Ancient Redwoods RV Park, Redcrest, California

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This seemed to be a nice little RV park. Most of the staff seemed friendly and helpful. The sites are close (maybe 10' between RVs) and there is very little privacy but I knew that beforehand. What turned my opinion of this campground to the bad side was my interactions with either the manager or the owner. The first was him unlocking the shower room and opening the door while I was unclothed and soaking wet because he had heard that there was possibly a transient in the area. Really? Is it that utterly important that a transient be denied a shower that you barge into an occupied shower? The second had to do with campground maintenance. One morning before we were leaving to go see the sights he had a string trimmer out and was whacking away at the grass and weeds on all of the sites, occupied or not. Grass clippings were flung about on our outdoor stuff and small stones thwacked against the sides and windows of the RV. After returning later that day I discovered that our outdoor mat had a corner chewed up and a note on the door saying "Oops, please come to the front office". Apparently he also runs the mower through set up sites! At the front office he offered me $20 for my troubles. When I said that it was a $65 mat and had the Amazon order up on my phone, he got irate, pulled $65 from the till and said that he had just bought the mat. I really didn't think much of it, but when I exited the office he had already (somehow) gotten to his golf cart and was literally halfway to the site to go repossess the mat. I couldn't believe it! When I confronted him about it he "graciously" offered to let us continue to use it for the rest of our stay. I wanted to like this RV park, but management soured it beyond redemption. We camped at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in a Motorhome.

The redwoods are just beautiful. There is a trail (Bull Creek South) from the big trees area toward the Grasshopper trailhead that takes you through a gorgeous redwood glade.

Grayton Beach State Park, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Love Grayton Beach SP. This is the second time we've spent Christmas here. The first time was in their cabins (really they're modern duplexes). The campsites are a short walk from the beach and a number of the campsites have direct water access for canoes/kayaks off the back of the site. The park is right along County Road 30A which has a paved bike trail along its entire length. Seaside, FL (where The Truman Show was filmed) is just a mile or two to the east. There are plenty of eateries and shops along 30A. We camped at Grayton Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

High Falls State Park, Jackson, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is quite nice, situated on the Towaliga River. There are 4 or 5 miles of trails as well as a historic site of an old hydro generating facility to explore. The waterfalls are very pretty. Our site was quiet and relaxing even though the campground was quite full. We had access to go down to the river right off of the site. The road into the campsites was quite steep, but still easily done in an RV. We definitely plan to go back. We camped at High Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park, Keystone Heights, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Local maiden voyage of our new (to us) RV. Well maintained park with a few miles of local trails and the Florida National Scenic Trail passes through about 5.5 miles of the park. There's a lot of wildlife around such as deer, turkeys and tortoises. A bike trail heads from the park into Keystone Heights where it meets up with the Palatka-Lake Butler Rail Trail, 22 miles of which is currently available. We camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in a Motorhome.
