Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground), St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $68.00
Overall Rating:

This is an exceptional RV park. When we pulled in one of the employees came out with our paperwork and parking pass. We didn't even have to get out of our vehicle! That's a first. We got a spot in the Oasis loop which is less than a year old. All of these spots had pavers and we even had a separate parking area also with pavers. We had a corner spot. There was a small pond about 100 yards away which was very peaceful to sit by. All staff was extremely friendly and helpful during our stay. A nice feature is if you want to tour historic St. Augustine you can buy a 3-day trolley pass for $25 and a they will come and pick you up at the park. Of course, they want to get a lot of people downtown to spend money. It's very "touristy" but still fun. We came from a KOA in St. Petersburg where the facilities were pretty bad so this was a little slice of heaven! I highly recommend this RV park. We camped at Compass RV Park (formerly Indian Forest Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

St Petersburg / Madeira Beach KOA, St. Petersburg, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $104.00
Overall Rating:

As previous reviews have stated this is an old RV park. It's clean but the roads inside the park are extremely narrow and most sites only had 30A power. We were fortunate to get a spot right on the Bayou but other sites backed up to a bike path and ditch where a construction crew was working with big equipment all day. Our 5th wheel is only 31 feet long but it took a lot of skill to get into the narrow space. The sewer outlet was located under the middle of our rig so I had to crawl under the trailer to attach the sewer line. Since the power was only 30A we could only run one A/C unit at a time and it was 85 degrees with 70-80% humidity so one half of our rig was very uncomfortable. On the first night all our power went out and flipping the breaker didn't help. The next morning the Assistant Manager came over to investigate. The breaker had burned out. He was exceptionally nice and offered to comp us one day for the inconvenience. The power box was rusty and hanging at an angle on a 4X4 pole. The power needs to be upgraded. Cable was horrible with lines and fuzz running across the picture and WiFi extremely weak. We paid $104 per night. For that high of price you would expect better amenities. The staff was great and again the Assistant Manager was a super nice guy and very helpful. Overall, it was a clean park and we had a beautiful spot but for these premium prices you would expect 50A power, decent cable, and usable WiFi. We camped at St Petersburg / Madeira Beach KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lucky Charm RV Park, Old Town, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This was a very nice park for a few days. It's 4 miles outside of town. There was a great asphalt bike path running for miles over the Suwanee river area. Sites were huge pull-thrus and lots of room between spaces. Very quiet and peaceful. Every site had a fire ring and they sold firewood. A generous bundle of wood for $4. The owner even delivered the wood to our site. Very friendly owners. Minor concerns: the website states pool and spa. The owner says he only keeps the pool up during summer months and never has hot tub running. The website should reflect that. Also, WiFi did not work for all four days. Overall, for the money it was a good bargain and we enjoyed our stay. We camped at Lucky Charm RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lakeside RV Park, Livingston, Louisiana

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Lakeside for 2 nights. Great park with a beautiful lake in the middle and 2 swans who can entertain for hours. Perfectly placed seating areas. No good place to bike or walk outside of park but there is a short walking path around the lake that a person could use to do laps. Road noise is constant but seemed to quiet down enough at night. We camped at Lakeside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We didn't try restaurants or have time for sight seeing. We did shop at a couple of local markets and they are nice plus close. I understand that many people going to New Orleans or Baton Rouge stay here.

Galveston Island RV Resort, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Great location for quiet nights and getting to the Gulf coast beach!! We stayed for 12 days and enjoyed many of Galveston's attractions. It's a 25 minute drive to Galveston historical areas but we didn't mind. The island has a nice little grocery store about 7 miles away with a good local restaurant, Nate's West End, next door. The main road has a shoulder wide enough to comfortably ride bikes or walk. We had a few issues with the RV management that were not deal breakers for us: the hot tub is not hot and when we inquired, the replies were that a guy was coming to look at it and it needed a part but nothing changed in the 12 days we were there. Our 2nd issue was that we were told we couldn't have particular sites when we checked in because of Mardi Gras and they would be filling up. The sites were still empty when we left however, our site was perfectly good for us. The final concerns regarded the pricing. Our reservation was for 1 week at $275. When we checked in we added days and the price for the added days bumped up to $79 per day because of Mardi Gras. However, when we added even more days it took our average price down to $41 per day so overall it was acceptable, they just need to be more transparent up front. One last note-beware that if you buy propane make sure your tank is empty because you get charged for a whole tank even if you only need a partial. Even with the above experiences, we would stay again. It's a nice park and the location is perfect for us. We camped at Galveston Island RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The sites that we took in were the Space Center in Houston and the following in Galveston: Railroad Museum, ferry to Port Bolivar, the Strand, the Bishop's Palace, Pelican Island. Would highly recommend all of them as well as 2 restaurant's: Black Pearl and Fisherman's Wharf.

Colonia del Rey RV Park, Corpus Christi, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Close to Padre Island and many restaurants plus points of interest. Great staff! The park is older and has many permanent residents who seem to be courteous and patient with us short timers. The spaces are close together but pull thru. No views of the water areas that surround this part of Corpus Christi however, take the quick trip to Padre Island and the National Seashore for spectacular views. Once inside the park, it felt other worldly with natural dunes, grasses, wildlife and very people friendly beaches. We had a private picnic complete with a shade lean to and picnic table. The older RV park is worth being close to the island. We camped at Colonia del Rey RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

San Antonio KOA, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

The paved biking path was fantastic! We also enjoyed the pond during happy hour. The convenience of having the bus to go downtown across the street was worth being in an industrial area of town. We will definitely stay again. We camped at San Antonio KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Leasburg Dam State Park, Radium Springs, New Mexico

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Great little park! This was our 1st stop of a year long journey and we appreciated the quiet and low key ambiance. We enjoyed some bird watching and walking around the area. Only problem was freezing water hose at night but it thawed by late morning. Now we know to disconnect when freezing temps are possible. We camped at Leasburg Dam State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
