Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park, Mancos, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

The number one draw of this RV Park is that it's directly across the highway from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park - with the view of the mesa. I was in a new section of "big rig" sites. Unfortunately, they squished too many of them together in the "sardines in a can" fashion. The older back-in sites seemed to have more room. If they had just done one less site in the row, they would have been perfect. Oh well. Otherwise, lots of good things about this park besides the view. Seasonal pool, community "patio" with the perfect view of the mesa, very nice staff, easy on/off Hwy 160, close to Cortez for a quick run in to get dinner, groceries, etc. Despite the drawbacks of too close proximity in the Big Rig sites, I would stay here again for the convenience of Mesa Verde. We camped at Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park in a Motorhome.

Goulding's Lodge & Campground, Oljato-Monument Valley, Utah

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

The views alone are worth the price - and the price I paid is for a premium Big Rig site. There are less expensive sites, all the way down to tent sites. The RV Park is part of the Goulding's complex along with the Lodge, museum, restaurant, grocery store, "suites" (1-2 bedroom park model houses), etc. Sites are long enough, but park staff asks that you unhook a towed vehicle prior to making the final turn into the site. No problem just getting the RV in, and then the car parks next to the RV with lots of room for Picnic table, patio, etc. Access to everything about Monument Valley is at the park office. We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Sign up for one of the many guided tours. Many to choose from, but I recommend the half-day tour if you have limited time. Everything you see is one breath-taking view after another! The restaurant on the property is good. Goulding's is famous because Harry Goulding convinced John Ford to make movies here. John Wayne's cabin from "Stagecoach" is part of the museum, as well as a "movie room". Every night a full-length feature of one of the John Wayne movies is shown. This place is AMAZING!

Point of Rocks RV Campground, Prescott, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Have stayed here many times. The park is tucked into the Granite Dells above Prescott and the area is beautiful. Not fancy, i.e. no pool, no fenced dog park, but it's perfect for the views and the peaceful quiet. Close to town. Depending on traffic, you might have to wait to turn left out of the park onto Highway 89, but never for more than a minute or two. Pull-throughs are long enough to not unhook, but most sites are back-in. Back-ins are deep enough for the largest rig, and wide enough to park your towed vehicle next to the RV with plenty of room for picnic table, etc. We camped at Point of Rocks RV Campground in a Motorhome.

Phippen Museum dedicated to the art and artists of the area. The Sharlot Hall Museum downtown Prescott. A must place to eat in town is The Palace! Sadly, Prescott is home of the Granite Mountain Hotshots; 19 wildfire fighters that perished fighting the Yarnell Fire. Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park is worth the hour trip south down Hwy 89.

Fort Stockton RV Park, Fort Stockton, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

This is a favorite quaint RV park and I've stayed here numerous times over the years. As RVing has gotten more popular, they have expanded with big rig sites, upgraded wifi to today's RVer needs, etc. Sites include cable and wifi. The little Roadrunner Cafe onsite is a great place for some Mom & Pop style cooking after a day on the road. Was not disappointed on this trip as it's gotten bigger and better than my last stay. Will definitely come again - and again, and again! We camped at Fort Stockton RV Park in a Motorhome.

As you can tell from the address this used to be a KOA. Not sure why it's no longer one but it's KOA's loss. Fort Stockton is a historic town with museums, etc. all about the area and the "taming of west Texas". It's also a major energy Hub in west Texas with lots of info about energy - from oil/gas to wind farms to solar. Very interesting place to check out!

South Llano River RV Park & Resort, Junction, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Just an overnight stay while on the road. First site I could not level side-to-side, so they gladly moved me. There are 4 sites that give them trouble when it has stormed due to runoff, but they are aware and try to keep them level. Very nice staff. Not a lot of amenities, but this is a good quiet getaway or overnight stop when on the road. Easy in/out from I-10 in Junction, TX. We camped at South Llano River RV Park & Resort in a Motorhome.

Stone Creek RV Park, Schertz, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Wintered over here. Decent monthly rate ($460), plus electric (reasonable rate). This park has the best dog parks I've seen. One for big dogs with agility equipment, picnic table and benches for the humans. Separate park for dogs under 25 pounds with appropriately sized agility equipment. Adult pool/hot tub area is always clean. Family pool is closed for winter. There are 2 parts to this park. The "nicer" side has shaded concrete patio areas, etc. Very nice. There are many permanent residents in this park, and they are separated from the seasonal/short-term RVers. Activities during the winter. Close to everything you'd want to see/do in/around San Antonio. Now to the "other" side. It's "adequate". Sardine-style RV sites. Fortunately, I had good neighbors. Many are military as this park is very close to Randolph AFB. The fighters jets fly overhead every day M-F. You get used to their sound, and actually miss it on the weekend. There were some short-term, not so great neighbors. 90% of the time, all was well. That 10% with some "shady" neighbors involved theft of equipment from several of the RVs, including opening bay doors and stealing propane tanks from 5th wheels. We all learned to lock our stuff. We camped at Stone Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tucson / Lazydays KOA, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This place defines RESORT. It has multiple pools and multiple dog walks, including ones tucked into corners that aren't even on the park map. Dog wash, sites with private off-leash, fenced w/shaded dog park. BBQ restaurant onsite with authentic Texas BBQ. WIDE sites, most with a fruit tree (yes, the lemons were GOOD). Camp store, etc., etc. If they added a Beauty/Barber shop, doctor/dentist office, you'd never have to leave. But you SHOULD leave to go see all the wonderful things to see in the Tucson area! We camped at Tucson / Lazydays KOA in a Motorhome.

