Goulding's Lodge & Campground, Oljato-Monument Valley, Utah

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

I drove in here from the south rim of the Grand Canyon and was thrilled to find it in the dark. I had expected a flat dirt lot similar to a truck stop, but was shocked to find the Check-In facility open and the woman at the counter was prepared for us.

We stayed in site 32 which had a nice picnic table and grill. I didn't realize how special this was till the next morning and was in awe of it all. The views were remarkable. More than I ever dreamed of. The night we checked in, my wife and I decided to book a guided full day tour of Monument Valley. We immediately booked an additional nights stay along with our tour.

The next morning our Navajo guide picked us up at the campground office and we had the experience of a lifetime. We are so happy we made the decision to come to Gouldings, and I highly recommend it to all who want to experience the amazing Monument Valley scenery up close and personal! We loved it All! Special thanks to our tour guide! We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

They have a museum, visitors center, gift shop at their lodge and there is shuttle service. This establishment has been here since the beginning and was the focal point of many John Ford westerns.

Castaic Lake RV Park, Castaic, California

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here as this was the closest rv park to L.A. we drove from E. Tennessee so my wife could see her mother who is ill. We prefer state parks and while I will just say that this was more of a residential park, the staff was more than adequate, the laundry facilities were very clean and it was about 1 hour to Sunset Blvd and Fairfax. We did not utilize any of the facilities other than the laundry room. They have cable tv available and conversion boxes for guests, but I was unable to utilize due to rv issues and not their signal. This was not what we wanted to stay in, but it was more than adequate for our needs. It is 15 minutes from magic mountain if that is your taste and to top it off, they have a great pizza place around the corner. I cannot consciously say anything negative, but at the same time it's location and amenities were right for us at this time. Only negative was inbound their to be way too much road noise from interstate, even though it was distant. We camped at Castaic Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.
