Service Park Campground COE, Coffeeville, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

This small and cozy COE park is one of their best. Grounds are well cared for. The camp hosts and volunteers work hard to make your stay memorable and keep the place looking great. We stayed on site 14 which in our opinion is one of the nicest. All the sites are large and well spaced. The primary source of entertainment is the river barges. They are close and they run every day except Saturday. Hiking trails are not long but are easy and in good condition. The AT&T phone signal was weak at best but was serviceable. OTA television consisted of 4 very weak stations that were not worth the time to view so bring your satellite dish or DvD's if you want television. Bring your groceries as the only shopping is a well supplied General Dollar store. No fresh produce or meat but they have everything else. Great campground we will be back. We camped at Service Park Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Watch the barges, hike the trails visit the wildlife refuge. If you fish they have a great boat launch. River bank fishing is limited access due to height of the riverbank. Photography is good. Barge photo opportunities are excellent, wildlife opportunities are good for bird and some mammals.

River View RV Park & Resort, Vidalia, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed on site 105 which offered a good view of the Mississippi River boat traffic. The park is well managed and cared for. The staff was most accommodating. We reserved a front row as we enjoy watching the barge and boat traffic on the river. Lots are of reasonable size with most being pull through. Good electric, water and sewer. Good television reception and strong cell connection. Park Wifi was OK but slow so we used our cell connection most of the time. Close to Natchez, close to shopping and dining. We will return again. We camped at River View RV Park & Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like watching the river traffic reserve front row on the south end. If you plan on using the hot tub in the evening during cool weather make sure and let them know. The staff locked the area up early a couple of times thinking it was to cold out and no one would use it. Once they understood a hot tub is best in cold weather the kept it open. Tub and pool in great condition. If you need dog sitting services ask them about it on arrival.

Buccaneer State Park, Waveland, Mississippi

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

To be fair we arrived at this park after a stay at a very nice COE park. Buccaneer State park could be a very nice park. They have a great staff and a supreme location. The park lacks for maintenance. Our site # 13 was a large site at the outer end of a loop with a lot of potential. The pad was severely washed out at the back edges. This forced us to camp to the front of the pad leaving little room for our toad. One of the park employees was notified and said they had ordered gravel to fill the washout. None of the sites we saw had fire rings. You simply built a fire where ever you pleased. Our site was dotted with multiple old fire sites. Water sewer and electric were very good with sufficient pressure and easy access. Wifi was sketchy at best. We ended up using our AT&T access which was weak but worked. Good off air television with many channels. Shopping and restaurants are about 15 minutes away in Waveland. On the upside there is a nice waterpark and miles of white sand beaches. We would have camped on the beach sites but the cold weather and winds kept us in the wooded area. We camped at Buccaneer State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Choose your route to and from the campground carefully. A railroad track crossing has steep approach which could easily hand a long rig. There are a couple of good crossings but most are poor to impassable. Watch your speed on Beach Drive. Local PD runs radar to supplement the town budget. Speed limit is 25.... believe it. Beautiful beaches with long shallow approach to the Gulf (Bay). Nice park but needs some loving.

Twiltley Branch COE, Collinsville, Mississippi

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

We tripped across this park on our way south to warmer weather. We liked it so well we stayed for the week. Sites are large offering water and 30/50 amp power. Included are a fire pit, private beach, picnic table and endless hours of wildlife entertaining you. Cell phone reception and television reception were very good. The park staff, hosts and volunteers were great. Only down side was the shower facility (yes only 1 for the park) had poor lighting with only one bulb working, dirty floors and walls and poor heating. On the upside the water was hot with good pressure for a shower. Picture taking and hiking were our main focuses. There are Osprey, Eagle, Killdeer, Egret and Blue Heron. This is a true lake front campground. Our dog loved the miles of beach. As it was winter we had little concern of her coming across alligators or snakes. We camped at Twiltley Branch COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the Dam, hike the wildlife management area, fish, swim or boat on the 4000 acre lake. Groceries and services close by. Keep dog on leash as alligators are present during warmer weather. As a flooding area snakes may be present on the trails. We did not see any but we were there in January.

Foscue Creek COE, Demopolis, Alabama

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We picked Foscue because it was a COE and came recommended from other campers and USCOE Park Rangers. They were right. Well maintained , large sites and free fire wood. Those were not even the best features. The barges move up and down the waterway all day. These are fascinating to watch. Quite a crowd of campers would gather at the river to watch the passing barges. Host campers were helpful and friendly. Demopolis is close by with many interesting things to see and good shopping and a few good restaurants. We didn't fish but nearly every site is on the water so you can launch your boat of fish from the banks. Park your boat right outside your camp site. We will return this year but will stay right on the waterway so we can watch the barges. We camped at Foscue Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Shopping and groceries are two miles away. The strip has every type of store, gas station and fast food you could want and even some you don't. A few good restaurants (ask the locals or camp host) and a lot of historical places to visit. Downtown was fairly busy but not a lot happening.