Tombstone RV Park and Campground, Tombstone, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park close to all the fun things in Tombstone. The park provides a shuttle if you don't want to drive yourself to see everything (driver works on tips, otherwise no cost). Remembering that this is high desert area, there's no grass, but excellent xeroscaping with a desert flair in all the sites, and throughout the park. Sites are level and large enough for your rig and for parking your vehicle next to the rig. Plenty of room for the picnic table and hanging out with the family around the campfire ring, which is available at the office with the purchase of firewood. There is also horse camping in a separate area. Pool area is very nice, opens early in the season, but is not heated. There is a fenced dog park - again, desert so no grass, but it is nicely done in typical desert landscaping so your furry friend should be quite comfortable using it. Park is easy in/out right on Arizona 80. Lots of family friendly things to do in the park. We camped at Tombstone RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Boot Hill Cemetery, Big Nose Kate's (rumor is what happens there, stays there), take the stagecoach tour, don't miss the Courthouse/museum. If you love history, the Earp brothers/Doc Holiday, and the OK Corral, don't miss Tombstone! And if you are there in April, do NOT miss the largest (Yes, Guinness World Records says so!) Rose "Tree" in the world while it's in bloom. It's spectacular! Also close to Bisbee (see the mine) and Sierra Vista (shopping).

Hacienda RV Resort, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

Probably my favorite RV Park anywhere. I've stayed here multiple times over several years. Big Rig friendly, very pet friendly with multiple fenced dog walk areas so if you're little furry family member doesn't play with with big dogs, everyone has their own space. There's so much good about this RV Resort that it's way too long to put here. Check it out for yourself and don't forget all the things to do in the area! Peacock Meadows Riverside RV Park, South Fork, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Newest RV Park in the South Fork area. There are some signs it's new - like the dog park fence looks only days old, it's cleaned and scrubbed of weeds, etc., but is still dirt. However, from the pile next to the park, they are working hard on giving it a surface that will be dog friendly, yet doable in rain/other weather, and still survivable in high mountain areas where grass just doesn't grow well. Fishing pond and access to the Rio Grande River fishing with nice walkable trails (dogs welcome on trails). Rec Hall doubles as a "Saloon" Thursday - Saturday nights with live music and/or karaoke. Sites are gravel and level. Excellent wifi, strong cell signal area. One of the few open all year (and engineered for it!) as it's the closest to Wolf Creek Ski Area as well as many other winter sports areas. Friendly, helpful owners available even after hours. I recommend this park for both short stays and for longer term stays in a great recreation area. We camped at Peacock Meadows Riverside RV Park in a Motorhome.

Mountain View RV Resort, Canon City, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

Million dollar views! Well engineered park so each site can take advantage of those views. Strong wifi, strong cell service area if you'd rather use your hotspot. 50/30 amp service, full hookups, gravel roads in good condition, level sites, concrete patios with brand new picnic tables, WIDE sites for any number of slide-outs your rig might have. Easy in-out off US 50. 5 miles to everything that is Royal Gorge and less than 7 miles to the "civilization" of Canon City (several groceries, Walmart Supercenter, etc). No pool but multiple "play" areas for both adults and kids (bocce ball, basketball, playground). Dog walk not fenced in but very large. Owners/staff friendly and go above and beyond in every way to be helpful. I definitely recommend this RV Park. We camped at Mountain View RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Cotopaxi / Arkansas River KOA, Cotopaxi, Colorado

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

They opened for the season on April 6, and they weren't ready. There were so many things wrong, including things like trees growing less than 3 feet above firepits (none of the trees had been trimmed and getting my rig through the park road involved a lot of tree-dodging), water connections that were broken and I had to use pliers to turn it and get water, and I called to confirm and was told that yes, they do have wifi - when I checked in I was told that no, the only wifi is at the office and at the closer sites that can pick up the office wifi because their repeaters were hit by lightning, they had the new ones but they've been busy and haven't bothered to install them yet. Fortunately, I took pictures of the problems to back up my claims. Why is that important? When I went to the office with the problems, I was told to get out of the office or the woman (who claimed to be a manager but refused to give me her name) would call the police and have me removed. Then another camper who was in the office/"rec" area playing pool threatened me to get out because "You don't belong here. You're not one of us." Needless to say, I got out. There are many other nice places to stay along this beautiful stretch of the Arkansas River. But NOT this one!!! We camped at Cotopaxi / Arkansas River KOA in a Motorhome.
