Gordon Howe Campground, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice, popular urban park close to the city's extensive, paved riverside trail system. The campsites were close but they had nice vegetation privacy screens. Pro tip: do not drive on the grass, not even a little bit! Also, pay for your site first before parking. Management is passionate about both these points. Nice playground, but the campground regulations could read a little more kid friendly. One rule said bicycles must use bike racks and cannot simply be laid on the ground. Not sure if that rule is enforced. We camped at Gordon Howe Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Governor Thompson State Park, Crivitz, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Governor Thompson State Park is the best campground we have visited so far since we began our full time RV life in February. The bathhouse was by far the best in all respects. This State Park was built in 2000; the facilities are modern and beautifully designed. The 100 sites were either entirely in the shade or partially shaded, separated by generous privacy vegetation. Only 16 had electricity, none had water/sewer. Most appeared to be level to fairly level. The campground loops are three miles past the ranger office, and the boat launch was a little farther along. Woods Lake, close to the office, was for non-motorized craft. The only negative for us was at the dump station. The non-potable water hose used to rinse the black and gray tanks had a raw end. The male hose fitting needed to attach to our trailer's tank rinse port was missing. We reported this apparent vandalism to the park manager with a photo. The manager told us the raw hose end was intentional and required by the health department. We were further informed dump stations in all Wisconsin state parks had raw hose ends to rinse tanks. At our next Wisconsin State Park campground we found the normal male hose fitting at the dump station. No raw hose end. We paid $33/night, the $8 online reservation fee, plus the required Wisconsin park pass: non-resident annual $32 or daily $9. We camped at Governor Thompson State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Petoskey State Park/ Tannery Creek Campground, Petoskey, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful, well kept park located on the shoreline. No sites front the beach as there is a vegetation buffer. Walk north on the rocky campground beach to the very sandy main beach. Some sites are in an open grass areas and most are under mature trees in full shade. All sites appeared to be level. Amazingly there were no mosquitoes. There are lots of walking trails through the forest (no bikes). There's an access path connected to the paved Little Traverse Bay bicycle trail that runs for miles. Very nice! We would happily return. We paid $33/night plus an $8 online registration fee and $32 for the non-resident annual Michigan park recreation passport. The daily passport alternative was $9. We camped at Petoskey State Park/ Tannery Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Birding wasn't very good - maybe because everyone was on their nests. We did see a pileated woodpecker and blue jays.

LeFleurs Bluff State Park, Jackson, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

What a beautiful urban park: highly recommended. Lots of mature trees and serene lake views. We selected primitive site 1 but learned our rig was too big as the primitive sites are for tent campers. We moved to level lakefront site 19 with our 30' fifth wheel. Due to the park's very close location to interstate 55 road noise from early morning traffic was audible but not bad. We arrived after hours and the self check-in kiosk tablet gave us fits. Another camper helped us with it. The trick is to pay attention to all the required fields (with the asterisks) and remember the screen is not pressure sensitive. Just barely touch the screen with your fingertip. The camp is gated at both entrance and exit roads. The check-in process provides the five digit code you'll need (write it down) to get in and out. The code only works in this order: first at the entrance gate and then the exit gate. If you have someone following you the code will not work at the entrance gate twice in a row. The gate will not allow a second vehicle to closely follow the first. Good stuff to know! The bird watching was fine. We camped at LeFleurs Bluff State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Adolph Thomae Jr. County Park, Rio Hondo, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night on the waterfront at the end of April. We have a tall fifth wheel with slides and had to pay attention to the shade trees. We barely squeaked into our site but the careful maneuvering was worth it. Be prepared for partying families playing sweet but almost too loud music. This is clearly a favorite local fishing spot. Verizon 1-2 bars. We camped at Adolph Thomae Jr. County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The birding was good: black-bellied whistling ducks, rosette spoonbills, caracaras, caspian terns, laughing gulls, tri-colored herons, great egrets, great blue herons, and the list goes on.

Earp & James Hitching Post (formerly Lottie-Dell Campground), Snowville, Utah

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Unattended. After a bit of confusion we found the office and the envelopes to pay. Long, level pull through sites. Road noise was present but not bad.

We saw a few Killdeer, and heard owls, blackbirds and geese without really looking. We arrived late and left early.

Good place to sleep with no other options close by. Lots were very close together, gravel and dirt. We camped at Earp & James Hitching Post (formerly Lottie-Dell Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Boise Riverside RV Park, Boise, Idaho

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We had an unexpected stop in Boise for a truck repair. After reading all the reviews of nearby city campgrounds, we choose Riverside and we're glad we did. We are delighted to confirm the positive reviews of this urban RV Park. We were lucky to be assigned a space on the green belt. A shared bike path full of folks walking and riding ran between our site and the Boise river. While the river was not visible through the cottonwood trees, the regular traffic of honking, low flying Canadian geese confirmed the shoreline's near proximity. The showers and toilet stalls were super clean. The desk clerks were friendly and the maintenance men, scooting around on carts, were happy to assist with our two small requests for help. We forgot to tip them with a thick slice of my lemon pound cake. :( Yes there appear to be plenty of semi-permanent residents, but their sites were tidy (with a couple of exceptions). Yes the sites were close, but with lots of long walks and bird watching, no matter. I needed a solid WiFi connection to do some work. Immediately across the street and walking distance from the Park is the Garden City library. If you are a fan of public libraries, you'll love this one. Riverside is on our list of favorite urban RV parks. We'll be back. We camped at Boise Riverside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
