots of room. Grab site 8 if your rig is 40+ foot. Bathroom toilets not great but usable. Showers are fine. We hit the hiking trail ofte;. didn't get to ride it, but it looks mostly doable if you like to mountain bike. We camped at Cedar Breaks Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Greenbelt path is nice. If you like mountain biking, check out the trails off the other loop across the road. We visited the WW2 museum but didn't enjoy it as much as the WW1 museum in Kansas City. Kerrville has everything you need. Visit Fredricksburg if you're into wine. Propane at KOA, but they charge by the tank.

Hickory Creek COE (Closed until March 2019), Lewisville, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Pros: Long and level site with lots of room between sites in general. We enjoyed hiking the trail to the boat ramp. Great views of the lake. Reasonable proximity to DFW. Cons: no sewer (but excellent dump site) and bathrooms didn't get any attention while we were there. Showers were fine. Price is high compared to other CoE parks we've used in neighboring states. We camped at Hickory Creek COE (Closed until March 2019) in a Fifth Wheel.

El Reno Lake Campground, El Reno, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

There are two sections in the campground. The West side is 50A FHU pull through, and the east side doesn't have sewer and is a mix of back in and pull through. We stayed in the FHU area. Honor system for payment with a box and envelopes. No host on site. Decent space per site, and easy to level. Easy pull through with a couple of trees providing some shade. Enough room to put down the garage patio. Sewer connection is 4" threaded but connection is below dirt. The bathhouse has 3 individual rooms each with sink, toilet, and shower. Strong hot water but not very clean. The lake is pretty but signs indicated a blue-green algae bloom was present during our stay. Easy walk to a nearby golf course. We camped at El Reno Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

No issues backing into the site. Unhooked and parked the truck sideways in front of the trailer. The site is mostly level. Site includes downset area with fire ring, table and 2 tent sites. The campground and bathhouse are very clean. Short walk to the diamond field visitor center over a gravel trail. Nice hiking/biking trail loop by the river with 2 fitness stations along the way. The trail is paved to the river and dirt the rest of the loop. We camped at Crater of Diamonds State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

T. O. Fuller State Park, Memphis, Tennessee

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We like the campground, but we generally prefer state parks to the resorts. The campgrounds is being refurbished with newly paved sites. No sewer available at the site, but there is a two-lane dump station. Nice hiking trail around the area, but it can get muddy. The bath house could use an updating, but it's reasonably clean. Down side is there is currently no hot water in the bath house. They are waiting on a water heater. It would have been nice to know that before we reserved. We camped at T. O. Fuller State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Trout Run Camp Resort, Wellsville, New York

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed the campground. We were there at the end of the season and basically had the park to ourselves. We had a broken spring hanger on our trailer, and the owner went beyond the call of duty to get it fixed. He provided tools, helped us get it fixed, and brought in a local welder. We had a back-in site with power. Sewer connection was too far back to be useful. The campground needs some work, but the owner is making improvements. We will return if we are in the area. We camped at Trout Run Camp Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
