White Oak Campground, Strasburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

Positives about White Oak Campground: 1) Secluded location off main roadways with little traffic noise. 2) Shaded sites with many large trees. 3) Nice pool area. Negatives about White Oak Campground 1) Sites are way out of level with poorly graded approaches. We bottomed out our trailer just trying to drive into the pull through site. 2) Site utilities poorly laid out. Sewer connection was close, water spigot was at the far front of the space, electric was on the opposite side of the space. 3) Campground is cramped and crowded with lots of seasonals. We spent two nights at this campground, and it was average at best. While reasonably close to Lancaster, it is not a place we would choose to stay again. If the owners made the investment to level the sites and improve the approaches; this would be a much better place to stay. At $59 a night it is way overpriced. We camped at White Oak Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Manchester KOA, Manchester, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $72.00
Overall Rating:

We spent three nights at the Manchester KOA, starting on July 4th. Very nice KOA, with excellent pool facilities and excellent maintenance. Our site was a deluxe pull though with a concrete pad and patio, with wrought iron picnic table and chairs. Sites were close together, and the park was crowded for the holiday. The concrete slab was near level, with only minimal leveling required. All utilities worked well. Trash pickup at your site by KOA staff. Good place to stay, a bit on the pricey side. We camped at Manchester KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Buffalo / I-40 / Exit 143 KOA, Hurricane Mills, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We had an overnight stay at this KOA on our way to the Nashville area. Overall it was a decent place for an overnight stop; close to the Interstate. The owners were very friendly, and stopped by in the evening to visit. They also had a good recommendation for a restaurant nearby (the Log Cabin Restaurant; NOT the Loretta Lynn buffet). The site was a gravel pad, but was very uneven. I was at the top of my Anderson levelers and still not quite level. The site was also tight; I had to disconnect and park sideways to keep the road clear. I used the laundry and it worked fine; $1.50 per machine. An OK place to stay for a night. We camped at Buffalo / I-40 / Exit 143 KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Memphis KOA , Marion, Arkansas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We did an overnight stay at this KOA on our way to the Nashville area. It is typical of most KOAs, with easy access to the interstate, friendly staff and generally well maintained facilities. Large trees and lots of shade. Our particular site was a pull-through with a concrete slab. However, the slab was cracked and sunken and moderate leveling was required. One of my Anderson levelers broke in the leveling process. Our particular site was on the end of a row, and did not have a grill like the other sites. Good place to stay for a night.... We camped at Memphis KOA in a Travel Trailer.

The Family Campground On Current River (Formerly Deer Run Campground), Van Buren, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

