Glory Hole Rec Area / Big Oak Campground, Angels Camp, California

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful and peaceful campground right on the lake. We dry camped here. It is nice if you're self contained. The bathrooms were not available and they had port-a-potties by the restrooms. The water is great for swimming, fishing and boating, although they did have a problem with leaches when we were there, so just something to be aware of. The rangers and camp host are really nice and helpful. Lots of wildlife and beautiful area in California with a convenient store/ gas station at main road and grocery store in Angels Camp couple miles down the road with Redbox rentals and other goodies. We camped at Glory Hole Rec Area / Big Oak Campground in a Motorhome.

Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA, Watsonville, California

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $144.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very expensive KOA but it has a lot going for it. They have very friendly staff, activity sheet and lots of stuff for the kids. Heated swimming pool and hot tub, 2 dog parks, and convenient store/ souvenir shop. My boys (13,16.) loved the jumping pillow and activities like mini golf and tie dye workshop. They rented banana bikes and went swimming. We walked to the beach on the old railroad tracks (about a mile away). Since we were traveling in our 35' RV there isn't any parking for large vehicles. It was a really nice weekend before school. Even though it's expensive we'll be back. The showers/ restrooms were very clean and nice as well. Loved this place. We camped at Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you have a smaller RV (31' or smaller), I believe there is camping available at a state beach within a couple miles if you're looking for something quieter.

Yosemite Lakes RV Resort - Thousand Trails, Groveland, California

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Love this TT. The location is great. Can't beat having the river run through the property! Easy enough to back in our 35' motorhome. Has sewer and 30 or 50 amp hook ups. No cell reception but lots to do. They had a live band on Saturday night with complimentary smores by the campfire. Beautiful new outside patio area right outside the rec room with WIFI at rec room. Mini golf, basketball, badmitten, and all kinds of other games offered in rec room. They had an activity sheet with planned activities during the week. Only 5 miles to Yosemite. Very friendly and informative staff. The designated members only area was appreciated. We camped at Yosemite Lakes RV Resort - Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

Ponderosa RV Resort, Lotus, California

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $5.00
Overall Rating:

We visited as TT members and were scheduled for 2 nights but left the same day we arrived. The only thing we were told when we checked in 5 times was if we chose a 50 amp site there is a $5 a night fee. Nothing else. There are no activities. No AT&T reception. No one under 18 allowed in the rec room (my son is 16 and was locked out because I wasn't with him). No wifi, except within 8-10 feet of rec room. This is NOT a resort. We chose the 50 amp "river view" but the only view was of other RV's. You have to walk to the river from these spots. Almost all river front spots have full timers in them. It's a half mile uphill to the dog park and pool. Everything is run down and falling apart. Our picnic table had bolts gone holding down the benches and was unusable. It felt so much like a low income trailer park that we left after the first day. They should check into getting activities planned, repairing the roads and falling apart Gazebo, offering better WIFI, and maybe cable and informing guests of whatever it is that makes this a resort because I left wondering this question. We camped at Ponderosa RV Resort in a Motorhome.
