Cape Henlopen State Park, Lewes, Delaware

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Wow, this is an awesome State Park and campground! We can't wait to come back and stay longer! The sites are pretty close to each other but we did not mind because everything else makes up for it. Miles of biking trails! You can even ride all the way to nearby Lewes or Bethany Beach from the campground. There is beach access within the Park with bathrooms and concession stand. We rode our bikes to the beach! There is a WWII camp in the park as well and we enjoyed climbing the look out tower. Roads are paved in the campground and the sites are mostly sand. Sites shaded. Very nice laundry facilities. Clean, newer bathrooms that are all individual units with a sink, toilet, and shower. Camp store that sells firewood. There is a nice nature center with a touch tank. Many trails to hike. Nice playgrounds throughout the park. No sewer at the sites but they all have electric and water. We camped at Cape Henlopen State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Branches of Niagara Campground and Resort, Grand Island, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $100.00
Overall Rating:

Really nice newer campground! This is a private campground, but there are no seasonals here! A ton of organized activities for the kids. Beautiful pool! Nice camp store! Sites all appeared level. This is a newer campground without a lot of trees or shade. Great place to stay to visit Niagra Falls! We would stay here again! We camped at Branches of Niagara Campground and Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Shenandoah River State Park, Bentonville, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Really nice campground close to Shenandoah National Park! There are a lot of hiking trails here! Make sure to check for ticks though because we found a lot on our dog! The campground is right on the river which was a lot of fun! The water was very warm in July. There is a tubing company in the park that we rented tubes from to float down the river! Bring your own tubes and save some $! Nice nature center in the park. No sewer hook ups but the bathrooms were very clean and newer. We can't wait to come back again! We camped at Shenandoah River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Smuggler's Den Campground, Southwest Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

This was a nice campground to stay at while visiting Acadia National Park. It's on the quiet side of the island with less traffic and people but still convenient to the park. We had a back in site with a concrete pad that was easy to back into. The office/check in is in the middle of the park and the roads are very tight. I would call before arrival and see if you can go to your site first and then check in. A motorhome with toad would have a hard time driving to the office first. We used the pool a lot since it was very hot while we were there. The campground has a trail that leads to the popular Echo Lake. This is nice because the parking at the lake was always full. The Island Explorer bus stops at the campground very frequently. The town of Southwest harbor is very charming with some good restaurants. The camp store sells live lobsters and even has large pots you can borrow to cook them in. Large playground was nice. Laundry facilities were nice to have! We camped at Smuggler's Den Campground in a Travel Trailer.

If you visit Acadia on a Weekend, you may want to use the shuttle as parking was very hard to find. We had no trouble with parking during the week though. We loved the Jordan Pond Trail! Very beautiful area.

Sandy Pines Campground (formerly Salty Pines Campground), Kennebunkport, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $88.00
Overall Rating:

This is an awesome campground!! Everything is brand new and super clean! The bathrooms were near our site and you saw them being cleaned multiple times a day. There is a really nice pool which was always crowded. The kids' playground was really cute with an activity tent. Multiple lawn games were outside to use. This campground has glamping tents and cottages that looked amazing! We stayed 3 nights on our way to Acadia and I would stay here for a whole week! The beach is about a mile away and was really nice. The sites are pretty close but the campground made up for it. Many activities for the kids to do. I highly recommend this place! We camped at Sandy Pines Campground (formerly Salty Pines Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Deerpark / New York City NW KOA, Godeffroy, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $84.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at this campground one night on our way home from Maine. It was a pretty far drive off the highway. Very sharp switchback roads to get there from I-84. This could be a very nice campground, however it was the worst we have stayed at. It is right along a river and some sites have direct access. We only encountered teenagers running the place. Never saw an adult there. They do not enforce quiet hours at all! There were people partying and driving in golf carts until 4am! The hook ups are very awkward. The electric box is in the back, the water was way past the front of the tow vehicle, and the sewer was near the front of our trailer. We had to move our trailer to dump in the morning because our hose wouldn't reach. At least we had a long enough water hose to reach! This place did not have the amenities to charge the $84 a night. The worst KOA experience ever! We camped at Deerpark / New York City NW KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Do not take the exit off I-84 in New York to get here. Very steep switchback roads. The directions on the website are wrong. There are signs to guide you though. GPS led us to the wrong place. A motorhome with a tow vehicle would never be able to drive this road.

Shore Hills Campground and RV Park, Boothbay, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

This is a surprisingly nice campground. The campground is older but the owners keep it spotless! My kids enjoyed playing on the small older playground. We had a pull through, full hookup site which was out in the open and the sites were very close to the next. It was all large motor homes in these sites except for us! There are much nicer, shaded sites under trees but they are only water and electric. I used the laundry room here and it was very clean. No change machine, so you will have to get quarters from the camp store. They offer good Sam and AAA discount. Only a handful of seasonal sand they were removed from the rest of the campground. We camped at Shore Hills Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very close to Boothbay Harbor and many other things to do in the area. The best restaurant on our 12 days in Maine was Robinson's Wharf in nearby Southport! You can watch the lobster men haul their catch right to the restaurant! The fried haddock sandwich was the best fish sandwich I ever had!

Schodack Island State Park, Schodack Landing, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This was a very nice state park campground next to the Hudson River. The sites are mostly all shaded under trees. We had a pull-through site which was huge! Paved roads were great to ride bikes on. If you have a boat, the boat ramp looked really nice for getting in and out of the river. There is a really nice playground that my kids enjoyed. The bathrooms appeared to be fairly new and were spotless! There is creek access from the campground for kayaking as well. We would stay here again! We camped at Schodack Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Williamsport South / Nittany Mtn. KOA, New Columbia, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

We only stayed here one night while traveling through the area, but we wished that we could have stayed longer. The campground was very clean and well maintained. There was a really awesome new playground that the kids loved. There were seasonal campers but they all had newer and well maintained trailers. There is a petting zoo with goats that was really cute. One of the nicest camp stores. We will stay here again! We camped at Williamsport South / Nittany Mtn. KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Cook Forest State Park, Cooksburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is in a beautiful forest with a ton of hiking! The campground is large but only offers a small amount of pet friendly sites. The bathrooms were clean but really need to be updated. We were able to reserve a full hook up site which was nice for a state park! Most of the sites are shaded in the forest. Roads easy to navigate. Very close to the Clarion River which is fun to canoe in! Stop by the Pale Whale to rent your canoes and enjoy ice cream at their stand! We camped at Cook Forest State Park in a Travel Trailer.

One of our favorite Pennsylvania State Parks! Very clean with updated bathrooms. Some full hook up sites. Rangers have activities on the weekends.
