We enjoyed the site, it was pull through and a good size. Nice little area for a fire. Hook up was right next to trailer. Problems: Massive amounts of teenagers were camping there. In massive groups of tents just a few sites down from ours. Each day it seemed a new large group would show up. They were loud and would hang out in groups. The problem came when it was bathroom time. They have ONE toilet and it was CO-ED! What on earth is this about? We spent two nights there and left after the second because we couldn't tolerate the pee smell on the floor. Often there was a line up for this co-ed washroom, mostly the tenters that were in groups. Showers were fun too. Couldn't hardly turn around in them, and there was just ONE female shower and one male. At least they weren't a co-ed facility too! But often a lineup to use these as well. I have never before seen this kind of set up. One toilet for a Campground? At least for this entire half of the CG, as we couldn't see any other in sight. We also got charged for each extra kid, and this is the biggest pet peeve of mine. They did some music in the bathroom facility, that distracted your sense of smell for a moment. It said hot tub in the guide, but then discovered it was $5 to use. Wouldn't use it anyways, since there was always teens in there. If you have an enclosed larger RIG and don't need to use the facilities then this place was ok. I didn't see anything for the kids to do, like many other CG's have... no arcade, no pool, no swimming on the lake way down the road. The park was ok, but again, too many rambunctius teens showing off on it.

There was only a few campgrounds to choose from in the area and we wanted to stay close to Halifax. It looked good at the office, picked our site, stayed 3 nights. Couldn't tolerate anymore. First of all, it was very expensive. The pool was half full, and GREEN. Couldn't use it. Pool table kept malfunctioning and taking my kids money. The washrooms might as well have been a hole in the ground, and the shower could have been just as good as a hose. It wasn't closed to the nature, and rain, bugs would come in at their own free will. One night it rained and everything right down to the toilet paper and toilet seats were soaked. Couldn't sit down (being female its more difficult). Garbage was sometimes thrown around and the hand dryer didn't work most of the time. With the sun rise, out came a guy cutting wood with a chain saw for hours.. located a fair distance away, but the sound woke you up from dead sleep, felt like I was living a scene from "friday the 13th". It was fairly quiet otherwise and we had some privacy as there wasn't anyone else camping near us. I guess they were all at the other campground.

I am very displeased with Hartts island resort. The service was not friendly. They tried to charge us $5 dollars for a 6 year old, a 4 year old and a 2 year old. They wanted an extra $15 dollars for our kids. They told us that the next CG was 25 minutes away. This was inaccurate, unless your driving about 20K's per hour. Then she tried to tell us that EVERYTHING in the CG was an extra fee. I was upset. My kids sat and looked at all the activities that they had there. I couldn't afford anything else. I have kids! I just threw the CG brochure on the front seat and we sat in our site all night long. A few days later after leaving, I read the print, the basketball hoops and the splash pool were free! FREE! The blond girl at the office told my husband and my son that EVERYTHING came at a fee. $6 per hour! I am so unhappy with this place. A few lies and few misleading comments. We were going to stay 3 nights. Stayed one, and it was the most expensive site we have EVER stayed at. I can understand a block fee of $2-5 for extra children per site, but per kid of $5.00? Are they crazy? These are children belonging to families which have paid a good price to camp at your campground. Give us a little breathing space. There is no reason to charge that kind of money. I have e-mailed them after the trip, and they told me that the two year old would be free. But they did NOT tell us that when we were standing in the line to pay! The second e-mail, in which I mentioned all my complaints, they did NOT respond. Other then that, place was clean and well organized. But service means a lot too.

We showed up here without reservations. There were NO sites available. After explaining our situation (car malfunctioning, no campsites around, from Ontario) the nice man put us in their over-flow area with no hookups and across from washroom, no picnic table. We were glad to take this site, it was offered at a reduced price of just 12 dollars. This sure beats the other CG in Red Deer which was very rude and wouldn't allow a "tent" to park there. Let me tell you, that this site and this bathroom were better then any other that we have ever stayed at! The sites (or non-sites if we should call it that) were HUGE, manicured, spotless, level ground. Green grass, partly shaded. The bathrooms were spotless, large with great clean family sized showers. I'd stay there again, in over-flow, in a second! About 4 other massive rigs pulled up beside us during the evening and we still had lots of room. Us in the tent, next to a massive BUS. It was bizarre, but really cool at the same time! The small talk we made with the travellers beside us was priceless! There was also a nice little trail located behind the park, that runs along the river there. Good work lions club!
