Milton Heights Campground, Milton, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has more acreage with more tents and campers than I have seen, so far, in my travels. There are a lot of tent sites, a lot! I walked around and saw the seasonal area which was more homey and shady and removed from the rest of the grounds, as it should be. The rest of us were lined up like we were in a parking lot with many rows, although we parked on grass instead of asphalt. It felt impersonal and certainly didn't lend itself to getting to know the neighbors. Everything was satisfactory, but I'm not sure I would return here again. We camped at Milton Heights Campground in a Motorhome.

Willow Lake Campground and RV Park, Woodstock, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

The owners live on the grounds and they are very attentive to campers. Very friendly, too. Most of the sites are seasonal. There's a small area of pull thru sites with some shade. It is a very small campground and looked well kept everywhere. This was my second stay here and I would definitely return when I'm in the area. We camped at Willow Lake Campground and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Port Huron Township RV Park, Port Huron, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

It's a nice park and seems to be managed well. The sites are close to each other, though. It is located right beside the interstate so the road noise is there all the time. It's also right behind a Cracker Barrel. There wasn't much shade in the area where my site was located. If you can, get a site real close to the washrooms and office and you'll have excellent wifi. The check in was friendly and easy. We camped at Port Huron Township RV Park in a Motorhome.

Krystal Lake Campground, Vassar, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

My first sight in this campground was overflowing dumpsters at the entrance. I found out later they had had a music fest that ended two days previously, so that accounts for all the trash, I guess.) Krystal Lake CG has more potholes than I've seen at any campground. Unfortunately, it rained on the day I arrived so the potholes were all mud holes. It was impossible to drive or walk anywhere without getting muddy. I was told to enter the site from the wrong direction and didn't realize it until I tried to hook up. I then had to pack everything back in and drive around to get into the site correctly. If you want 50 amp, you can't have sewer. As I walked around with my dog, I noticed many cigarette butts on the ground. I really thought about just driving on to my next stop a day early, but I am glad I didn't. The next morning I walked the entire campground (still avoiding mud holes) and saw the three beautiful lakes and some of the grounds where campers looked better and things were neater. I can see why some people would like to stay here for the season in these areas. It's an average place for an overnight stop. A few tons of gravel would really improve the campground's roads and sites. Bring boots in case it rains. We camped at Krystal Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Penn Lake Park Campground, Marathon, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

You make your reservations with the city and get to the park and just find your site and hook-up. I wasn't aware of that, so I was perplexed when the only office I found was a small room between the bathrooms. The guy there wasn't a host and therefore was short on info. He just told me the procedure and went to my site. The site was a pull thru with lots and lots of space. The park is tiny, so it may be difficult to get a site. There is a nice lake and huge playground there, as well as the usual washrooms. I would stay there again. We camped at Penn Lake Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Wawa RV Resort and Campground, Wawa, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is on the edge of a river and has lots of trees for shade. Check-in was easy and friendly. The sites are close, but not too close. There was plenty of space for the slide outs and awnings. I would definitely go back to this campground. Not too big or modern. We camped at Wawa RV Resort and Campground in a Motorhome.

Glenview Cottages & Campground, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

It's a bit of a challenge for a long motorhome to pull into the driveway of the campground, but the rest of the roads were fine. The check-in was nice. You drive past all their cottages and then come into the camper area that has a couple of cabins, too. Lots of shade and enough space between sites. The sites are really short so they have to give most campers two lots for the price of one. As with most RV parks, road noise is very prominent when you are outside. I would camp here again. We camped at Glenview Cottages & Campground in a Motorhome.

Magnus Park, Petoskey, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

You get what you pay for at Magnus Park. The other RV parks in Petoskey and the area are very expensive with some that are three times the nightly rate at Magnus. The campground is at the dead end of a street that passes by million dollar houses on the shores of Lake Michigan. From the nice street, you hit a dirt, sand and gravel road that is the entrance to the park. There is very little green grass; it's brown. The sites are mostly sand and dirt, but there are traces that gravel once was there. At the end of the park is entrance to a very large wastewater plant. I only noticed an odor when I walked beside it on the bike and hiking trail. If you get a site in the front half of the park, you will hear the constant roar of the air conditioning unit for the hospital at the top of the hill that overlooks the park. No exaggeration: it is a roar. It's no worse than road noise at most rv parks, though. The person in the office was the most indifferent person I have come across in four months of camping in dozens of parks. I'm guessing she is the Sunday staff person and not the full timer. If she is a full time employee, then she needs some training in hospitality and how to inform a guest about the camp. I got no info about wifi, TV, codes for locked doors, etc. To top that off, she told me my site number, pointed to it on the map, and never told me how to approach it and how to exit it. She wasn't rude in the least, just indifferent to the job. I doubt I will go back to Magnus Park. I won't pay the high prices of the other RV parks, either, so I guess this was my one visit to Petoskey. We camped at Magnus Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you want to stay in Petoskey and not pay at least $100 a night, then this is the park for you. Petoskey is a trendy town with lots of shops and eateries and very expensive homes. The lakeshore is beautiful and there is a great hiking/biking path all along it. Just note: the campground is on a dusty dead end with a large waste treatment plant at the end and a huge air conditioning unit at the edge of the hill behind it.

