Valley RV Park, Buena Vista, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

There is always one person who cannot be pleased. It is not a "fancy" RV park just absolutely wonderful owners who have owned it for decades. If fancy lawns, etc, are more important to you than the owners and the people who have come here for 12, 16 or more years. This was our third year and, God willing, will be back next year again for a month or two. And look around at all the neat "stuff" that has been collected and around the Park. And the Clubhouse is like a small museum. Valley has the focus on people / customers more than anything. And that is most important to us. We love the Park and we love the owners. And we are not alone in that feeling. We camped at Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Grape Creek RV Park Campground and Cabins, Westcliffe, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

We truly love this park. The new owners are great. I would agree they have a lot to learn; but did not we all in many aspects of our lives. They will learn that upkeep is one of the most important things....I did not think it was that bad but could use some attention. Not so sure why our rate was so high compared to others - we made reservations with previous owner. Many, if not all, of the horses are rescue. We were in the second row on the end closest to them and never had an odor issue. They will have to keep in mind that the people coming there pay the bills for them and keep that under control. We camped at Grape Creek RV Park Campground and Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.

Raton KOA, Raton, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We have been here quite a few times over the years. Not fancy but good. Certainly would come back again. The owner is a great guy but he's getting ripped by Tengointernet so the internet is not real good. I also talked to Tengo and they were indifferent to me - leading me thru all kinds of stuff and wound up where we started. Went to my Verizon hotspot. We camped at Raton KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

81 Palms Senior RV Resort (55+ Park), Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older park and wide open hard sand / gravel spaces. Kinda kooky neat things around outside the office. They, I think, take our record for load train noise - all night long the whistles and rumbling going. I would overnight again but that is about it. We camped at 81 Palms Senior RV Resort (55+ Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Picacho Peak RV Resort (55+ park), Picacho, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very beautiful, well kept up park. Staff was ok. Two major complaints though. On many of their sites - by their own admission - the gravel pad is low compared to the sides and the the sewer pipe sticks an additional 10 inches or so up from that. Guess what? Tanks don't dump and they have no dump station. Secondly, they have the worst wifi that we have seen in many, many years. They admit it is bad. I am using Verizon hot spot now as it is the only way I can get online. We will not come back. We camped at Picacho Peak RV Resort (55+ park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Leaf Verde RV Resort, Buckeye, Arizona

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We were in for an overnight; have done it here many times. New owners (I think) and new staff that I was in contact with. The guy that took us to our site was not new and is a great guy. Could not get a WiFi connection - so site shown. Called office - do not have wifi for overnight. Then I recall they always gave us wifi info when we checked in. That is a new one for me. Next morning we have no water. Call office - it is going to be shut down 8-noon; there was a sign on the front door. Maybe you could have told me! Will be looking for another place to overnight in that area. We camped at Leaf Verde RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Ruins Road RV Park & Campground, Aztec, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

It is a basic park - but that is fine for us. We came to Aztec to see the Ruins and it is 3 blocks walk from the park. She gave us a nice site with big tree for shade. It was a long pull thru and level. And we had to change dates we were coming and all. Very nice people. We camped at Ruins Road RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Ouray KOA, Ouray, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This was our third time here and we hope to be back next year in the Fall for the breathtaking beauty of this area. This is a very large RV park and takes a huge amount of work to keep up; but I think they do a good job. It is dusty from the gravel. WiFi was slow to the point there were a couple of times I went and used my personal hotspot (as a pro photographer there are quite a few images sent out!). Staff varies but I always am more forgiving than most - particularly this late in the season! We camped at Ouray KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive Red Mountain Pass in the early morning and later in afternoon for the good lighting on the beauty of this one of the most beautiful drives in America. But be darn careful as there are places of 10-12" shoulder, no guard rail and straight down several hundred feet - curvy as well. I DO NOT recommend driving it with an RV.

James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park / Island Acres Section, Palisade, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

When we arrived there was no one in the booth. Good thing I had printed up our info so we knew where to park. We were never contacted and Rangers drove past. There is NO shade for the very most part. It was so hot we left a day early. The price show reflects the Park fee (we have an annual so it was not an issue from that standpoint). We would not stay there again. We camped at James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park / Island Acres Section in a Fifth Wheel.

Rifle Falls is one of the most picturesque falls you will ever see. I am a photographer and I took LOTS of pictures. There is a short trail (1 1/2 miles I think) up and around the top of the falls - don't miss it if you can.

Carbondale / Crystal River KOA, Carbondale, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

As people know, I do not give 10 ratings as nothing is perfect. But give them a 9.9! We have been to nearly 200 different rv parks in our 19 years part time RVing and this is one of the prettiest, cleanest and well kept up of any we have seen....right up there in the top 3 - 5. And owner and staff was super as well. We look forward to getting back there next year. We camped at Carbondale / Crystal River KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Ami's Acres Campground, Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a park we will probably not return to. This was the 187th rv park we have been to and only about the third that we have said this. It is unkempt and messy. Noise from the interstate is not too bad but it is there. Sites are dusty and narrow. We don't need luxury by any means but like clean and attended to. Much of this park, however, I think is permanent or long term residents -- lots of them. And obviously no rules as to upkeep. We camped at Ami's Acres Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Valley RV Park, Buena Vista, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Those of you who know me know I only give a 10 in maybe 1 in 100 places. In fact, I really don't know if I ever have in my about 160 postings. We just love this park - so quiet, lots of room, friendly. Owners are just great. Yes, it can be dusty, but not so if people obeyed the speed limit in there - which most do. Very spacious sites. Love all the little things around there for decorations, etc. If you are looking for a pool, pickleball and lots of wild parties you might look elsewhere. If you are looking for quiet, serene and lots of great people - starting with the owners - then I very highly recommend Valley. This was our second time here and making plans to return for a much longer stay (one month) next year. We camped at Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Buena Vista is quite an interesting town with so many things. We love Brown Dog for coffee / pasty - their almond twist is so superb. But we love the nearness to the mountains - Cottonwood and Independence Passes and the shorter trails along the river in town. Leadville is an easy drive. So much to do or just sit in the peace and quiet.
