American Sunset RV & Tent Resort, Westport, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

large, clean park. There are some long term and seasonal campers but lots of space for visitors too. There are three very clean bath houses, it is both big rig and pet friendly, there is a clean laundry, and there is a medium-sized heated (seasonal) swimming pool and a playground for the kids. Staff members were all friendly and offered ideas about where to eat and what to see and do. There are 30/50 amp FHUS and back to back pull throughs (we are here in a "not as busy" time so we have both sites, but that could be an issue in high season- so ask before booking); sites are grass and gravel and level. There is free WiFi for up to two devices (and it works!) and the cable TV gets quite a few channels. There is a large clubhouse and a fish cleaning building (fishing is huge here since Westport is on both Gray Harbor and the Pacific Ocean). There is a small camp store, a horse shoe pit, and a picnic table at each site. The campground has a separate tent area too. We camped at American Sunset RV & Tent Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Anderson Camp , Eden, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

nice park with quite a few amenities - pool, laundry, bath houses, pet friendly, big rig friendly, picnic table at each site, FHU, pull thrus, playground for the kids. Second pool has a water slide and costs extra. Our site was not overly long but truck fit sideways, gravel site that was level. Trees for shade and grass between sites. Good Sam, AAA, AARP discounts offered. Only negative for us was that the park WiFi didn't work and our Verizon MiFi was weak. AT&T phone worked well. We camped at Anderson Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Whispering Elms Campground, Baker, Nevada

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Very small desert RV park in super tiny town, but only 6 miles from the visitor center of Great Basin National Park, which is why we are here. We had to use a leveling board for the site we had, but it was easy to unload and reload the motorcycle, which was important to us. We had FHU and a pull thru site, both also important to us. Yes, it looks like desert and has full time rigs all around the edges but we like FHU sites and the park campgrounds don't have those. We didn't use the laundry or restrooms at this park. The owner is very friendly and owns the only bar in town; Fred enjoyed time there yesterday evening and visited with a lot of the park employees about their jobs, the park and the area. We camped at Whispering Elms Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Portland-Woodburn RV Park, Woodburn, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

115 N Arney Road97071; 503-981-0002. When this park was built, it was out in the country. A huge mall was built next to it so now it seems like a large in town park but with lots of amenities. Friendly staff. Sites are level and mostly pull thru with full hook ups (30 or 50 amp at each site). We had plenty of room for our 36 foot rig and I saw longer coaches than ours parked easily as well. Asphalt sites with grass in between each site. There is a pet walking area, cable, free WiFi (although it is slow if park is full at least it does work), a pool, a very clean and great laundry ($1.50 for washers; $1.25 for dryers - 8 of each machine), clean rest rooms and showers, a meeting room with full kitchen, and outdoor games are available through the office. No picnic table at the sites though. The park offers discounts for AAA, AARP, Escapees, and Good Sam. We camped at Portland-Woodburn RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wildhorse Resort and Casino RV Park, Pendleton, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

conveniently just off I-84. 100 sites, all FHU w/either 30 or 50 amp (more 30 available than 50), most are pull thrus, picnic table at each site, asphalt sites with grass between, not a lot of trees but some, level sites and most are long enough for big rigs and tow vehicles (the rest have to park sideways to their rig) heated outdoor pool, laundry, showers and restrooms. 30 day limit. Free shuttle to casino. There is also a golf course and there are several restaurants at the resort. We camped at Wildhorse Resort and Casino RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Flying U Country Store and RV Park, Joseph, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

45 South State Street 84739, just a few blocks off I-70 at exit 25. 435-527-4758. Small park behind a country store. The owner was friendly and invited us to come to the store in the morning for a freshly cooked breakfast at a very reasonable price. This park was great for an overnight when we were traveling west from Colorado to Nevada. Joseph is in the desert, but we had a nice shade tree and a good picnic table at our FHU pull through site. We chose one of the longer sites toward the back of the park; there were several shorter sites closer to the store as well. We did not use the restrooms or showers. No WiFi or cable included but several channels available using the antenna. We camped at Flying U Country Store and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fossil Valley RV Park, Vernal, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in Vernal at an in town friendly park that was way more reasonable than the KOA and since we are riding and visiting places every day, we don't use anything but the full hookups and the site space. Site was long enough for both 36 foot toy hauler and truck. Did have to let tailgate down in the road, but it was not a problem for anyone in the park, and the angle was great for unloading and reloading he motorcycle. Each site has picnic table and shade which was very nice. Bath house and laundry but no pool, playground etc. The town has grown up around the park. The two outside rows are back ins and looked like used by seasonal or long term. The inside two rows are pull thrus and mostly used by travelers. Vernal was a good base for Flaming Gorge and both parts of Dinosaur National Monument (Dino bones in UT, canyons in CO). We camped at Fossil Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Junction West RV Park, Grand Junction, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here for 4 nights in hot weather. The park has no shade and is a gravel parking lot. It was in the 90's while we were here and when our row (spaces 11-20) filled up, there was a very serious power drop. We measured voltage as low as 106 volts late in the afternoon. This is NOT GOOD!! Many electronics and A/C units will not withstand this low a voltage for very long before sustaining some damage. One of pour "neighbors" was forced to run his generator in order to have enough power for his A/C units to run. I have rated this park a 5 because of their other redeeming factors. The personnel are friendly and helpful, the sites are wide and long enough for big rigs, it is close to I-70, but far enough away so you don't hear traffic at night, they have limited free cable, and a poor to fair WiFi system. The voltage problem is a big deal and I would stay away from the row we were in. We would stay here again when in the area. We camped at Junction West RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Be sure to visit the Colorado National Monument while in Grand Junction. Not suitable for trailer or big rigs, but extremely scenic. Go in your toad on on your motorcycle as the twisty roads are really nice.

