Fort De Soto Campground, Tierra Verde, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

There are 3 loops. 1 for tents and small pop ups. 1 for some waterfront with any type of rig or tent. And 1 for any type of rig that allows for pets. We stayed on the pet loop. Some of the sites were wide and some were very tight. There are a couple of nice waterfront in the pet loop. We were in site 96 with a 27' TT. It was tight getting in around the low hanging limbs. Sandy/gravel surface, had to use leveling blocks. Once in the site it was adequate. We were right on top of our neighbors. Some foliage in between, but no privacy. Be aware no fire rings. You can bring your own ring or the camp store will rent a ring for $3 per night. It is just a large wash tub. Shower house was clean with HOT water. The shower house on our loop was laid out a little different than some of the others. We had 3 showers with a "staging" area before getting under the shower head so there was a bench to keep things dry. The shower house is open between the walls and ceiling so there are bugs and no AC or heat. Lots of really nice bike trails. You can bike to the fort area very easily. Once there the trails continue throughout the beach and fort area. 2 fishing piers with bait shop and gift shop. Snack bar. Camping receipt allows free entry into park. There were Kayak rentals, $23 for 1 hour for a single, which I thought was a little steep. But the area was beautiful to kayak. Unfortunately the wind caused the rentals to be closed while we were there. There is a gas station close by and Publix about 4 miles or so. Walmart was 8 miles. Lots of shopping and restaurants...but you have to pay a toll to come and go onto the main road. The camp store was well stocked. Staff was friendly. 2 dump stations. From the pet loop you had to exit the campground and come back to main road to get to dump station...not a big deal. According to others the fishing was great right from the waterfront sites and at the bridge by the store. We camped at Fort De Soto Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to save time to walk around the Fort. There is a ferry that will take you over to Egmont Key for shelling and snorkeling. Check the hours before you plan. This time of year it only runs at 11 am...and picks you up at Key and brings you back at 3. It was not running due to windy/high waves.

Easy on and off highway. Friendly staff. Large sites. Some seemed to have to use blocks to get level. Ours was OK. Nice clean bathroom/showers. Laundry. Camp store is well stocked. Eagle's Roost RV Resort, Lake Park, Georgia

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Right off 95. Easy on and off. Friendly staff at check in. Cute craft items for sale in camp office. Nice pool to relax after a day of driving. Bathroom/shower very clean and big. Pull through sites spacious, full hook up. Shady. Level. Great place to stop while travelling. There is a flea market adjacent to property that is a short walk. I was disappointed there wasn't much produce for sale. Roads are dirt so not good to ride a bike but ok for a short stroll. No fires allowed. We camped at Eagle's Roost RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Tobesofkey Arrowhead Campground, Lizella, Georgia

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Friendly staff at check in. Small crowded campground. Not many trees. Sites are unlevel. Some sites are on the water and had nice views. Paved roads nice for bike riding. Bathroom/showers were pretty nasty. Hot and dirty. They kept the doors open so full of bugs and cobwebs. Nice swim beach. Great place to kayak/canoe. Some sites can keep a boat/kayak/canoe at the site. Adequate for a 1 night stay while travelling. No camp store. We camped at Lake Tobesofkey Arrowhead Campground in a Travel Trailer.

McKinney Campground COE, Acworth, Georgia

Overall Rating:

Use Route 75 to exit 278. Large campground. Friendly staff at check in. Shady. Some sites looked a little tricky to get into. Some beautiful waterfront sites. Several pull throughs. Our site was on an incline but long enough we could get level. Our site was a large and shady pull through. Had deer walk through in the morning. Bathroom/shower was a walk up an incline. Paved roads throughout for nice walks. No camp store. We were there over a weekend that was a local school break so it was FULL. It was quiet and private. Dollar General within 5 miles. Fall Creek Falls State Park, Spencer, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Very big campground with LOTS to do. Sites are varied as far as shade and level. We had a pull through in A loop that we could not get into and get level or use slide and awning. They transferred us to another site that was a pull through and was spacious and shady. We had to use blocks to get level and the asphalt pad had a little bit of a drop off. Almost all the rigs were blocked to get level. Looked like D loop had larger sites when we drove through. Friendly staff. Bathroom/shower clean with hot water. Lots of tent campers when we were there and the kids were having a blast riding bikes and playing in a large grassy area where the deer liked to roam in the early am. Nice pool, shopping village, grill/cafe. Come in from hwy 111..NOT hwy 30. We followed the signs and they brought us in through a ridiculous windy narrow road on hwy 30. Lots of hiking available for all levels of expertise. 2 suspension bridges. Beautiful Falls. We camped at Fall Creek Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Waitsboro Campground COE, Somerset, Kentucky

