Steens Mountain Resort, Frenchglen, Oregon

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

From Frenchglen, 3 miles on gravel road, with a lot of washboarding, but closest park with full service to the beautiful Steen Mountains. Sites are not too level, but work. Owners have remodeled the bathrooms/showers, clean. Maybe one out of four tables are usable. They are also remodeling the office and small store area. No wood available when we were there, found some at the store in town. Wi-Fi not very strong. Nice BLM campground nearby if you want to dry camp. We camped at Steens Mountain Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Small town of Frenchglen about 3 miles away. Small Mercantile and gas pumps and great food at the Frenchglen Hotel. Take the 50 mile loop road to the top of the Steen Mountain.

Page Springs Campground - BLM, Frenchglen, Oregon

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the nicest BLM campgrounds we've been to. Some sites are close, others far apart. During our stay we had options for both. Clean restrooms, pit toilets, nice cement picnic tables, fire pits. Hikes available, on the Blitzen river. Wild Redside Trout fishing, catch and release. At the foot of the Steens Mountain, take the 50 mile loop road to the top and back. Beautiful, about 10,000 feet at the top. We had early snow, but it melted off when the weather warmed. Near the little town of French Glen, store, gas, hotel and school is about it. Go to the French Glenn hotel for breakfast lunch or dinner. Great food in this historic little hotel. Be prepared for Ralph. Gravel road 3 miles from town. Dusty and washboard, but worth the effort. Birders Paradise. We camped at Page Springs Campground - BLM in a Travel Trailer.
