Belle Starr COE, Stigler, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

The "new" pull through sites are amazing!! They do lock the gate at night with no provision to get in (there is an emergency exit with the "Don't back up tire spikes"). We camped at Belle Starr COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Coles Creek Campground, Carlyle, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

Very strange experience. Every other COE campground where we have stayed the "Standard Electric" designation implied both an electric hook-up and a water spigot. In this campground the only potable water was at just a few spigots (2?) in each loop and at the dump station. And at the dump station the "cleaning water" spigot was painted the bright blue that every other location uses for the potable water. When I tested the electric pedestal at site 85 my surge protector showed that the L1 circuit had reversed polarity. I tested several other pedestals and found multiple ones with either open grounds or others with reversed polarity. The camp host assured me that the maintenance man would be down to check it out. When he hadn't showed up within an hour I persuaded her to move me to another site. She of course scoffed that there could be any problem because their 'electrical guy is certified'. Sorry, but circuit testers don't lie either. And the maintenance man never did show up though the ranger did come around a couple of hours later to make sure we had power in our new site. Nice campground with huge spaces. Just be sure to get in the first loop if you want a water hookup and check the power pedestal. We camped at Coles Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Hernando Point - COE, Hernando, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

Our site (29) was right on the shore. Beautiful sunsets. And a nice breeze all day. The site was a "little" tight with trees on both sides but once we were parked the trees gave us good shade all day. We camped at Hernando Point - COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Charlestown State Park, Charlestown, Indiana

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The park was nearly deserted, less than 10 sites occupied, thus it was VERY quiet. Nice paved parking pads. Most of them are indeed 45 feet or less in length. There are a very few sites that were longer. Not much other than the campground, a few picnic areas, a boat launch on the Ohio River and some hiking trails. We camped at Charlestown State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Spring Mill State Park, Mitchell, Indiana

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The park was nearly deserted in mid week in mid April. The campground was very clean. Not very many of the sites are big rig friendly. Many of the sites are at right angle to the rather narrow roads. In the wooded parts of the campground several trees were VERY close to the inside of the curves which made driving through nerve wracking. Our site was level side to side but bring lots of hose to hook up to the water. We camped at Spring Mill State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Pioneer Village is very interesting with an original mill built in 1817 (thus the name of the park). Very affordable buffet dinner available at the park lodge (Spring Mill Inn).
