We made reservations in April for two nights of camping in July, one on the way to the shore, one on the way back. I received my credit card statement for April and saw that both nights' camping were already charged. I thought, I don't remember them saying they were charging it when I made reservations, but whatever. Then I called in May to cancel, due to a change in my husband's work schedule. I was told that there would be a $10 cancellation fee per night, which was supposedly in a confirmation email that I don't remember getting (the lady on the phone said she had a hard time hearing me...I wonder if she got my email address wrong). I was annoyed with the charges and talked to a manager. She heard me out and wasn't rude, but she basically said I was out of luck. She's got my money already, so there's not much I can do about it! I informed them they'd lost our business for our rescheduled trip, but once again, they didn't seem to care, because they got $20 for nothing. It seems like a lovely campground, which is why we made reservations there in the first place, but just be aware that you'll get charged if you cancel. I understand why campgrounds need cancellation policies, but seriously--like they're not going to re-reserve two Saturday nights in July within the next two months? That's unreasonable. I just hope my experience saves someone else some money, because my $20 is a lost cause!

Evergreen Park

This is a really nice park located in the northern part of Ohio's Amish country. Each site is paved and has a small fence with other landscaping. The indoor pool is our favorite part. It has a retractable roof, which they open when it's sunny and nice, but still allows you to swim and enjoy the great hot tub when it's cold or rainy. There's also a really nice exercise room and game room in the central building. It's located in a very scenic area with great internal roads for walking with strollers or wagons and riding bikes. Lots to keep kids happy, and adults too. It's a little pricey for the area, but you do get a lot for your money. Obviously most people don't have a problem paying that rate for what you get, but for our family it means we can't go as often as we'd like to--that's the only reason it doesn't get a 10 from me.

We lived at this park for the summer of 2007 while our new home was being built. There are lots of seasonal sites--probably 80% of the park. Weekends are usually busy, especially holidays. Summer weekdays are peaceful, though, and temporary campers will have their run of the place. The pool is just okay. It's clean enough, but could use some upkeep. There are lots of activities: bingo, crafts, kids' games and activities, and the ever-popular tiger cage for the kids. The playground is pretty nice. Many of the seasonals have golf carts and cruise around at night. You can bring your own when you come, but double-check in the office, because there are some restrictions. There's not a ton to do in the area, but the helpful staff will direct you to the local attractions that are there. All-in-all not a bad place to spend a few days.

We love this campground, and usually stay here twice a year with our camping club. It's not a spectacular activity-packed campground, but it is a clean, quiet, well-kept home base for exploring Ohio's Amish country. It is centrally located, with very clean restrooms, lovely gardens, and a small swing set and sandbox for children. You'll enjoy hearing the clip-clop of horses pulling buggies in the morning, and purchasing baked goods and baskets most weekend evenings from local Amish people who bring their horse and buggy right into the park. Sites aren't huge, but they're adequate for evening campfires with the free firewood, and we've found most other campers to be friendly and good neighbors. Make use of the map provided at check-in, and drive some of the back roads to see "real" Amish country scenery. You can't beat it for the price--friendly owners, clean facilities, great location. It's one of our favorites.
