Cannon Beach RV Resort, Cannon Beach, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

What a total circus! People and their junk spread out everywhere...even in the roads! Unsupervised kids all over the place on skateboards, bikes and roller skates. Corn hole and other yard games blocking the roadways. Some sites looked like yard sales with everything the people owned scattered outside their RVs. Some had a full cord of firewood ready and waiting to fill the air with thick smoke. Cars and trucks parked anywhere and everywhere. A total waste of time if relaxation is at all important to you. Quiet time not enforced during our stay. Cell service nearly non-existent and park wifi is useless. We camped at Cannon Beach RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Winchester Bay RV Resort, Winchester Bay, Oregon

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Staff is friendly. Park is well-kept. Setting is remarkable. One thing needs to change, however. The policy of allowing campfires is an enormous draw back. The wind here rarely ceases, and dry fire wood seems to be unobtainable in Oregon. The result is a camp "fire" that consists of 90% smoke and 10% flame. The prevailing wind pollutes the campground with acrid smoke for hundreds of yards around the offending site. Nobody benefits from this outdated policy. Please consider your options here. Skip the camp fire and your neighbors will be able to enjoy their visit. Otherwise, this is a great park. Thank you. We camped at Winchester Bay RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Emerald Desert RV Resort, Palm Desert, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $137.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very beautiful, high-end luxury level park, and the price reflects that. The park uses an airline industry style "dynamic pricing" system that will leave you mind boggled. Supply and demand is how they will describe it, but the concept of maximum profit for the park is all that you will understand. This park has everything that you could ever desire, so we won't go on and on about that. Just know that if you aren't happy here, other than with the price, then you just plain cannot be happy. We camped at Emerald Desert RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Another CA state beach campground, pretty much just like all the rest. Only providing the basics, and at a high price. Again, no dogs allowed on the beach, as instructed by a rude park ranger guy, but lots and lots of dogs were on the beach that evening, and with no enforcement at all. No sewer at site. No power at sight, so lots of generator noise. Not a whole lot to do if you don't have a tow vehicle with you, as walking distances are considerable. All-in-all, this is the only SoCal state beach campground that earns a rating over a two from us. Mostly due to the fact that they have an actual beach that you can access rather than just cliffs. Not a lot of choices for RVers in the area, so if you must... We camped at Doheny State Beach in a Motorhome.

South Carlsbad State Beach, Carlsbad, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

This is just another example of the failed attempts made by CA state to bilk dollars from campers while providing only the basics at a ridiculous price. Most sites, including ours, are nothing but dry, powdery dirt that tracks everywhere. Views are nice, but you are up on a high cliff, so accessing the rocky beach is not an easy task for some. Once again...no dogs allowed on the beach. Our site was in a row of eight empty sites, so we got one good night's sleep before some inconsiderate neanderthal rolled in the next morning twenty feet away and set up his mega-camp. Camping etiquette rule number two, broken again. Homeless people in the site across from ours didn't make for a great experience either. Lastly, the campfire smoke will nearly choke you out if the wind isn't just right. Skip it. We camped at South Carlsbad State Beach in a Motorhome.

Dockweiler RV Park, Playa del Rey, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

We have to begin with the airplane noise. Holy cow!!!!! The incessant, round-the-clock take-offs from LAX will rattle the fillings out of your teeth!!!! This alone is a good enough reason to skip this place, which is essentially only a sandy asphalt parking lot with line painted on it. You won't see the ocean from your site because the idiots at LA County have dozed a fifteen foot sand berm between the shore and the campground to assure that. The showers are on the cold side of luke-warm and they emit water in needle-like jets that are painful to your skin. Annoying, bright lights are on all pedestals and illuminate your sleeping are even with blinds closed. Security is an issue and homeless people sleep by the bathroom at the bike trail, which has no barrier to the campground. Noisy, inconsiderate weekend partiers come in and take over the place with no consequences although they have all-night "security" in place. Campers pulling towable clutter the roads with their trucks and make the place look like a car lot. We couldn't wait to get out of this place. Hated it! We camped at Dockweiler RV Park in a Motorhome.

