Kritter's Northcountry Campground and Cabins, Newberry, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2011 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is for pull through water and 30 amp electric site with SKP discount, but with an additional $2 for use of our air conditioner. Access roads gravel, some dust, and sites are fairly level grass. Outside loop has an evergreen tree that needs to be trimmed that pinches you between a fence and the tree. Had a power interruption twice during our stay. Restrooms and laundry are centrally located, $1.50 per load to wash. Satellite reception okay at a number of the sites, but Verizon reception very poor. We would stay here again. We camped at Kritter's Northcountry Campground and Cabins in a Motorhome.

Elkhart County Fairgrounds, Goshen, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2011 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is for 50 amp FHU back-in site based on weekly rate. This site was in the non rally section at the very front of the Fairgrounds. Roads and pads were gravel and were level. The back to back sites are open so good satellite as well as Verizon reception. Park Wi-Fi efficiency is variable depending on the size of the rally being held in the main fairgrounds area. This park makes a great base to see the area and we would definitely stay here again. We camped at Elkhart County Fairgrounds in a Motorhome.

Kentucky Horse Park Campground, Lexington, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2011 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is for 50 amp electric and water back-in site. Road and pad were asphalt. Large site with plenty of room. Site had fire ring and table. Excellent Verizon cellphone and 3G reception. Numerous trees prevented satellite reception at our site, but there are many open sites in this large RV park if need your satellite. Discounts available for Horse Park next door, and has easy access to the freeway. Great value for the money and we would definitely stay again. We camped at Kentucky Horse Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Grandma's RV Camping, Shepherdsville, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2011 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is for 50 amp FHU pull-through site. No discounts given. Roads are asphalt, sites are fine gravel and narrow with not all sites being long enough for big rigs. Excellent satellite and Verizon cell phone reception. Park Wi-Fi was adequate, but slowed appreciably in the early evenings. As stated previously, most sites are too narrow for having awnings out by side by side RV's. Recessed water connection can be a pain to connect, and we watched other arrivals struggle with this, as you have to get down on your hands and knees to connect the hose to the valve. Compared to the other parks nearby, this was a good value for the money, and we would certainly stay here again. We camped at Grandma's RV Camping in a Motorhome.

Green Acres RV Resort, Savannah, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2011 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is for FHU back-in site with SPK discount. Gravel roads and pads with grass between sites. Gravel pad was narrow and recent rains caused us to have to be all the way to one side not to sink in due to the gravel not being thick. Our site was high and dry but neighbors had to walk through water to reach their tow vehicle. Electric went out several times during our stay. We would stay here again if in the area, but only due to its proximity to Shiloh Battlefield, which isn't all that close. All in all, this park is an excellent value for the rate we paid. We camped at Green Acres RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Benchmark RV Park, Meridian, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2011 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is for 50 amp FHU pull through site with PA discount. Cash only for PA discount. Roads and site are gravel with long, open pull throughs. Good satellite and Verizon reception. Negative was a large diesel spill on a nearby site that was there during our three night stay. The smell outside was very strong and nothing was ever done to remove the contaminated soil. We would stay here again. We camped at Benchmark RV Park in a Motorhome.

Grand Gulf Military Monument Park, Port Gibson, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2011 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is based on weekly rate for FHU 50 amp site. Roads are asphalt, pads are concrete, and are located on two levels, with a short steep hill up to the upper level. We stayed on the upper level and had good satellite and Verizon coverage from our site, which was the pull through at the top of the hill. There are a number of permanents who work at the nearby nuclear power plant, but they are all in the upper area. While some distance from Port Gibson the park has a great museum and other exhibits relating to the history of the area and Civil War battle fought here. The staff was the best we have ever experienced, and we would definitely stay again in this hidden gem of an RV park. We camped at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park in a Motorhome.

Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2011 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is daily rate for FHU 50 amp pull through site with GS discount, payment made at checkout. While part of the Ameristar Casino, it is on the opposite side of the road, with access through an area that may have semi trucks partially blocking the the road as they make deliveries which was the case with our arrival. The park is open with no shade, has excellent satellite and Verizon wire coverage. Free Wi-Fi which was excellent, plus regular drive throughs by the casino courtesy van. Close to the Vicksburg Military Park and downtown, which was why we stayed here. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rate is for 30 amp water and electric only site. Asphalt pad, slight amount of leveling requires, no shade, though many sites have shade. Excellent satellite and Verizon wireless reception. Wide spacing between sites and dump station in the park. Excellent historical exhibits in the park and also nearby. Paved access roads are easily navigated. A great park that we will definitely be back to again. We camped at Goliad State Park in a Motorhome.

Retama Village (55+ park), Palmview, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2011 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is promotional free stay rate for FHU back-in. Sites are wide and level concrete with a small coach house. Many sites are rented to Winter Texans by the owners of the lots. Has a very nice clubhouse and pool area. Lot owners and renters made us feel like we belonged and included us in their activities. Near the World Birding Center as well as the World Butterfly Center. Sales presentation/tour was very low key with no pressure whatsoever. Has 55 plus age restriction. We camped at Retama Village (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Alamo Fiesta RV Resort, Boerne, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2011 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is daily rate for FHU pull thru 50 amp site. Roads and sites are paved. We were very close to office in a level pull through premium site. Sites are well spaced for a private park. In retrospect one of there less expensive sites nearer the back of the park would have been just as good, as the office apparently tries to fill the more expensive sites first. We used it for a quick overnight stop and it was adequate for that, though most of the sites appeared to be occupied by seasonals. Low tree branches scraped the roof on the way out of the park. Make sure you do not leave your antenna or satellite dish up as there are very low bridges at the freeway entrances near the park. (Fortunately several park resident's flagged us down as we were leaving when we left ours up.) We would stay here again. We camped at Alamo Fiesta RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tye RV Park, Tye, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2011 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is nightly rate for FHU 30 amp pull thru site. Dirt/gravel roads and sites typical of this part of Texas. They no longer offer PA discounts, but have adjusted overall rates downward according to office. Yes, as other reviewers have stated, there are low flying fighter aircraft from the nearby Air Force Base, but they are keeping our country safe, plus there were very few landings and takeoffs during our stay. Good overnight stop, though if you are sensitive to noise, it may not be the place for you. We would stay here again. We camped at Tye RV Park in a Motorhome.

Interesting historical exhibits in the park. We would stay here again. We camped at Fort Richardson State Historical Park in a Motorhome.

Lone Star Corral - Escapees Park (members only), Hondo, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2011 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is daily rate for SKP's, 50 amp full hookup, back-in site, electric extra, which has been added to the base daily rate for this review. Paved roads and pads, all sites are back-in, escorted to site. They are very precise about where you are to park your rig, as many of the pads are of a very thin asphalt type construction. You must put boards under your jacks. Numerous activities and very friendly people as is typical at all Escapee parks. We camped at Lone Star Corral - Escapees Park (members only) in a Motorhome.

Mission West RV Resort, Palmview, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2011 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is daily rate for 30 amp back-in site with PA discount. Roads are paved, though a lack of maintenance is showing. All sites are back-in. No shade. This is one of those parks that has the word resort in its name, and depending on what that word means to you, either it is or isn't. Nice big hall in the center of the park, four or five activities planned each day, decent sized sites and security gate. As usual, the Passport America sites were in the least desirable spots, in this case alongside the front fence backed up to the main road outside the park, so motorhomes face the afternoon sun and 5th wheels get to view the street. The other sites in the park face east/west. We found nothing remarkable about the park, good or bad, and the Passport rate makes it fairly inexpensive to check out for a few days, and since the park was only about 2/3rds full in mid February, there were decent sites to move onto if you wanted to stay for a longer period of time. We camped at Mission West RV Resort in a Motorhome.
