Townsite Campground (Parks Canada), Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The campground is well-maintained. It could have been cleaner, but given that they were at full capacity, the staff was doing as good a job as possible. Sites are close together, but we lucked out with site A25 at the end of a row, giving us more lawn room. Beauty abounds, with views of the lakes and mountains on all sides. We enjoyed the interpretive programs, especially from the Blackfoot people. Our site had full hookups, which is beyond what we expected in a National Park. Smoke from the nearby wildfires was a factor, but not a deal breaker. We camped at Townsite Campground (Parks Canada) in a Travel Trailer.

Take the boat trip tour of Lower Waterton Lake, it was well worth it. We went to high tea at the Prince of Wales Hotel. Great tea with an incredible view of the lake and mountains.

Glacier Mist RV Park, Cut Bank, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We were a little wary when we drove in, because parts of the campground seem run down and there are several shabby mobile homes on the premises. However, appearances are deceiving and we wound up with a nice level site that was easy to back into, full hookups, clean showers and convenient laundry facility. The staff here were very friendly and helpful. We met several other campers and found them friendly as well. The vibe here is laid back and friendly. There are a fair number of people living here that work in the area. We camped at Glacier Mist RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Laura Lake Nicolet National Forest Campground, Armstrong Creek, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

This is a scenic and quiet campground with lovely, well-situated sites. A 5-mile access road led us to believe we might be getting a little further off the beaten path than we wanted, but our fears were put to rest when we arrived. We found a picturesque setting with large, level sites, and an friendly and helpful camp host. Warning: there is no dump station, and the fresh water spigot is not threaded, preventing the attachment of a hose to fill your fresh water tank. We happen to carry a rubber adaptor for just this kind of situation and so were able to fill our tank, though we got a little wet in the process! A wide, mossy footpath lies between all the lakeside sites and the lake, allowing a very pleasant promenade along the water and the opportunity to greet your fellow campers. A lovely campground, and we're sorry we can only stay one night. We camped at Laura Lake Nicolet National Forest Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Au Train Lake Campground, Au Train, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for two nights with another couple, who had the adjacent site. Our site was HUGE, level and easy to get into. The roads leading to and into the campground were easy to navigate. Our site was away from the water, and we were happy to be were we were. The sites on the water were much busier and noisier. It's a very popular campground and were happy to have the "quiet corner." The campground hosts greeted us and chatted with us for a good half hour - very pleasant and helpful. We swam in the lake. The water was clean, though very shallow at the beach so you have to walk out a way to get to deep water. There is no dump station. The hosts told us we could dump at the Bay Furnace campground, 10 miles away, which we did. This was in the opposite direction from our next destination so a bit of a nuisance. We camped at Au Train Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Enormous sites, mostly level. Very pleasant hiking trails around the falls, very clean comfort station. Very convenient, just off route 17. Only beef is with the online reservation system that charges $10 for the privilege of booking online. We camped at Chutes Provincial Park in a Travel Trailer.

Morning Mist Resort, Stonecliffe, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

The camp operators have done an outstanding job with this campground. one of them met us at the gate and immediately got us settled into our campground with excellent back-in instructions. The sites are level and spacious. There are trees and shrubs between sites for privacy. The comfort station has individual bathrooms, each with its own shower. Laundry facilities are in the same building. We loved the layout of the campground with a very large common area that leads down to and includes the beach on the Ottawa River. Other operators would have packed in as many campsites as possible close to the water, but the camp operators chose to keep it more park-like and maximized the common area. The end result is a lovely resort. We thought that if we ever become seasonal rentals, this place would top the list. There are motor boats available to rent, and were allowed to use the canoes and kayaks for no charge. We had planned to stay just one night, but extended our stay because we found it so lovely here and hope to return. We camped at Morning Mist Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Maple Grove Campground, Fairfax, Vermont

Overall Rating:

This place is spic and span. Very well maintained. Lots of seasonals, very quiet. It's a small, cozy campground. Not a lot of amenities but what is here is clean, well maintained and lovely. Some of the sites are on a hill, though the sites themselves are level. We camped at Maple Grove Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Powhatan Recreation Area, Asheville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Level roads and large, level campsites. Easy to get in. Plenty of water spigots to fill your holding tanks (we camped at a site with no hookups). The campground is very well maintained. Staff was out cleaning up almost immediately after campers left, including raking the gravel. Lots to do within the park, and it's close to Asheville as well. Lots of mountain bikers and nearby trailheads. We stayed for 3 nights and will definitely be back. We camped at Lake Powhatan Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Delaware Seashore State Park, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

There are two sections to this park, pull-through and back-in. We swung by the pull-through section first, and found it quite bleak, just one big parking lot made into a grid with small pull-thru sites. Looked more like a drive-in movie. We moved on to the back-in section and found that marginally more campground-like. Access was easy, roads and sites are level. The place was very clean. If you're a beach lover, this puts you right there. We found it too open for our tastes. There was no one to check us in, and the self-registration process required cash - they don't take checks or credit cards. We scraped together all our cash including spare change and fortunately had just enough. We camped at Delaware Seashore State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Bulltown Camp COE, Burnsville, West Virginia

Overall Rating:

We have stayed three times now in this campground for a single night and every time we think we should stay longer. It's incredibly beautiful, well laid out with level roads and sites, and well-maintained. Sites are easy to get into. We love the COE campgrounds in general and this is one of the better ones. Camp Taylor Campground, Columbia, New Jersey

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful setting, large level sites that were easy to get into with our 25' trailer. We had site 53 which backed up to a lovely brook. We visited the wolf preserve in the morning, which turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Staff was friendly and gave us several options for a site, as we arrived without a reservation. Be sure to follow their directions to avoid the crazy steep hill on the way in. There is a nice winery just down the road. We will definitely be back. Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area, Ellicott City, Maryland

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Good for what it was - a reasonable state park very close to Baltimore. We stayed here while visiting my daughter who lives in the city. Easy access into Baltimore. Most sites are spacious and look easy to get into. Rest rooms were dirty and didn't appear to be cleaned during our stay. Our site was very difficult to get into, though the campground hosts were familiar with it and spent a half hour with us helping us jockey our rig back and forth to get in. We made a list of sites we will use next time, which does NOT include 427 - avoid that site if you have anything other than a small trailer or class B camper. My Old Kentucky Home State Park, Bardstown, Kentucky

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We lucked into a level site (2) and didn't have to unhook. We were staying here just for the night. We enjoyed a walk at dusk along the golf cart paths. This park was conveniently located for us and just off the interstate. Sites were close together. This is an older campground, designed more for tenting and popups. Many of the sites would have been tricky to get into, though we happened to luck out with our site. Lots of interesting things to see nearby. Daniel Boone National Forest (Twin Knobs Recreation Area), Morehead, Kentucky

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

This campsite is incredible - the very best of our recent 5-week trip. Lots of staff and volunteers keep the place clean and well-maintained. The sites are large, level and easily accessible. We stayed in an electric site, but would be happy in some of the sites with no hookups. The area is incredibly beautiful, and there is lots to do within the National Forest. We decided to spring for a double site, which meant we also didn't get the normal senior discount. We plan to come back!