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Very steep incline/decline to enter and exit campground. The roads throughout are ridiculous. Can't get to the dump station due to incline and sharp turn. I had to keep getting out of the truck to decipher where to go since the sites and road were all discombobulated. Can't really walk or ride bikes due to hills. Very small campground. There is a very steep boat ramp right outside entrance. Other than that there really isn't anything to do at this campground. Nice views of the lake. Site was little tricky. Level, gravel, plenty of room. No shade. Bathroom/shower was a hike up a hill. Not too clean. Brown water. Campground host was VERY friendly. Came by several times to see if we needed anything. No store, no wood for sale. There is shopping and restaurants close by. We camped at Waitsboro Campground COE in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Used address on website and ended up on windy roads to the admin office. After we finally arrived at campground on tiny little roads we discovered it is right off a state highway 32. Close to shopping and restaurants. Large campground with lots of things to do. Paved roads to ride bikes. Adequately Clean bathroom/shower. Lots of trees and shade. Our site was easy to back in and had a level asphalt pad. Not many full hook up sites. Campground map is NOT to scale. We camped at East Fork State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Town of Amelia is close by with shopping and restaurants. GPS took us along the Ohio River, from Ohio, dipped into Kentucky and back into Ohio and through windy roads, only to later discover we didn't need to do that. It's right off HWY 32.

Indianapolis KOA, Greenfield, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

Made the reservation 4 months ago. Paperwork they sent said we had a "pad" near the dog park. When we arrived, at 5 pm, I was told all the pad sites were gone and they only had a grass spot on the other side of the pool. We ended up in a muddy, messy unlevel spot below the pool. It was an open area with electric posts scattered with site #s. Staff very snotty and said that's the way it is when people pull in earlier than us we get what's left...even with a reservation. We didn't have a table or a fire ring. No trees. The bathroom/showers were adequate. Pool was fun with a slide and kids area. The pictures on this site do not reflect anything we saw at this campground. The dumpsters were overflowing. Signage is bad. I can't recommend this park. We camped at Indianapolis KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Long Branch State Park, Macon, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful campground. Our site was concrete, level and spacious. Shady with lots of trees. Clean bathroom/shower. Paved roads to ride bikes. We were backed up to nature/open field and watched deer at night and in the mornings. Campground hosts very nice. We only stayed 1 night and didn't use all the facilities/lake etc. Be aware: Come off hwy 36 and use long branch lake rd exit. GPS took us on a dirt road. Some of the sites were water view. Overall Rating:

Don't use address on website for GPS. The actual address is 4338 NW 94th Ave. Ankeny, IA. We ended up on the other side of the resevoir at the admin office using the website address. Park is nice. Sites shady and level. We had a beautiful view of the lake. Bathroom/showers are clean but be aware they are push button and the water only flows about 1 minute per push. But the water was hot. No water hook up at site. Dump station and fresh water fill at entrance. Lots of paved roads to ride bikes. Staff very friendly at check in. We camped at Cherry Glen COE in a Travel Trailer.

Nerstrand Big Woods State Park, Nerstrand, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Come in on HWY 35, otherwise you'll be on a dirt road. Nice park. Friendly Staff. No camp store. Have to buy/use their wood. Heavily wooded sites. Some sites are short and hard to get into. Only saw a few pull throughs. We were in Site 21, very hard to get in. Couldn't put out awning due to trees. Bathroom/showers were VERY nice. Had private shower rooms. The hike to hidden falls is a must. 20 minute drive to Northfield, cute town with shops and restaurants. I'm giving the site an average rating due to difficulty getting in. Once in the site it was large and very private. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MINNESOTA STATE PARK PASS they charge $7 per day for day use on top of the camping fee. This is per car. We camped at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice Hiking. We went for "Defeat of Jesse James Days" in Northfield. Campground was full. Lots of tents/families. Very quiet. Campground host (Harland) was very nice and walked the campground frequently to see if anyone needed anything or to just chat. Would be pretty tough to get anything bigger than 30 ft. through the campground.

There are mostly primitive tent sites. No water and only porta potty bathrooms in the tent sites. There are no indoor showers anywhere on site. There is an outdoor cold shower down by the beach area. There are 2 RV sites with full hook ups. No dump station. The RV sites are large cement, level pads. Partial Shade. Private. Large area to park. Beautiful hiking and bike trails. Kayak/Canoe/Paddle boat rentals. Swim beach. 9 hole golf course. Lots to do on site. Close to Prior Lake, cute little town with a nice farmers market on Sat. am. Easy drive to Minneapolis/St. Paul. Overall Rating:

We were here during a bad storm, so they may have tainted my review. Very small campground. The site they had us in was grass. It was level. Staff were friendly. Seemed liked mostly long termers. We were in a pull through right at the entrance/office. The campground is almost in the middle of a corn field on a small road. The bathroom/showers were clean. The pool looked nice, didn't use it. The store was well stocked. The pictures do not resemble what it looked like while we were there. It was adequate for a 1 night stay while travelling. I.
