Pocahontas State Park, Chesterfield, Virginia

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We made a last minute reservation for a night at this park and were glad that we did. Loved the thoughtful layout of the sites in the section we stayed in (site 77). Plenty of room to maneuver, pull through site that was fairly level (only slight adjustment needed), and a spacious tent area adjacent to the paved site. Arrived after dark but the site was well marked. 50 amp service but something caused our breaker to blow. All OK after disconnecting everything and then reconnecting. A reminder of the value of a surge protector, which we had. Very nice heated bathhouse. No on site sewer but dump station is available in the park. A bit pricey, but we would have stayed longer if we could have. Will return here for sure! We camped at Pocahontas State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Cypress Camping Resort, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here while visiting friends in the area, and wound up extending our stay to dodge some bad storms at home. The park is located right on the intercoastal waterway and just down from a swing bridge which provided a daily show of boat traffic. Site 61 is pull through and concrete but had a fair slope to work out when levelling. We had 50 amp service, cable, water, and sewer. Wifi was available but pretty weak. There was dog poop on our site that we had to clean up. We camped at Cypress Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Eagle Hammock RV Park (Military FamCamp), Kings Bay, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Best military rv park of our trip! I can see why it is rated so highly. Free laundry, cable, sewer at site, level concrete pads, thoughtful layout with wide interior road and plenty of turning space, overflow parking with shared utility post (30/50 and water), very nice community center with full kitchen, card room, and lounge area, very nice ladies room/showers with toiletries and air freshener and upholstered benches! Even a community swap shelf for trading over unwanted items to someone else who might find them useful. Nice location on a lake, and the area seems to offer a good amount of supporting business. We'll definitely stay here again! We camped at Eagle Hammock RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Raptor Ranch at Tyndall AFB (Military FamCamp), Tyndall AFB, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Lucked out and got 1 of only 2 pull through sites, #59, for 3 nights at $25 per night. Very nice facility with a friendly community feel and a community rec center built by camping volunteers. Very clean and nice showers and laundry facility! Pot luck dinners every Tuesday night. Noisy during the day due to the Raptor flights, so be prepared for that. Bears! But everyone we spoke to seemed quite casual about their presence, even the camp office personnel who just advised caution. Reports of alligators and copperheads near the waterfront trails. Would return but there is not much to do in the immediate area. Panama City Beach is about 40 minutes away! We camped at Raptor Ranch at Tyndall AFB (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area (Military FamCamp), Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed a week's stay in the Anchor Cove section of the park, site 48, which provided a sense of being in a lightly wooded glade. It was serene and picturesque (see photo, one of the best from our 6 week trip), although a bit more like "camping" than the Battleship Row section of the park. Our pull-through site was unpaved and offered no sewer hookups as in Battleship Row, but our site was very spacious and had an awesome fire pit! Someone came through the park occasionally with a trailer loaded with wood to purchase. The bathhouse was cleaned every morning and had plenty of hot water. Dump stations are available. Arriving after dark was a bit challenging due to the trees in the park and the leaves covering the unpaved "street" looked exactly like the unpaved sites. What a nice surprise to wake up to such a beautiful site! The only negatives for this park, no wifi, sewer at site would be nice, no laundry facility in Anchor Cove, a level concrete pad would be nice, no cable, only 30 amp available on our site (some sites offer 50 amp). We camped at Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.

Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp), Gulfport, Mississippi

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the "older" park section, conveniently located near the Pass Road gate, for about 10 days after buying our Airstream. We found the park staff to be very accommodating, allowing us to extend our stay on the same site. Our site was level and spacious with a concrete pad large enough for our Airstream and truck with plenty of patio space. There was a significant amount of standing water on the site following any rain, but seemed to drain/dry quickly. The bath/shower facility is very nice, even had crown molding at the ceiling! We camped at Shields RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Travel Trailer.