The following comments are related to the RV sites in the office area. We did not explore the RV sites near the Current River. Positives about Deer Run Campground: 1) Our RV Space was a level concrete slab with lots of shade. Negatives about Deer Run Campground: 1) Poorly maintained campground. Piles of trash and debris everywhere. 2) There seemed to be no one on the office staff with any sense of ownership or pride in maintenance. 3) Absolute ripoff at $51 a night. Half that price would still be too much. 4) Our site was supposed to have cable TV, but the cable adapter was broken. When I mentioned to the office staff, they said "We don't have cable TV." 5) Very nasty looking pool area. Pool water in desperate need of a shock treatment. They would have to pay me $51 a night before I would even think about staying here. There are lots of decent campgrounds in this area; avoid this one. I recognize that Van Buren had massive flooding last year, but it is still a crummy campground. We camped at The Family Campground On Current River (Formerly Deer Run Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Genoa RV Park, Genoa, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Positives about Genoa RV Park: 1) Very friendly and helpful owner. 2) Long and level pull-through site; no additional leveling required. 3) FHU site with all utilities functional. 4) Quiet location about 1/4 mile away from Interstate-70. Negatives about Genoa RV Park: 1) Website states park has "lighted concrete islands" and "overhead LED lot lights for safety". Not where I stayed, folks. Best I can tell, the owner has a second RV park nearby in Genoa that has those amenities, and his plan is to eventually bring the second park (where I stayed) up to that standard. 2) Restroom/shower building was still under construction at the time of my visit. 3) Website talks about a cafe adjacent to the park, but I did not see it, nor was I looking for it. 4) $38 seems a bit pricey for the location I stayed, but there are not a lot of choices in that part of the world. In conclusion, a decent, functional and safe place to spend a night. We camped at Genoa RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Big M COE, Cassville, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Positives about Big M Campground: 1) Great deal with an America the Beautiful Pass - 50% off the total price. 2) Very friendly and helpful campground host. 3) Well maintained grounds and responsive campground staff. 4) Sites are spread out, with flat and level asphalt pads. Negatives about Big M Campground: 1) FHU sites have two 30 amp receptacles - 50 amp not available unless you have the correct "Y" adapter. 2) Power pedestal was old and tired, with several arc burns on 30 amp receptacles. 3) ~8 miles of narrow road with no shoulders to get to the campground from highway. You share the road with lots of traffic towing large boat trailers. Overall, a good place to stay with decent facilities and close access to the Big M marina. Can't beat the price with the America the Beautiful pass. If you stay in the FHU section of the campground, there is a sharp left turn required from the campground road onto the FHU loop. Lots of gouges in the asphalt from RVs cutting the corner - very easy to bottom out. We camped at Big M COE in a Travel Trailer.

Elk City State Park, Independence, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Positives: 1) Quiet location away from busy roads. 2) Most sites on this loop were shaded; ours was one of the few sites without trees. 3) FHU sites with all utilities working well.

Negatives: 1) We were at the edge of the asphalt slab (our choice) and had to do significant side-to-side leveling.

We liked this park and location, although we would pick a different site with more trees the next time around. Most of the other sites have more trees and shade, so I don't recommend Site 7. We will stay here again. We camped at Elk City State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Worlds of Fun Village, Kansas City, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Positives about Worlds of Fun RV Park: 1) Level concrete slab sites with full hookups. 2) Sites are terraced with landscaped shrubs between sites. Give a very private "feel" to the patio area. 3) Very well maintained with trash receptacle at each site.

Negatives about World of Fun RV Park: 1) Moderate traffic noise from I-435 and noise from the WOF roller coaster. The pull-through sites away from I-435 and Parvin Road have the least noise. 2) A bit on the pricey side.

One of the best RV parks we have ever visited! Highly recommended; even if you are not doing the WOF attractions. We will be back! We camped at Worlds of Fun Village in a Travel Trailer.

Diamond Campground and RV Park, Woodland Park, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Positives about Diamond RV Park: 1) Functional FHU sites. 2) Clean and functional restrooms and laundry facilities. 3) Convenient to Woodland Park shops and restaurants. Negatives about Diamond RV Park: 1) Dirty and dusty. Pine trees were pollinating, making it worse. No dust control measures. 2) Sites were tight and uneven. Side-to-side leveling required was more than moderate. Nearly impossible to park a vehicle without protruding into the access roads. 3) Lots of Hwy 67 traffic noise if your site is close to the road. 4) Some RV parks just have an intangible/intuitive "unpleasant feel". Diamond is one of those parks. I would not stay here again because of Negative #4 above. We camped at Diamond Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Kanopolis State Park - Langley Point Area, Marquette, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Positives about Langley Point: 1) Very nice FHU site on an asphalt slab. Minimal side-to-side leveling required. 2) Lots of shade trees. Negatives about Langley Point: 1) My site was a back-in, and the access road route made the backing angles a bit more challenging. 2) The park is about 8 miles from Marquette (basic groceries with one gas pump), and 20 miles from Lindsborg (much more shopping, gas groceries, restaurants). We spend two nights here, and would have spent several more had our schedule permitted. I loved the night-time, with the cicadas screaming and the fireflies out in abundance!! Will definitely go back here. We camped at Kanopolis State Park - Langley Point Area in a Travel Trailer.

