Still Meadow RV Park, Mt. Vernon, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Small relatively new park with a lot of long-termers but places for travelers. Spacing was adequate and utilities are good. Our pull-thru site had a concrete pad but not all do. Did not use cable. Wi-fi was terrible. Half the time you can't get logged in, and when you do you are likely to get dumped off. Office is not manned full-time so no real help there. Not much to do in the area other than our geocaching hobby, the reason we stopped here for 3 days. The road in from Hwy 37 is very narrow and a bit rough. We left going the other way to Hwy 115 which was shorter and in better condition. Would use the park again at least for an overnight stop as it is reasonably close to the interstate. We camped at Still Meadow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Not much shopping nearby although Mt. Vernon does have a Brookshires grocery. Walmarts are 15-20 miles E or W.

Wagon Master RV Park, Sanger, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Mixed feelings about this park. Pros: Sites are well laid out and, especially in the back area, almost spacious. Pretty quiet even though there are many long tremors, some even with kids. Alpaca viewing is interesting but watch out for the "guard dogs"...they really are. Roads are good and well maintained but of a coarse gravel mix which is uncomfortable to walk on and could raise dust, but everybody does drive very slowly to keep dust down. Utilities are generally good although our water connection at second site was below ground and awkward. Owner and workers were very nice and helpful Cons: Very high occupancy rate. We wanted to stay for a week and had to move to a temporarily vacated long-term site (very nice) to make the full week. Wi-fi is Very poor. Erratic connections and drop-offs, difficulty logging in (every time you put a device to sleep or disconnect) and speed seems variable. Free, but marginally usable at times. We camped at Wagon Master RV Park in a Motorhome.

Roadrunner RV Park, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Earlier reviews pretty well cover this park. We had a pull-thru with full hookups + wi-fi + cable (excellent cable with HD channels + analog channels). Utilities were ideally placed for our rig. No shade and several days of strong OK winds. We stayed a week to pursue a hobby and visit the local sights. Close to I-35 so there is some road noise but not inside our unit. We camped at Roadrunner RV Park in a Motorhome.

Red Rock Canyon State Park, Hinton, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Won't duplicate earlier comments. Nice park. Very quiet while we were there but there are many drive-thrus. The road in and out is a challenge but doable even with our 40' motorhome. Just be sure to use a lead car to be sure you have use of the whole road. We stayed in the California loop with water and 30-amp electric. Tried using one of the full holy-up 50-amp sites in another loop but there was no power at any of the sites. Seldom anyone in the entrance office but rangers do patrol pretty regularly. We camped at Red Rock Canyon State Park in a Motorhome.

Foss State Park, Foss, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the Cottonwood Campground which has full hookups but no lake view. Had the place all to ourselves at this time of the year. An older park but well maintained. Saw deer, squirrels and a porqupine in the campground. Not much else in the area but we are geocachers and there were plenty to keep us busy in the area. We also visited the Rt. 66 Museum in nearby Clinton where you must go for groceries or almost anything else. Lots of bison in the campground around the office area. Nice place overall. We camped at Foss State Park in a Motorhome.

Santa Rosa Lake State Park, Santa Rosa, New Mexico

Stayed here over New Years holiday. Had stayed at the exact same site here almost 20 years ago and enjoyed it just as much this time. Nice view, good facilities. Got very cold but that's January. No sewer. Some sites have water, all have electric. No sewer. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Amarillo RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $2.00
Overall Rating:

Initially planned to stay for one week but extended to two. Nice well kept, quiet campground on the outskirts of Amarillo but convenient to anything you want....shopping, restaurants, local attractions. Campground has all facilities you could want for a short or long term stay. Be sure to make the day trip to Palo Euro Canyon State Park, it is beautiful. Just avoid January...they close half of the park for an annual hunt so you miss a lot of the scenery. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Lazy Longhorn RV Park, Victoria, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park on the quiet side of Victoria. Cheaper than the nearby campground, which did not look as nice. Friendly folks, good utilities, including wi-fi. Park has apparently changed ownership. Some work underway either due to new owners or hurricane that came through this September, but not any kind of a problem to residents.

Site surface is a concrete pad and features a picnic table and patio. We camped at Lazy Longhorn RV Park in a Motorhome.

Braunig Lake RV Resort, Elmendorf, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed on a site across the lake from the office. Unusual layout because only every other site has hookups, so you get essentially a double site. Had a pad and table. Wi-fi OK. Next site over, folks had MANY Christmas blowup displays that ran 24/7. Slightly annoying but not too bad.

Passport America rate was a few dollars cheaper than their weekly rate. We camped at Braunig Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Fort Clark Springs, Brackettville, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

Very unusual parl. Old military fort civilianized. Mix of camping and lots of owner residents outside the campground. Lots of history here. Site and hookups were very adequate but not fancy. Friendly folks. Some meals available on weekends (we ate breakfast on departure day). Membership association but no problem getting a site. We camped at Fort Clark Springs in a Motorhome.

Marathon Motel and RV Park, Marathon, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed just overnight to prepare for entering Big Bend NP. Stayed in the overnight section of the park which is basically a gravel parking lot with full hookups. More that adequate for what we wanted. Gassed up for the 90 mile desert trip into BBNP the next morning at a local station not open but serviceable with a credit card. We camped at Marathon Motel and RV Park in a Motorhome.

Basically a parking lot, but with full HU's in the desert. Pretty tight fo longer RVs but not full while we were there. Used this as a base to tour the NP> Winter is the time to be there. Fairview Riverside State Park, Madisonville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Stay here almost every time we are in the area visiting family and friends. A nice quiet park in a beautiful setting. This time we stayed in the back, "premium", loop. Only drawback is no sewers but for a short stay who needs sewer. Wi-fi was strong (repeater right by our site) but it is pretty restrictive about what you can do. Washer and drier in the bathroom building were FREE, can you believe it? Satellite and phone coverage were good and you can get many off-air TV stations as well as satellite. We camped at Fairview Riverside State Park in a Motorhome.