Taos Monte Bello RV Park, Taos, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

575-751-0774. 24819 US Hwy 64 W, El Prado, NM 87529. Located on the same road and about 5 miles from the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge and just a few miles north of downtown Taos. The park has 5 acres of open space and sits on the high-desert mesa at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Taos County. There isn't much shade (it is high desert after all) but the sites are long and wide and there is plenty of room between the gravel FHU (30 and 50 amp) pull through sites. Not all site are totally level but they are well kept. We have stayed here many times and have not had a bad site yet. The park has security gates, is pet friendly, big rig friendly, has a well-stocked convenience store, friendly hosts, a dump station, picnic tables at each site, a laundry, clean restrooms with showers, a neat group gathering area pavilion, tent sites with protected fences, and WiFi that actually WORKS! We camped at Taos Monte Bello RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

AOK Camper Park, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

No reservations taken - first come first served. Very convenient to both Spur 288 and I-40. The no frills park has quite a few long term campers on the outer park of the small park, but the central section has long, level FHU (30 and 50 amp) pull through sites. The sites can easily fit big rigs and their tow vehicles. There are really no amenities but the location and pricing is right (Passport America and Escapees discount accepted as well as $5 off for Senior Citizens & All Discount Clubs such as Good Sam, KOA etc.) The park has self-registration envelopes and a slot to put them in. There is a convenience store just across the street. We use this park whenever traveling northwest from the Dallas area. It is about a 6 hour drive from the DFW area. It is definitely not a destination park, but I wouldn't mind staying here a few days while visiting the area, especially if all I needed is the FHU, level "easy to get in and out of" site. We camped at AOK Camper Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Shady Creek RV Park & Storage, Aubrey, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

972-347-5384. 1893 FM 1385, 76227. (about 5 miles west of Dallas Tollway and about a mile north of highway 380). Great place! Large, clean, good looking park with many level, roomy gravel FHU (30 and 50 amp) sites. Very big rig friendly. All sites are back-ins but there are lots of grassy spaces behind and on each side of the sites. The front desk staff members were all friendly and efficient. Park has a laundry with several washers and dryers, clean restrooms and showers, great pool, outside gathering/ conversation area with large fire pit and chairs, fitness room, clubhouse, basketball court, activity schedule, designated dog walking area. Propane sales. Private washing service available for RVers who want this service. The WiFi, though free (and there were several towers), didn't work for us. We had to use our MiFi (as usual in nearly every park we visit now). Metered water and electricity. It was hot the week we were there, so that added to our cost. Depending on the traffic, about 25 minutes to downtown Denton and a half hour to Carrollton or Frisco. We could easily stay here again for a longer time. We camped at Shady Creek RV Park & Storage in a Fifth Wheel.

Bluebird RV Park & Campground , Wills Point, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

903-865-1511. 30488 State Highway 64, 75169 (only 3/10 mile from I-20). Good as a stop over or for a few days - not a destination place though. Small park mostly for long term residents but the park has 17 pull thru sites in the middle of the park for visiting RVers. Very close to Canton, TX for those who love the First Monday Canton Trade Days. Newly remodeled bath houses, big rig friendly, pet friendly, laundry, very friendly host, small RV store, they also rent fire pits and sell firewood. We had a nice picnic table at our FHU (30 or 50 amp) level pull through site but I noticed not all the 17 pull through sites had tables. As in most parks, the free WiFi didn't work well. They accepted Passport America discount. We were only there one night, so we didn't even try the cable since we got so many local DFW channels. We camped at Bluebird RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

East Lucas RV Park, Beaumont, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Good for an overnight or a few days in the Beaumont area if you will be touring the area. Mostly filled with long term residents but there is a FHU (30 or 50 amp) pull through section with roomy sites in the back of the park for short term RVers. Sites were level and plenty wide and long for our 36 foot toy hauler so I would say the visitor section is big rig friendly. We had the best site with not only a picnic table but also a deck. Most had only a picnic table. Cable TV, WiFi (although it didn't work well in the back of the park where we were) clean bathhouse, laundry ($1 wash. 25 min; $1 dry 40 min...I was really happy to see this info listed, because many parks do not give price or times for their machines), shade in some of the sites, dog walking designated area, small clubhouse, no pool or activities that I noted. The park brochure provided good info about stores, churches, and attractions that were nearby and the friendly host told us how to get to the state inspection station we needed. Offers discounts for TACO, Good Sam, and AAA. We would go back if we wanted to tour the Beaumont area in the future for a few days. We camped at East Lucas RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Park, Robinsonville, Mississippi

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Nice casino park with flat level concrete sites and full hook ups with good water pressure, TV reception, cable TV, and really good open WiFi network. You even get use of the casino's indoor pool and hot tub. Some back in sites have a covered picnic table area close to them that is shared among several sites. Only drawback to this place is the lack of shade, which doesn't exist. The rate shown is without any discount. We will stay here again when in the area. We camped at Hollywood Casino Hotel & RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Oak Creek Campground, Verona, Kentucky

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Small tight campground that is good for an overnight stay. Owners are friendly and helpful. No sewer connections and the transient pull through sites are just barely long enough for a big rig. We would stay here again for an overnight stop only. Rate shown reflects Good Sam discount. We camped at Oak Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
