Gulf State Park Campground, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2012 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Super nice park that rivals the best anywhere. Lots of bike and hiking trails. Rural setting near the beach. We had a lakeside space and even saw an alligator in the water. Lots of birds to listen to also. This will be our place everytime we return to the area. You get parking at the State Beach areas with your campground permit. You can ride bikes to the beach access point if you want. Lots of room at each site. We camped at Gulf State Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Mardi Gras RV Park & Motel, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: September, 2012 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This park is not in a good area. There is a gate that closes at night and we felt reasonably safe in the park. The parking lot of the on site convenience store is full of 'Ladies of the evening' up to mid morning. There is nothing to do in the park itself but I guess that's not what you go to New Orleans for. Rate was for a monthly rate while we were in the area working. It is close to the Interstate for access. Depending on traffic the French Quarter is 15 minutes away. Construction on the nearby drawbridge makes access tricky depending on the direction you come in from. The manager of the park knows nothing about the RV lifestyle. I was dumping the holding tank before we left and he said 'So that's how you dump the tanks'. Not bad really for a few days of sightseeing. We camped at Mardi Gras RV Park & Motel in a Fifth Wheel.

Rippling Waters Church Of God Campground, Romance, West Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2008 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Very ice park. Location is a bit remote but easily accessed. Very peaceful location and atmosphere. Closest park I found to Charleston. I had a meeting in Charleston, and it is about 20 minute drive. Park was not completely operational on our visit, but it was early in the spring. It is located at a church camp and would be really nice in the summer months. Would stay again if in the area. We camped at Rippling Waters Church Of God Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Shell Lake Campground, Heth, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2008 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

It is an old KOA that needs a lot of work. Had to look around for a site that had working water connection. Lots of low hanging tree branches. The sign on the office building states that it is under renovation, but I saw no work being done. You have to register at the nearby Motel. Right next to a TA truck stop and I-40 so it is very noisy. Worked for an in and out overnight but that is about all. We camped at Shell Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Mayberry Campground, Mount Airy, North Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2008 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Extremely nice park. It is still under construction, but the finished work is superb. Very nice grass areas at each space. Level. graveled pull through space. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They have big plans for the park, and will be resort quality when it is completed. Great destination park as well as overnight. Close to many state parks and the Blue Ridge Parkway. If ever back in the area we will definitely stay again. We camped at Mayberry Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
