Poche's RV Park, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Some of the roads from I-10 to the campground were pretty rough but adjusting speed and course when possible around the rough pavement and all was fine. Check in was smooth and we were given a map with all the empty slots marked and told we could have our pick. Drove around the lakes twice and picked spot 28. The road was mostly gravel, and they were making some improvements. Most of the spots are back in to the left, nice angle and you rear is on the lake. Nice cement pad, perfectly level with power, water, and sewer at the rear of the site. Fire rings at every other site. Picnic tables at every site. The sites were close together with very nice grass between on most. Laundry and bath areas were spotless, washing machines and driers pretty new, worked well. Very relaxing campground with fishing at your door. Paperwork and camp staff can give excellent suggestions on local restaurants, all we visited were excellent. The people of the area are warm and friendly. In every restaurant we struck up conversation with locals sitting at nearby tables, all very willing to offer up suggestions about local activities. We camped at Poche's RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Indian Point RV Resort, Gautier, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Arrived on a really nice afternoon, check-in was fast, efficient, and conducted by a most pleasant lady. Some of the roads paved, some not, but pretty easy to maneuver my 35' fifth wheel into our pull through cemented and level space. Small but really nice picnic table also on the concrete. Roughly a 50' patch of grass between our front door and the next pad. Our particular lot was not very shaded but others would have been except for the time of year. Bath and laundry facilities were somewhat dated but clean. 3 of 4 driers we not operating but were fixed in a couple of days. We had a wonderful breakfast at the on-site restaurant. Wi-fi seemed pretty good on weekday mornings, ok in the afternoon and was in and out, mostly out in the evenings and weekends. The row we were in and the 3 behind us seemed to be for temporary travelers. Most of the rest of the campground units seemed to be permanently parked with a number of full time residents. A number of these units were pretty run down and moldy looking. Everyone however seemed very friendly. People seemed to drive too fast and in the morning between 5 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., too loud. Lots of loud cars and trucks. I didn't care but I don't have any kids. There were several nice places to fish the river or just observe the wild life and dock your boat. We camped at Indian Point RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge is very well done. Only 1 bar on AT&T, data slow to non-working. The location was the perfect spring board to see a big chunk of this part of the gulf coast and quite honestly, it kinda grew on me. If we come back to this area, we will likely stay here.

Foscue Creek COE, Demopolis, Alabama

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Foscue Park is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Arrived in the rain and the ranger booth was empty but a number indicated help was not far away. Sure enough after a short call a friendly volunteer arrived to check me in and give me much needed information about where to park, gate hours, etc. Roads through the park where plenty wide enough for my 35' 5th wheel. Easy angled back in to a very level concrete pad. Power, water, septic all easy hookup. Everything was in really good condition. Beside the parking pad, pea gravel outdoor area with fire ring, lantern pole, aluminum picnic table and another really handy small wooden table. Nicely done. I did learn after a few days that the pea gravel would stick to your shoes and was easy to track into the coach. Next time I will try to park leaving some of the concrete pad right in front of the steps. Live and learn. Our spot was overlooking the water with a wonderful view. There was adequate vegetation between sites to give good privacy. All in all, a very good start. I did a considerable amount of bird watching and spotted a number of birds to check off in my book. Fished with a new found friend but we did not catch anything. The place seems geared around fishing and watersports so we may have just hit a slow time. We were rather disappointed to learn that the laundry facilities were not functional. A Google search of the local town, Demopolis, indicated very low star ratings of the local laundry mats. We did however find a laundry mat not shown on Google maps on Hwy 80 at the eastern part of town with good machines that got the job done. The park appears to have one dumpster location for the camp area and is a nice little hike from the park end, a little exercise is good anyway. We did not use the bath facilities but we did look and everything seemed pretty clean, so no worries if needed. The only ding was the lack of operational laundry facilities. I would most definitely return. We camped at Foscue Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tugaloo State Park, Lavonia, Georgia

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Online reservation was easy. Last minute change by phone went very well. Arrived and was greeted by a very friendly ranger who seemed really glad we were there. I also met a number of rangers / maintenance people who were all just super. Just started full timing recently and this was my first stop after leaving my home of 21 years with my 35' 5th wheel. When I got to the camping area, I was a bit nervous by the tight roads with tight turns, and tree root bumps. The most friendly campground host suggested I just stop and take my time walking around and pick a spot. I did just that and found a beautiful place. The drive and park was a bit intimidating, but here I am, happy as can be. When I made the reservation, I didn't' realize that there were no sewer hooks up, my fault. So after a short time I had to pull out, dump, pull back in. Actually a blessing since I got more experience driving around the tight park. So we just used the park bath rooms and showers which were very clean. Our site was on a hill in a pine forest overlooking the lake, absolutely beautiful. Given the time of year, my wife, my dog, and I had the park mostly to ourselves. A few miles of hiking trails gave me views of a number of different birds (I love finding new birds) to running into deer many times. Being my first stop, I know little but I do know this. My wife, my dog and I really loved this place. Perhaps If lucky, I will return to camp host one day. We camped at Tugaloo State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