Stillwater Tent and Trailer Park, Nipigon, Ontario

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Don't let the entrance to the park fool you. It's also a rental center for U-haul. All you see when you get to the park is gravel and an office and the U-haul trailers. I wanted a 50 amp pull-thru so that limited my selection to a gravel area with no trees and nothing special. If you want a 30 or lower amp site, you will probably be back in the woods down one of the quaint gravel roads. It really looks like you're just in the woods with a picnic table here and there. The hook-ups aren't noticeable at all, so the sites are very natural-looking. There is a creek running along the campground. I would stay here again. OH, the guy who lives on the campground and works in the office is super friendly and helpful. He answered my calls and made changes for me without any problem. He's one of the best I have met thus far on my trip. Internet worked really well. That's been rare in the RV parks where I have stayed over the last 4+ months. This campground is nothing special, but if you want to feel like you are out in the words where the sites are grass and everything is left natural, then you will like it here. We camped at Stillwater Tent and Trailer Park in a Motorhome.

Happy Land Campground, Kakabeka Falls, Ontario

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Happy Land was an amusement park in the 60's, thus the name of the campground. Most of the signs throughout the park look like they might be from the 60's, too. It's not a modern campground at all, but the sites are kept up well and the owners are very helpful and friendly. This is the first park I've been to that has a full-time residential section and there are "do not enter" signs at the end of the roads in that section. The RV park is shady in spots, and a few spots are completely in the shade (back-in), there's enough space between sites, and the campground has a pool, playground, restrooms and showers, a laundromat, and a gift shop. I would stay here again. We camped at Happy Land Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to go see the Kakabeka Falls a mile down the road. The village of Kakabeka Falls has a grocery store, 2-3 restaurants (I was told the restaurant at the hotel is very good) and 2 drive-up old-style burger and shake places. It's about 25 km into Thunder Bay, so bring what you need to the campground.

Grand Portage Lodge and Casino, Grand Portage, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

You are parking on a hillside (though all sites are level) in a field. There are no shade trees. The view is Lake Superior. I didn't visit the shop or the casino, but they are just a few steps away. There is no playground or place to swim at the park, but you are allowed to use the pool, etc. next door at the lodge/casino. It's basically a place to park your RV, see the lake, and have full hook-ups...oh, and visit the casino if you enjoy that. We camped at Grand Portage Lodge and Casino in a Motorhome.

Lakehead Boat Basin, Duluth, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This "park" is a parking lot complete with asphalt and white lines separating the sites. No trees, no greenery, no playground, and a small trailer that has restrooms and showers. The parking lot is used in the winter as storage for boats. The plus side is you are right on the water and within three blocks there is a very trendy area with lots to do. If you think of it as a parking space for your camper where you will have great scenery (once you walk away from your parking spot) and access to lots of places to go, then you will like it here. It's right in the middle of everything and yet is isolated out on a little peninsula. The lift bridge is fascinating to watch. I would stay here again, but hopefully at a cooler time when shade isn't needed. We camped at Lakehead Boat Basin in a Motorhome.

Top O' The Morn Resort & Campground, Iron River, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is set in the trees along the banks of Iron Lake. It feels like you are in a state park. Very natural and shady. The roads and sites are gravel and when it is dry it is dusty. It looked like all the overnighter sites where right there in front of the office. The seasonal sites were all along the hillside and down in the woods and along the lake. Very nice. I would have liked one of those sites and avoid the dust from the road, but I was only there for one night. Office was helpful and friendly. I would stay here again. Eddy Park & Campground, Wakefield, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a basic RV camp. Full hook-ups are nice. You park on the grass. There's a variety of campers and some are kept up better than others. There are more large pick-up trucks here than at most car lots, I think. When they start up, you can hear them really well. The park is located on a beautiful lake with a swimming area and playground. Nothing special, but I would stay here again as I pass through the area. Klint Safford Memorial RV Park (The Iron River RV Park), Iron River, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

What a great setting for an RV Park. It is located behind the Chamber of Commerce and that's where you check in. So, in addition to getting the park info on check in, you get great info and advise about seeing the area and where to go for the things you might need. When the Chamber office is closed, a park host is right there at the entrance to help you. In addition, it is a very small park and feels cozy. There is a nature trail on one side of the park and a snowmobile road on the other side. The nature trail is a part of the area's history and it runs beside the Iron River. Add to all of this that you are just a few steps from the little downtown of Iron River. This is a great place and I would definitely stay here again.
