Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area, Flagler Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has two loops. One is Oceanside (which is AMAZING if you can book it, BOOK IT) and the second is Riverside (where I camped) - For $45.00 a night, Riverside is just OK. The campground is clean, well maintained, the rangers and staff are incredible. But the camping area is just very basic and OK. Riverside is not facing a river (it is a few hundred meters through the woods, on a trail. You cannot see it from your campsite) - The ocean is about a 1/2 mile away. Dogs are not allowed on the beach - Sites are in an open field. No shade. Some sites are paved, mine was gravel, unlevel. If you have a toad/car/a way to get around town, Riverside might be great for you. But if you are like me and you have a motorhome, there is not much that you access unless you drive out of the park. With that said, I would only stay here again if I could book a beach spot. We camped at Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Skidaway Island State Park, Savannah, Georgia

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I have been traveling for two months now and this is easily my favorite park so far. I love nature more than I care about "facilities" but this park has BOTH! - The sites are HUGE!! So much SPACE! Lots of shade, but enough sun. The sites are almost all pull-through (like a horseshoe). They are dirt but mostly level. Only a few full hookup sites so be sure to book in advance if you can. Spanish moss EVERYWHERE you look! Owls at night. Lots of birds to watch in the marsh. Lots of great hiking trails to keep you busy. They have an activities page with something to do every single day: Trail walks, star gazing, wilderness survival, informational hikes, history talks! - Laundry room at the bathhouse. Clean bathrooms. Heated. If you come during the month of December, camping is 50% off. And they have a Santa Claus thing starting mid-month for the kids! I LOVE THIS PARK! I might come back after Florida. I want more time to explore the trails. We camped at Skidaway Island State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Hot tub. A Hot tub. A Hot Tub. A Hot tub in December!!! Open until 10pm. You have me sold! But really - The place is really well kept. There is a nice little livingroom area with a TV and a Christmas tree. Lots of board games. Heat!! Bathrooms are clean. Showers could be better but they were clean too. I like the location. Lots to do just a mile or two down the road. We camped at Forest Lake RV Park & Camping Resort (Thousand Trails) in a Motorhome.

Kerr Lake SRA, Nutbush Bridge Campground, Henderson, North Carolina

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This park was a bit crowded when I visited in November. Unlike another campground a few miles away which was less crowded and more "nature-y" - Nutbush does not have a lot of RV sites near the water. The lots are open and sunny, very little shade. They have Electric and Water hookups. Dump on the way out. Beach is very nice. Lots of space to hangout and enjoy the peace of the lake. Stayed at campsite 088 and it is the closest RV spot to the Lake. Pull-through site. A bit unlevel. Loved the owls and coyotes at night!!! We camped at Kerr Lake SRA, Nutbush Bridge Campground in a Motorhome.

Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground, Henderson, North Carolina

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

I have been traveling for a month in my RV and this has been my favorite place so far...... What an absolutely gorgeous place to camp! So cheap too!!! - Lots of spots right on the water. Large shady trees. Sites are far apart. Fire pit. Picnic table. Electric and water at site. Dump on the way out. There is a gas station just a mile down the road if you need anything. There was a bald eagle that stopped by every evening after catching his fish for the night .... Random things to mention, other campers mentioned that you should call the park to check the water level before booking. Many visited in the Spring when the lake flooded the campsites and on my stay, the water was very very low leaving 100 feet to the beach. Also, the sites seem very un-level, depending on where you are. If I came back, the BEST SITES with a view are: 54 (water on three sides!!!!! It is magic!!!!) And 40 and 39 are beautiful sites on the water. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Motorhome.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Hagerstown, Williamsport, Maryland

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

I love the campground, but I dislike my RV site. As someone else mentioned, the RV gravel sites in the 700 loop are extremely unlevel (not "kinda-sorta" unlevel, I mean badly unlevel). Right now I am five levelers deep under both of my front tires and my fridge still is not level. I am just going to turn the fridge off and use my cooler for the night. Electric is good. Wifi works great on both my cell phone and my laptop and I am able to stream Netflix! (off-season = better wifi) - The RV area is pretty open to the elements. Very little shade. The trees are only about six feet high, planted in the last few years. The RV park is next to a farm. You can hear the animals and smell the manure when the wind turns. Showers are modern, heated, clean, hot water lasts forever! Dog park is large and maintained. Almost everything is closed down for the season. The pools, the store, amphitheater. Feels like a ghost-town. I doubt that it feels like that in-season. Haha. If you are not good at walking, or you just prefer being lazy during your camping weekend, be aware that you will probably need to rent a golf cart. This park is fairly large. From the 700 loop to the main desk is almost a 1/2 mile (I used my fit-bit to track it). We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Hagerstown in a Motorhome.

Bald Eagle State Park, Howard, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed five nights in the modern campground on Sycamore (the pet friendly loop) - This is a very modern campground. Very little tree cover, but very well maintained sites with leveled concrete. Easy to back in to. Sites are very close together. If I came back I would try to book sites: M083, M082, Mo80. I liked that they were tucked back into the woods with a few trees (trees are probably not your thing if you have a HUGE rig but for my little 20 foot motorhome, I prefer it). Bathrooms are old but clean and heated. Campground is not near the lake but it is an easy drive/hike. Beautiful park. Lots to see. Really easy roads to get here. Walmart is only 10 minutes away if you need anything! We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.