Golden Shore RV Resort, Long Beach, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

There are so many things that we loved about this park, we aren't sure where to begin! Let's see...there was the incredibly loud music, the falling-down drunken guests, people walking through our site daily, the muddy sites, the extremely rude office staff, the sparsely-stocked "store", the un-enforced list of rules, the plethora of full-time residents with all of their junk everywhere, the cold heated pool, the homeless population right outside the fences, the sleepless nights due to noise, the light pollution, the loud highway right outside the property, guests using the "no-dog" areas to have their dogs poop and (this bears repeating) the EXTREMELY rude office staff. What a wonderful place! Skip it and the aggravation. We camped at Golden Shore RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Potrero County Park, Potrero, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Nothing special here. We pulled in after dark and had the special experience of listening to , once again, the loud and obnoxious behavior of weekend warriors whooping it up in grand style without care or consideration for their neighbors. Essentially, an asphalt parking spot in the area we stayed in. We didn't even bother hooking up, as we stayed only one night and left early in the am. The roads in the area will leave you white-knuckled as you make you way through the winding canyon with aggressive CA drivers three feet off your rear bumper. We camped at Potrero County Park in a Motorhome.

Silver Strand State Beach, Coronado, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Nothing more than a sandy parking lot with partial hookups and a view of the typical CA State beach 15' sand berm blocking the ocean views. No effort is made to clean the lot of sand accumulation, making for slippery and unsafe conditions for bicyclists. This is not camping, people! We camped at Silver Strand State Beach in a Motorhome.

Mission Bay RV Resort, San Diego, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

This entire De Anza Cove area is a has-been mish-mash of neglect and abandonment. The 700-space abandoned and delapitated trailer park that this park sits in the middle of is absolutely atrocious. The RV park roadways are cluttered with row after row of tow vehicles squeezed in front of inadequately-sized sites, making for a true eyesore. The shower/bathroom buildings are a throwback from a bygone era where everything was constructed of cinderblock like a cold and foreboding detention center. Staff routinely blocks the men's room doors open, regardless of the outside temps, making for a freezing cold shower experience and the water takes a full five minutes to warm up. The clubhouse and surrounding area are disgraceful and the community LP grill is filled with rust and spider webs. The adjacent public park is a favorite for the area homeless population, making for a very sketchy experience. Lock up all of your belongings if you value them. All dog owners are expected to use one rusty old urine-stained side gate to take their pets out for potty stops and the entire area reeks of aging dog pee. It is disgusting. Loud music, large party gatherings and inconsiderate weekend warrior neighbors just put the icing on the cake, making this an absolute "skip it" on our list. We camped at Mission Bay RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Chula Vista RV Resort, Chula Vista, California

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $85.00
Overall Rating:

This is an aesthetically appealing park in what appears to be a former industrial area. Right outside the gates are vast fenced parking lots filled with new cars destined for dealerships and a daily parade of semis picking them up. There isn't much to do in the immediate area and, if you are not traveling with a tow vehicle and are dependent on a bicycle for transportation, be prepared for some long, long rides. There really aren't any conveniences within walking distance other than one restaurant in the marina with mostly bar food cuisine at rather high prices. When selecting a site, you will be tempted to take the bay view and pay the extra, but beware of the fact that the public park behind your site is extremely busy and the road that visitors use will pass within ten to twenty feet of your rig. The vehicle noise can, at times, be very disturbing. People were racing up and down the road and some were sleeping in their cars as well. Theft in the area is a huge concern, so bring an assortment of locks with you if you plan to have anything of value outside of your RV. Additionally, the onshore breeze often carries the pungent odor of marijuana with it. We witnessed some concerning behaviors in that park during our stay that made us wish that the aging iron fence between us had a row of barbed wire on top of it. Sites are nicely spaced, so you won't feel crammed in like at some other parks. The incredibly loud thumping of military helicopters flying overhead nearly every night became very tiresome to us. This ran from about 4pm until 9 pm at least Monday through Thursday and was very annoying. We became bored with the area after a few days and went on our way. We camped at Chula Vista RV Resort in a Motorhome.
