Cannon Beach RV Resort, Cannon Beach, Oregon

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Since it was a beautiful weekend in Cannon Beach, the park was full, but didn't seem over crowded. From what I have seen this winter, this park is exceptionally clean and well maintained. Even though it has a lot of large rigs in it, I had no problem getting to and backing into my site. Park quieted down early and was dead quiet in the morning, I think the time change helped there! Park is in a great location for getting into Cannon Beach. Internet/wifi in the park was better than my cellphone hotspot which was amazing considering the park was full. We camped at Cannon Beach RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Seal Rocks RV Cove, Seal Rock, Oregon

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

An overnight stop for us on the way north. Easy to find, plenty of room to maneuver. Easy little walk to the beach. Others have commented on the highway noise. We didn't notice it. The only "downside" I had was that the pull through site we were in had an uphill turn to it at the end, requiring me to unhook to get the trailer level. Not enough of a downside to make me lower the rating, but worth mentioning. We wouldn't make this a destination, but would certainly stop again when traveling up or down the coast. Internet/wifi was usable. Better than our cell phone hotspots. We camped at Seal Rocks RV Cove in a Travel Trailer.

Olema Campground, Olema, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 5 nights to see the Point Reyes area. We liked it well enough to plan on visiting again next January. As has been said, it floods in the winter, but the sites near the office were fine. Mainly the tent camping was flooded. It was a bit muddy, but the site we were in was fine. As has been said, the wifi internet gets overwhelmed in the evenings, but we had enough cell service to for a hotspot. We camped at Olema Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

In the winter, go see the elephant seals. Great cheese at the Cowgirl Creamery in Point Reyes Station. Excellent dinner at "Sir & Star", less than a 1/4 mile from the campground.

Richardson Grove Campground & RV Park, Garberville, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This was a one night stop on our way north. Served the purpose admirably. Level pull through site. Full services. Very quiet since it was winter. The downside was essentially no internet. Our AT&T cell phones had no bars, and the wifi was useless. The campground does not supply internet. The connection is supplied by a 3rd party. It was easy enough to connect to and pay for, but then it was worse than some of the old dialup modem connections from 20 years ago. Oh well, disconnecting is good sometimes. We camped at Richardson Grove Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area, Taft, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed Friday through Tuesday over Presidents day weekend. It was quiet when we arrived early afternoon, but filled up rapidly. It was a bit noisy with kids running around and lots of groups in their campsites and around campfires. By Sunday afternoon though it quieted down a lot and by Monday evening it was dead quiet. This will never be a destination stop for us, but if we need a stop while traveling through, we would definitely stay here again, especially mid week. We camped at Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area in a Travel Trailer.

East Shore RV Park, San Dimas, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $78.00
Overall Rating:

Didn't have trouble getting a good weekday site. Weekends is a different story. We were there Monday through Thursday. If we wanted to stay Friday we were going to have to move to a much less desirable site squeezed between two other RVs. That said, the view was fantastic. Good walking for the dog. Plenty of room to back in to the site. We could have stayed hooked up if we wanted to. However, the roads got tight in the evenings when a few too many people tried to park, often extending into the roads. Lots of long term residents. As others have said, avoid the F section. Tight access on the roads and sites squeezed together. We camped at East Shore RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan, Santa Barbara, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $95.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed over a weekend. Plenty of families in for the weekend Friday and especially Saturday night. Sunday night was dead quiet. There was plenty of kid noise, but it was all happy and quieted down early in the evening. Everyone I talked to were very friendly. The pull through sites are not spacious, but not cramped either. Being on a hill, you don't feel too much like you are looking in your neighbors window. Plus there is some shrubbery between most sites. My site was quite level, but I had a little struggle getting unhitch because it tilted down enough that the ball didn't want to come loose immediately. The park is right off of 101 and a set of train tracks, but the noise was less than I was expecting. Internet is not free, but our cell phone hotspots did the job. The price did seem a little steep and we prefer more space between sites, but this park is by far the best option for visiting Santa Barbara in our opinion. We camped at Ocean Mesa Campground at El Capitan in a Travel Trailer.

El Chorro Regional Park Campground, San Luis Obispo, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We like the location between SLO and the beaches at Morro Bay. The small size of the park helps make it a quiet place to stay. Unfortunately, it is a good enough park in a good enough location that getting a site isn't easy unless you plan in advance. The roadway is tight but I managed to get my 30' trailer and truck through without any trouble. Be prepared for a little road noise at night when it is really quiet. Some of the spaces are right next to each other and some almost seem like your are in your own private park. No internet, but my cell phone hotspot worked just fine. We camped at El Chorro Regional Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

San Lorenzo Park, King City, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This is the kind of park we like. Well kept up. Very few other visitors. Quiet. Not just a parking lot. Space in and out of the park to walk the dog. I'm sure that being off season was a big factor, but that is partly why we travel in the off season. While this is not a destination for us, we will certainly stay at this park again when our travels bring us down 101. In fact, we will likely plan our stops to hit this park since it seems a lot better than the ones to the north and south. We camped at San Lorenzo Park in a Travel Trailer.

The museums in the park are definitely worth an hour or two. You can't miss them, you pass them on your way to your site.

Saddle Mountain Ranch Campground, Carmel, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older campground on the side of a hill overlooking the Carmel Valley. The staff are great, very helpful. It is an easy drive into Carmel-By-The-Sea and to Carmel River State Beach which is dog on a leash friendly, chiefly used by the locals. The website says 28' RVs, but when we called, we were told they can handle at least 30', but that we needed to be confident with our maneuvering of the trailer to get around a tree at the top of the loop where RVs may go. We are newbies to the RV world, but I have done a fair amount of backing of trailers, so we went for it. We managed, but exited via the road in because of the way I was pointing once I got the trailer positioned. The takeaway here is go for it. Call and talk to them if you are unsure. They are very nice and helpful. When you are heading in on Schulte road, the road will get narrower and narrower, but you will get there. Wifi signal was good, but internet did get bogged down in the evening. Using my phone as a hotspot filled in just fine. We camped at Saddle Mountain Ranch Campground in a Travel Trailer.
