Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Wow! Blue Bell Campground is an incredible campsite (about 30 spots for RVs and/or tents) and also about 20 cabins. This spot, inside the State park, is up a stunning windy road highlighting some of the best this park has to offer. We made it up with our 30 ft. Travel Trailer no problem (check the maps first, there are definitely some roads a RV cannot travel in this park). Bison are spotted frequently, along with other wonderful wildlife. There are several campsites in Custer State Park - Blue Bell is nestled among plenty of pine trees making it (in my opinion) the best campsite we spotted in the park. Electric (30/50) only, plus potable water at the camp. No dump station, but there are some in the park - ask directions. The restrooms and showers were spotless, clean, modern. The camp hosts super friendly and accessible. We camped at Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are general stores inside the park, and Lodges that serve meals. Needle's Highway Route is stunning, and Wildlife Loop Road takes you around the park where we spotted all the animals, easily. Take care not to take your rig on some roads (incl. Needles Hwy) due to tiny but awesome tunnels - maps have the restrictions listed. Sylvan Lake is a great place to hike and lunch. Wind Cave National Park is nearby. You won't be dissapointed in Custer State Park!

Spruce Creek Park, Bellevue, Iowa

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Pulling in to where the camp site was seemed a bit off the beaten path, but the roads were fine, and the RV Park is tucked in... there are just under 90 sites, and also a small marina. This was a wonderful camp site right along the Mississippi River. Stunning views. All the camp sites were great - some along a small stream, others like the one we had (site 67) our 30' travel trailer was backed up to the River on a level concrete pad. They had 30/50 amp electric, a dump station and non-potable water. There were also showers and restrooms conveniently located which we did not use at all. Firewood was for sale, no other merchandise or laundry. In town, 5 minutes away, there was gas, wood and convenience stores for all those goods you may need. While Spruce Creek Park does not have full hookups, this was our first experience with a dump station (which was fine) and filling up our fresh water tank (be sure to use your filter! - non-potable water). It was our first self-service check in...which was simple; upon pulling in there were envelopes with instructions to choose your location, fill out the envelope, insert your payment and drop in one of 2 different "deposit" sites on the grounds. There was a fire ring and large wooden picnic table at each site. This has been our favorite campsight thus far due to its natural beauty...river views, turtles sunning themselves and fish jumping out of the river, along with stunning sunrise and moon scapes made this a special place! This is what RVing is all about. We camped at Spruce Creek Park in a Travel Trailer.