High Plains Camping, Oakley, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Positives about High Plain Camping: 1) Pull-through sites that required only moderate side-to-side leveling. 2) FHU site with all utilities fully functional. 3) Two decent restaurants within walking distance; one associated with the RV park; the second with a dinner buffet. Negatives about High Plains Camping: 1) Owners acted like I was their 900th customer that day; recited their spiel from memory with little emotion. 2) Some of the campground rules are contradictory. You can only drive the right way through a one-way street. You are not allowed to drive through vacant RV spaces. However, if you drive in on a one-way street that dead ends, how do you get out without breaking "a rule"? 3) Some moderate freeway traffic noise from Interstate-70. A decent place to stay for an overnight. We camped at High Plains Camping in a Travel Trailer.

Crawford State Park, Crawford, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Positives about this RV Park: 1) Great location off the main highways with minimal traffic noise. 2) Clean, well-maintained, widely spaced, nearly level RV sites. 3) Clean and well-maintained shower and restroom facilities. Negatives about this RV park: 1) Minimal cell phone service. AT&T had no service; Verizon had barely minimal service. 2) Too bad State rules allow you to stay only 2 weeks at a time; otherwise we would still be there. We will be back at Crawford State Park again! Loved it! We camped at Crawford State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Park is located about 10 miles from the North Rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison. There are several pull-through sites along the lakeshore that we highly recommend. Check out the site map and look at sites #22 thru #37. About 12 miles to drive into Hotchkiss for groceries, gas, hardware, etc. The one gas station in Crawford charges 40 - 50 cents a gallon more that if you drive in to Hotchkiss, or go further into Delta.

Blue Mesa Escape, Gunnison, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Positives about this RV Park: 1) Great view of Blue Mesa Reservoir; especially in the odd-numbered RV spaces where you park facing the water. 2) Friendly family-run operation. 3) RV sites are all pull-throughs. Negatives about this RV park: 1) Spaces are tight, you feel like you are right on top of your neighbors (this would be a positive if two RVs were traveling together). 2) Minimal landscaping on RV sites; no trees or shrubs; surface is dirt, rocks, gravel and weeds. 3) Moderate leveling required for the RV site; ground between sites rocky and very uneven in places. A good place to stay with close access to Blue Mesa Reservoir and associated boating and fishing activities. It is a 25 mile drive east into Gunnison to find reasonable groceries, shopping, restaurants and gasoline. We camped at Blue Mesa Escape in a Travel Trailer.

If you reserve an odd-numbered RV space (#1, 3, 5, 7, or 9), your normal pull-through direction has you facing the lake. Owners allow you to park facing the lake in the even-numbered spaces (#2, 4, 6, 8, 10); just make sure you have hoses and power cable for the longer hook-ups.

Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa RV Park, Ojo Caliente, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The major positive factor for this RV park is access to the Ojo Caliente hot springs, although access to the pools is not included in the RV space rental. The RV park itself looks like it was laid out by someone who had no idea of RV requirements. Most of the water/electric hookups are located on the wrong side, so extra long water hoses and electric cords are required. The RV spaces are often difficult to identify. Many spaces are in heavily wooded areas with tight corners for larger rigs. Spaces are basically bare dirt and not level; some had considerable mud holes. Our water hookup had an odd attachment that leaked continually; even after I double-gasketed the connection. The overall park location is great, next to a stream and in the woods for the most part. Off the highway, isolated, quiet. Despite the shortcomings it is a place we will return with our 33-foot Airstream. We camped at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The hot springs is the main attraction; the restaurant is also very good; both are on the pricey side. Weekend rate for the hot spring entry is $38/person, extra for locker rental. A nice dinner for two, with appetizer, main course and dessert will run you over $100. One small convenience store in Ojo Caliente with expensive groceries and gas. Otherwise you will be driving 20-25 miles into Espanola for groceries, reasonably priced fuel and Walmart.
