Ruins Road RV Park & Campground, Aztec, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

It is a basic park - but that is fine for us. We came to Aztec to see the Ruins and it is 3 blocks walk from the park. She gave us a nice site with big tree for shade. It was a long pull thru and level. And we had to change dates we were coming and all. Very nice people. We camped at Ruins Road RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Ouray KOA, Ouray, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This was our third time here and we hope to be back next year in the Fall for the breathtaking beauty of this area. This is a very large RV park and takes a huge amount of work to keep up; but I think they do a good job. It is dusty from the gravel. WiFi was slow to the point there were a couple of times I went and used my personal hotspot (as a pro photographer there are quite a few images sent out!). Staff varies but I always am more forgiving than most - particularly this late in the season! We camped at Ouray KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Drive Red Mountain Pass in the early morning and later in afternoon for the good lighting on the beauty of this one of the most beautiful drives in America. But be darn careful as there are places of 10-12" shoulder, no guard rail and straight down several hundred feet - curvy as well. I DO NOT recommend driving it with an RV.

James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park / Island Acres Section, Palisade, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

When we arrived there was no one in the booth. Good thing I had printed up our info so we knew where to park. We were never contacted and Rangers drove past. There is NO shade for the very most part. It was so hot we left a day early. The price show reflects the Park fee (we have an annual so it was not an issue from that standpoint). We would not stay there again. We camped at James M. Robb - Colorado River State Park / Island Acres Section in a Fifth Wheel.

Rifle Falls is one of the most picturesque falls you will ever see. I am a photographer and I took LOTS of pictures. There is a short trail (1 1/2 miles I think) up and around the top of the falls - don't miss it if you can.

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

As people know, I do not give 10 ratings as nothing is perfect. But give them a 9.9! We have been to nearly 200 different rv parks in our 19 years part time RVing and this is one of the prettiest, cleanest and well kept up of any we have seen....right up there in the top 3 - 5. And owner and staff was super as well. We look forward to getting back there next year. We camped at Carbondale/Crystal River KOA (formerly Crystal River Resort Cabins an in a Fifth Wheel.

Ami's Acres Campground, Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a park we will probably not return to. This was the 187th rv park we have been to and only about the third that we have said this. It is unkempt and messy. Noise from the interstate is not too bad but it is there. Sites are dusty and narrow. We don't need luxury by any means but like clean and attended to. Much of this park, however, I think is permanent or long term residents -- lots of them. And obviously no rules as to upkeep. We camped at Ami's Acres Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Valley RV Park, Buena Vista, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Those of you who know me know I only give a 10 in maybe 1 in 100 places. In fact, I really don't know if I ever have in my about 160 postings. We just love this park - so quiet, lots of room, friendly. Owners are just great. Yes, it can be dusty, but not so if people obeyed the speed limit in there - which most do. Very spacious sites. Love all the little things around there for decorations, etc. If you are looking for a pool, pickleball and lots of wild parties you might look elsewhere. If you are looking for quiet, serene and lots of great people - starting with the owners - then I very highly recommend Valley. This was our second time here and making plans to return for a much longer stay (one month) next year. We camped at Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Buena Vista is quite an interesting town with so many things. We love Brown Dog for coffee / pasty - their almond twist is so superb. But we love the nearness to the mountains - Cottonwood and Independence Passes and the shorter trails along the river in town. Leadville is an easy drive. So much to do or just sit in the peace and quiet.

Mountaindale Cabins & RV Resort, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

The real downside to this has not to do with the facilities - beautiful park - but the fact that it is far from the most desirable places to see in the area. The Manager is excellent and nearly all the staff are great and friendly as well. Unlike most of the parks we have been to they do not sell propane. Not so much a big deal except the closest place to get it is about 20 miles away. If you are on a site near Barrett Road you will have truck noise of quarry trucks going back and forth - but rv parks tend to have road noise, railroad noise, airport noise, etc. They have a waffle day and probably the best waffle and trimmings I have seen ANYPLACE. Wildlife - not human - is both good and bad. I think most people here are long term. Everyone very nice. Once settled in we saw that our site was the one that was on the cover of their brochure! We camped at Mountaindale Cabins & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Grape Creek RV Park Campground and Cabins, Westcliffe, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This is our 183rd RV park we have stayed at in our 19 years part time RVing and this is the first 10 I have given. Always said nothing is perfect but this is as close as you can come. Owners are such outstanding people, the place is spotless and kept up beautifully. The views are breathtaking - and I am a semi-professional photographer in my retirement. And the only RV park I have ever seen with a piano in the laundry room (honest!). We camped at Grape Creek RV Park Campground and Cabins in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed three nights to do some local hiking / visiting historic natural sites, etc. Small? 49 well spaced sites. Older yes. But kept up so well and so clean. Free breakfast was fine - basic, yes, but fine - - with clean table(s) area. Owners were wonderful and went more than the extra mile for us with some 5th wheel issues and other things. We were here for El Morro and hiked the beautiful loop once again. El Morro is so special............the hike along the top fabulous and the views outstanding. We also went to the Ice Cave and Volcano. The ice cave is a once in a lifetime thing to see. And the shop and people there were fantastic.

Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated), Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Trailer Village has improved immensely since the first time we were there some years back - we have been there 7 or 8 times ---- we LOVE the Grand Canyon (and I have sold a lot of pictures of images I have shot there!) It is NOT a campground - they tell you it is an RV Park. All sites now are asphalt pull thrus. However, you would have though someone could have made sure on the side to side level; not good sometimes. But with all the high traffic there they do a great job. It is clean and staff are great. They take reservations 13 months in advance and you best have a reservation or the chances are next to nil that you will get in. And no place else to go as Mather will be booked solid as well. We have reservations for 6 nights next September. We camped at Trailer Village (Concessionnaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

To tell people you have SEEN the Grand Canyon and not just BEEN to the Grand Canyon you have to see it at sunrise and sunset with the shadows and color. I am fortunate to have gotten many shots that are purchased on paper and canvas.
